I know it's a problem.. I'm one of those people that always assume that things don't just happen, there needs to be a reason....
Here is my explanation for Wlad's last night's outing.
We all know Wlad wants to unify the belts, with that said, that only leaves Chagaev as a the next step. (Brother Vitali is in line for the WBC and Wlad wants no part of it)
Chagaev is a similar in size to Ibragimov, also a Southpaw.. now think about it, if Wlad was to brutally dismantle Sultan, would Chagaev want any part of Wlad? I think not.. he will be trying to hold on to his dear belt harder than he does now and for as long as he can.
I think Wlad's better chances to unify with the WBA if Valuev wins the rematch.
So Wlad had to look scared, he had to look vulnerable, and he had to put his offence arsenal on hold and to look beatable. All that not to scare potential future match ups.
Thoughts?
Have I lot my mind by taking it too deep? :dunno: :lol1:
I can agree by the mid to late rounds Manny was all but begging Wlad to just take him out, but I dont think they were expecting the fight to be as easy as it was. Wlad isnt going to risk a knock out loss because he needs to unify and keep winning for a long time if he wants a legacy that can look past getting koed by some guys that should have never had a chance. Look at Lennox Lewis, he isnt remembered as the guy who got koed twice, he beat the shit out of the two guys who beat him and went on to dominate the division. I think Wlad has the same plan, and getting KOed by Sultan wouldnt help that.
I meant victory, was thinking of something else and just typed loss by mistake.
Judging from what Steward was telling him in the corner in the last few rounds, I doubt that theory is correct, in fact a spectacular knockout loss would have helped him with the public and could have pushed for further unification fights.

Its simple. Wlad didnt want to get hit with anything big cause he knew it was his only chance of losing, so he beat the piss out of Sultan with a strong jab and a few strong rights. He could have ended it if he had tried at any point, but he didnt want to take the chance. Manny said before the fight that Sultan was the best fighter Wlad had ever faced, so maybe they knew a reason to be careful. Wlad won every round outside of the first round and he will unify without many problems. He has 44 KO's in 53 fights. People shouldnt bitch about him be careful once in a while.
Ibragimov was knocked down by Ray Austin and Friday Ahunanya, slightly stunned by Holyfield.
Chagaev took punches from Virchis and Valuev without getting hurt.
sultan never looked shook to me at all against holyfield. I never saw the friday fight so cant comment on that and sultan was badly out of shape against austin as he took the fight on short notice and was a career high 232 lbs. I'd say he has a pretty damn good chin. fwiw I heard chageav was hurt late in the virchis fight. I dont know who's chin is better but both guys seem to take good shots
wow its kind of astonishing how far people will stretch to see the good in a fighter they love.... its hard to separate emotions from facts but the truth is that wlad is not as good as many here WANT to believe. Thats not hating on the guy, its just saying it how it is
well,,,he did just beat an undefeated olympic silver medalist (southpaw no less) easily with one hand. I'd say he must be pretty damn good. he can look horrible and still dominate a fight
I think Wlad and Vitali both have been cautious fighters. Almost every fight I've seen against elite comp. they come out pawing the jab, trying not to make mistakes. I don't think not wanting to scare away other belt holders is the reason although it very well may be. IMO Wlad thinks his beard isn't the best and fights very cautious because he knows he can use his superior reach and outpoint most guys.
i didn't see a scared wladimir. i saw a very relaxed wladimir who intended to coast.
why?
well, i have a theory. remember before the fight, the talk about the rivalry between russian and ukrainians?
watch any of the extra coverage that is on youtube about this particular rivalry.
it might seem very reasonable that both wanted to make sure nobody lost "face".
think about it, and the connections klitschko has with both ukrainians and russians.
either way, he murders his next opponent. manny did not like that wk chose to let sultan off that easy. that's why, i don't see it as far out that there could be something more we don't know about.
I would not call Wlad's victory a "great win" by any stretch of the imagination.
Winning great and a great win are not the same thing.
Any win over the single best opposition in the division is great.

A little ironic that this post is coming from "Duran is God."
See, I'm sorry that people would get this impression..
What I see in Wladimir is a great athlete with ability, speed, power.. Everything a top fighter needs. His mental stuff is the problem.
Physically he's a fantastic specimen. When he was throwing and going after Sultan he was running right over him - and Sultan Ibragimov is an excellent heavyweight despite how easy Klitchsko made it look.
It's still a great win for a damn good heavyweight.

Just like in the Brewster fight, Wlad was poisoned by the bigots.
(smilie)
I think its more that Wlad just isnt that good. (comparitivly to other heavyweights in history)
The fact that there are conspiricy's behind each of his losses is sad.
Basiclly, he put on a shitty performance, but to consider that he did so on purpose is just nuts.

i have the same kind of conspiracy theory about the first MAyweather/DLH fight......i thought mayweather intentionally kept the fight close and let DLH win some early rounds just so they could justify a rematch and a safe payday for each other down the line. My conspiracy theory even goes as far as to believe the judge who gave the fight to DLH was given a nice little chunk of change to score the fight in oscars favor.
All very possible...
there is lot of undisclosed negotiations taking place and under the table deals that we don't know about.
That DLH/Sturm --> DLH/Hopkins --> Hopkins making partner had "all planed" written all over it

Wow it's kind of ashtonishing how far people will stretch the bad in a fighter they hate.. It's hard to sperate emotions facts but the truth is Wlad is not as Shit as some people WANT to believe.. that's not nuthugging on the guy.. It's just saying how it is..
wow did you think that up all by yourself?
listen up. I'm not saying wlad is shit, far from it. He's a solid fighter with some excellent attributes. But the amount of excuses for wlad over the years is becoming ridiculous. Name me one elite fighter that wlad has beaten which leads anyone here to think he could live with any of the top 10 ATG heavyweights as has been suggested by numerous guys on this site? Hell, if your struggling to figure out ibragimov and you rarely throw a combination for fear of being hit then you have limitations
Talk about grasping for straws. Look how vehemently Wlad was talking about "not having any bouts going 12 rounds anymore" Ib was a difficult opponent for him to figure out, plain and simple.
