Does Roy deserve ANY credit for Winning the HW title?
Was he A former heavyweight champion?
NOBODY is saying he was THE heavyweight champion
Nobody is saying he was the UNDISPUTED champion...
But would you consider him a former HW champion?
I give Roy Jones credit for having the skill to beat John Ruiz and win an alphabet title....With that being said, John Ruiz was one of the worst heavyweight titleists ever and he is considered a joke in the boxing world....If Jones had fought a real top heavyweight like Wlad or Vitali he would've been knocked out cold or murdered....Jones has a terrible chin and he would've NEVER been successsful at heavyweight had he stayed there or started his career there.
NOT A FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!! Roy should get credit for decisively defeating a top 5 heavyweight. he should get credit for being a heavyweight titlist, but being a titlist doesn't make you a champion, it makes you a titlist, HUGE DIFFERENCE. Lennox Lewis was the undisputed champion, john Ruiz was a contender that Lewis didn't fight. I personally wanted jones to fight Lewis next, but lennox fought Vitali weeks later and the fight never materialized.
its a good thing that fight didnt materialize. lewis would have literally decapitated him

come Irish you cant be that dumb. Roy won the WBA HW Title. It is aa proven fact, so how is it that he was not a champ? go by facts not OPINION.
personally, I think there can be only one 'champ' at a time. and at that time, that person, without a doubt, was Lennox Lewis.
if you want to be technical, then you can say Roy was a 'champ', but not the champ.
In the end, it doesnt matter, because its all terminology when it gets down to it. what matters is 'who' that person beat and 'how' they won.
No, Roy was never a real heavyweight champ.
but...considering Roy came up from such lower weights to win a heavyweight 'title'...should mean a lot.
also, consider this...Roy Jones Jr., not at his natural weight at all, past his prime a bit, and at his first fight at a weight class above 175 lbs beat John Ruiz more impressively than the #2 Heavyweight at this moment, Ruslan Chagaev, did.
and also, the Ruiz that Roy fought may have been more 'prime' than the one Chagaev beat(If Ruiz ever had a prime), considering that the Ruiz Roy fought was coming off of a win over Kirk Johnson+went on to win against Rahman and Oquendo, while the Ruiz that Chagaev fought was coming off loses to James Toney and Andrew Golota.
just keep that in mind.
Add a "Roy was a HW champ, but the fact he never defended and won when there was a consensus undisputed HW champ takes away from this accomplishment" option and I'll vote for that.
if floyd gets credit for beating DLH and becoming a "Jr Middleweight Champ", then there should be no reason for Roy not to get credit.
BOOOOM Headshot. So flashy. End thread.
I wanted a poll... thats all
I personally didnt wanna discuss it in the first place... look at my first two pages of posts against moofo in his thread.. i didnt even wanna discuss it

Did you have to make another thread about this. All this is gonna do is carry over all the mutants from the other thread, having them post the same stuff they've already posted. This convo needs to be put to rest.
