Yeah he was on spaghetti legs, but he had his hands up and beat the count. I would have given him a shot at defending himself. Then again, the ref was right there and I wasn't. As for the count, it looked like he was going down after the straight right, but got caught in the ropes. Then Haye got right in his chest kinda preventing him from going down.
There is NO WAY the ref could have let that fight continue, Enzo was all over the place
IMO you let a Champion who beats the count, has his gloves up, and wants to continue, fight. If he obviously can't defend himself, then you step in and waive it off.
:usa:  Stop acting like pussys two warriors got in the ring and one Genghis Khan'd the fuck outta the other one.
Ref let it go on for a bit unlike those pansy yanks that would ave jumped in straight away screaming STOP TEH VIOLENCE!!!!11111
Add a "Roy was a HW champ, but the fact he never defended and won when there was a consensus undisputed HW champ takes away from this accomplishment" option and I'll vote for that.
I think Wlad and Vitali both have been cautious fighters. Almost every fight I've seen against elite comp. they come out pawing the jab, trying not to make mistakes. I don't think not wanting to scare away other belt holders is the reason although it very well may be. IMO Wlad thinks his beard isn't the best and fights very cautious because he knows he can use his superior reach and outpoint most guys.
He points out the most obvious things that make you say...well DUH! Or...No shit. He can't speak properly without going cold half the time. Last night he couldn't say the word athletism. I mean shit, this man has no commentating skills at all. Obviously because he was world champ they let him commentate, but they gotta rethink it. I prefer Foreman 10x over this guy. Foreman at least was lively, funny at times, and said rediculous things that sometimes you had to think about for a second or 2. It made him seem smart even if he wasn't all there. Lennox on the other hand is a waste of a commentating chair. Bring back Roy! Now I realize just how damn good he was at commentating.
No offense, but learn to spell athleticism before criticizing someone's pronunciation of the word.
Edit: silencers98's sig pic is The Greatest.
wow, it seems everyone is a David Haye expert all of a sudden. and when I was boosting him not even 2 months ago, everyone was saying how garbage he is and he won't be as good as a heavyweight when I kept insisting that he is a natural heavy and moves like nobody else at that weight. I guess everyone has now caught up with me. Everyone should feel free to ask me about any up n' comers and I will be happy to oblige with some info.
Ha, "not even 2 months ago" Haye was already a two belt champ and ranked #1 by every credible source. Hardly an up and comer.
I appreciate that.
No offense, but enough with the Merchant attacking a fan vid. It's been done to death around here, and I'm sure everyone's seen it at least once. On topic, Merchant is a solid commentator, and any fight I see without him just seems a little off.
Campbell over Diaz not on the list for upset of the year? I mean we're talking someone who most people had as top dog in the division beaten by a presumed washed up, unranked fighter.
My picks:
FOTY - Vasquez-Marquez
KOOTY - Miranda-Banks
UOTY - Campbell - Diaz
I just saw the newest Rocky the other day. Opinions? I thought when it wasn't gettin all relationshipy and actually focused on the fight game aspect it was pretty good. The utilization of the HBO crew and Tarver gave it a good realistic dimension. Also, during the intros they showed Rock's record and it said he lost like 20+ bouts. Didn't know Rock took so many defeats.
Edit: lol, post above me answered my last question.
If Haye comes to bang with that left low to dig body shots, he would get ktfo in early to mid rounds. If he fights smart, like he's capable of doing, and uses his superior boxing technique he could outpoint. There's always a chance that Peter connects with that one good shot no matter how much Haye uses his feet. Haye's beard, as we all know, is still up for debate.
"USS" Steve Cunningham? The guy's an undersized cruiserweight. He comes into fights at like 195 or less. I'd be surprised if he even has to cut for fights. Wlad is a solid 235-240. This would never happen and should not even be discussed.
2 to 1 says Vitali suffers an "injury" in camp and doesn't show. The guy's about as brittle as 2000 year old parchment paper. Why he wants to make a comeback when his bro is in the process of cleaning up the division is beyond me. Maybe he sees the sad state of the division and the success Wlad is having and thinks he can have a go at a title again...who knows?
I place him in the tail end of my top 10 (9 or 10). He's a prototypical heavyweight with great size and exceptional athleticism for that size. I think people underrate his chin. Yes he got knocked cold once and stopped another time, but he took the best shots from some powerful heavyweights and stayed up.
So did David Haye.:omfg:
Lol, Thompson a bum? Boxrec has him top 10 all-time for retired fighters at cruiser. Yeah, he was over the hill when they fought, but still nowhere near a bum. STFU with that.
Wlad is scheduled to face mandatories Thompson and Povetkin in his next 2 fights.
Tony Thompson - Tall southpaw, good jab, decent defense, throws lots of punches, seems to have a decent chin, he is the highest ranked American heavyweight right now, hasn't lost a fight in 8 years.
Alexander Povetkin - Tough, aggressive crowd pleasing fighter, good power, great workrate, solid chin, undefeated olympic gold medalist, legendary amatuer career.
I think Wlad stops both of them, but who will give Wlad the tougher, more difficult fight??
Who do you think Wlad won't stop? :nonono: I think Thompson because he probably realizes this is it for him. If he blows this shot that's it for him in terms of title contention. He's also got good physical tools. Povetkin, on the other hand, is in the early stages of his career, and a loss to the main man won't be a big deal at this point in his career.
That statement is just proof you don't know shit about DAvid Haye.
He spars with heavyweights, he's fought at heavyweight before. He has an amateur pedigree at heavyweight and he hits like a mule kicks.
Make no mistake he's the real deal. It's all about whether he gets caught regularly against slower fighters. Which he shouldnt
Heavyweight in ams is cruiser in pros. Super heavy is the am equivalent of pro heavyweight.
Pic looks photoshopped. Granted he looks bigger than previous fights in the 24/7 episodes, but in the pic his shoulders and arms look too disproportionate to his neck to be real. For a guy who trains his neck pretty much every session it's unlikely his shit got that disproportionate.
roy is not an idiot, contrary to popular belief... hes trained for 56 pro fights, he knows exactly what he needs to do to be prepared
I agree, just pointing out the fact that a lot of pro athletes, no matter what the sport, peak too soon. It happens to the experienced and novice.
Haven't seen this week's, but last week's lacked a little substance. I know they were just introducing the fighters to the casual and uninformed viewer, but I would've liked to see more training than their backgrounds. Looking forward to the replay later tonight, though. For those that have seen it: is it more substantive than the last one?
He favors restructuring various free trade agreements, so it might spell an end to cheap foreign boxing products. Other than that, I don't think the boxing industry is very high on his priority list. There are more serious matters at hand.
Lol at Roy making a beat with the speed bag. If the stamina is there this could be a very long night for Joe. Side note: I hope for Joe's sake he doesn't put both his hands down and sway his shoulders like in the video. One of the best defensive fighters out there in Toney found out the hard way that's not a good idea.
