Wlad is scheduled to face mandatories Thompson and Povetkin in his next 2 fights.
Tony Thompson - Tall southpaw, good jab, decent defense, throws lots of punches, seems to have a decent chin, he is the highest ranked American heavyweight right now, hasn't lost a fight in 8 years.
Alexander Povetkin - Tough, aggressive crowd pleasing fighter, good power, great workrate, solid chin, undefeated olympic gold medalist, legendary amatuer career.
I think Wlad stops both of them, but who do you think will give Wlad the tougher more difficult fight??
Povetkin gets hit too much, not a good thing against Wlad. Wlad has shown a bit of a weakness against southpaws, so I'd go with Thompson, who knows he might not get another shot.
Just watched Thompson on Youtube. Great description of him would be a 6 ft 5 inch Winky Wright. He fights just like Wright. He's pretty busy and I think he will give Wlad problems. He's very poised. High guard and a decent jab. Power is questionable...

Who do you think Wlad won't stop? :nonono: I think Thompson because he probably realizes this is it for him. If he blows this shot that's it for him in terms of title contention. He's also got good physical tools. Povetkin, on the other hand, is in the early stages of his career, and a loss to the main man won't be a big deal at this point in his career.
How many have actually see Thompson fight?? I can say, I havent, so I have no idea what the guy brings to the table. I have seen Povetkin. he's another smallish heavyweight who'll get KO'd within 6 or 7 rounds by Wlad.
Thompson will give him more trouble because of his awkwardness given that he is a southpaw and 6-5 240 lbs. I think it might be a replay of the Brock fight where Klitschko has trouble finding Thompson's face for about 3-4 rounds and then KO's him in the late rounds.
Povetkin will force Klitschko to fight early, which will lead to his early death sentence. He get's KO'd in 3-5 rounds. No head movement.
Good points made for both fighters. But I think Povetkin will give him more trouble (although I still think Wlad wins). His work rate seems pretty good for a heavyweight and that may frustrate Wlad for a couple of rounds or so.
Of course, having said that Povetkin's aggressiveness may also be his downfall as well and could lead to an early KO.

tony thompson gives wlad more trouble being an awckward southpaw with a tight defense. povetkin would play right into wlads hands with his come forward style and lack of defense
They are both very good fighters. Povetkin is better overall than Thompson, and would defeat more of the top 10 heavyweights...
But styles make fights, and I hate to say it because I like Povetkin a lot, but he's tailor made for Wlad.
Tony Thompson, because of his size and reach, solid defense (better than Povetkin) and awkward southpaw style will give Wlad the tougher fight. He's NOT tailor made for Wlad.
However, Povetkin would probably defeat Thompson, because of his aggressiveness, workrate and greater speed of hand and foot.
Exactly. Povetkin could beat Thompson and a number of other top ten HWs, but he's cannon fodder for Wlad. Thompson could turn out to be tricky.
I trust hitman, who claims this is Wlad's toughest fight since Peter
id have to suspect that there's the money issue. also the fight with ibragimov might have given them some confidence. but really who wants to wait? he's earned the fight on paper, and for every contender to fight for the title is a dream come true. you'd fight somebody else and then loose you can kiss your title shot goodbye.
look at guys like holyfield fighting for championship in their 12 pro fight. spinks barely developed as a pro, get the shot at ali with the gold medal. of course it doesnt always work out. it's a good idea to wait but no one thinks that way.
Obviously, his management wants the big payday but if Povetkin is smart, he'll take a couple of fights before fighting Wlad. His biggest flaw compliments Wlads biggest knockout weapon.
Povetkin has a lot of potential, getting knocked out so early in his career could be a permanent set back for him.
There are a few good young American heavyweights.
-Travis Walker. He might make an impact on the heavyweight division.
-Chris Arreola. Let's see how he does against Witherspoon in June.
-Eddie Chambers. Fast counterpuncher, sound boxing technique. it's a good list, even a guy ike Kevin Johnson might make the cut. But they are not proven. Once they start facing each other, and eleminate other proven guys (perhaps some older name opponents) they can have the claim. right now they are names, i like watching Arreola, but i know that dan goosen is moving him slow. Dan's only other BIG success was james toney, now he's taking it slow with younger prospects like Chris. chamber just lost to Povetkin, so we gotta see wat happens next. walker is big and strong but he fought a guy whom he shoulda knocked out in the first round. Fat George Garcia. and it was a close split decision win for him. an embarassing win
Depends if he can improve that flaw, I've always said that he should have a few more fights before facing Wlad to iron those flaws out but his management seems intent to put him in there with Wlad ASAP.

he was open to right hands from Chambers, i bet Povetkin would work on that. but i doubt he'll beat wlad.

Who do you think is the best American heavyweight??
that's an interesting question. but if i was to answer you truthfully than id say, aside from other title holders (and they hold that distinction because they own a piece of the title) nobody. There's a lot of up and coming Europeans but as far as Americans i cant think of any. but it shouldnt make a difference what nationality they are, as long as they have the credentials it makes them contenders. I dont see anything in Tony Thompson that would remotely suggest that he's the best, or that he's got a chance of going 12 rounds with Wlad
I think Thompson because of his style.
Povetkin is open to right hands, Wlad would make him pay for that. he was open to right hands from Chambers, i bet Povetkin would work on that. but i doubt he'll beat wlad.
im thinking it's hard not loosing for 8 years when fighting bums.......best american heavweight today????? Not even close
with that said, size wise might be somewhat problematic although could be another Ray Austin deal
experience wise Povetkin. eventhough he had less fights at least he fought quality opponents

But this might not make sense to some people, but Povetkin would defeat Thompson, because of his aggressiveness, workrate and greater speed of hand and foot. thompson may have a size of a modern heavyweight but he's a nobody. does HBO invite him to their network? No. Do you read about him in the Ring Magazine often? No. Do any of the names on his record remind you of anyone? No. and that's not to discredit Wlad's victory (notice how i already say victory, because basically the fight is won already, Thomspon will never defeat Wlad, they gonna get the result they wanted) im just looking straight into the facts. Thompson hasnt fought anybody, if you look at his record you'll see that majority of his opponents have more loses than wins.
