Why the hell did you write all that?
You have to stay off Twitter. 150 character is not enough!
Also, answering to every excuse made up to diminish Lucas victory.
First of all, it wasn't only Peterson's choice to deviate from his plan. Lucas started to rough him up in the inside and by Peterson's own admission, he got carried away. Even so if he got carried away Lucas started to close the gap in the second round and get aggressive. Meaning that even if Peterson would have tried to continue to box he was eventually starting to get tagged. Don't forget that by the end of the first round when Peterson was boxing from the outside Lucas connected with a left and a right.
Secondly, Steve Smoger gave Peterson two chances to recover and in those two chances after giving Peterson the count he pushed Lucas back giving Peterson a little bit extra time. I have to add that in the second kd Peterson fell over trying to get up. Many referees would have stopped it right there, yet Smoger continued to count and once Peterson got up, took a good look at him, gave him two more seconds before pushing Lucas back again. Also, not only Smoger gave Peterson a break but did anyone notice that the bell between the second and the third round took a bit longer than usual after the rest had expired. In all Peterson was given big breaks to recover and couldn't withstand Lucas pressure.
Finally, Lucas has more than proofed that he is in the top 3 in 140. As of right now the only fighters I'd would rank above Lucas at 140 would be Juan Manuel Marquez or Pacquaio. Besides them, I don't see no other fighter with the tools to take him out or at least take a decision. And please do not mention Broner, it seems he wants no part in the 140 mix.
I rate GGG slightly higher than Matthysse. PFP is just personal opinion not fact. My opinion is PFP GGG is the best fighter in the world and that includes Mayweather and Ward. I think he could drop to 154 and KO Mayweather and go up to 168 and KO Ward.I am sure Mayweather will never agree to fight GGG at 154 since he would go no higher than 152 for Canelo. Ward might fight GGG. GGG had an easy time beating the Macklin, who gave Martinez hell and was robbed in his fight with Strum. Martinez's promoter as much as said Martinez won't fight GGG. Lucas is a great fighter and I think he can beat any 140 pounder in the world. I think GGG hits just as hard for his weight class as Lucas and has better boxing skills. As far as resume goes it's hard for GGG to build his up when so few top fighters will agree to fight him. I am not trying to talk anybody into agreeing with me on GGG.I am just replying to the thread.
Wao that's a bold statement. I'm still not sold completely on GGG as being a world beater. He is IMO on the verge of being the best middleweight. Yet, I still have doubts. GGG hasn't been tested enough to see what's he made of. His chin hasn't been tested and neither his stamina. Until these two questions are not answered I can't say he could take over 168.
Ward is a boxing animal, he neutralizes any boxer's strength an makes them fight his fight. At this stage GGG will be taken to school until proven otherwise.
As for Matthysse, those questions have been answered. He was fared well against slick boxers, has great stamina and an iron chin. To beat Matthysse it will take more than athleticism, speed and agility. He's gotten a lot better after his two controversial loses which makes him even more dangerous. Right now I would say Matthysse has the upper edge. I hope GGG gets Martinez, Geale, Chavez and Quillin (Don't see this one happening). If he goes through some of these fighters like he's done until now. Then we are talking about a P4P candidate and a superstar in the making.
Some people tend to oversee Mayweather's intelligence. Floyd knows how to play the game, pure boxing skills alone haven't made him the P4P king. Floyd is as opportunistic as a fox. He has chosen his battles wisely, he makes a move when needed (DLH, Hatton, Cotto, Mosley), avoids temptations or plays out of them swiftly (i.e Pacquiao, Prime Cotto, Prime Williams).
The only time Floyd took a risk he almost lost (Castillo) Top Ranks fault. After that, Floyd learned his lesson. The Canelo Alvarez fight is nothing different. Canelo been looking forward to Floyd for a while like many other fighters have done so. As Canelo was steam rolling class C competition and over the hill champs, Floyd had no interest. (You never know how good Canelo may be). That's until he fought his first real test in Ausin Trout. Many of us know that Canelo didn't look to good besides his power. He presented stamina issues, could be outboxed in spurts and doesn't have a good defense down the stretch of the fight.
That being said, the fight is a no brainier for Floyd. Canelo is a young rising star, who could only get better or maybe lose if matched incorrectly. Still he has developed a strong fan base, could bring in numbers (specially in a Mexican holiday) and is not yet the threat GBP has made him to be. If Floyd had left this opportunity pass by he could have risked Canelo getting better or losing.
In the end, Floyd played his cards well once again and has already won.
There are barely any Floyd fans on NSB. The majority are Floyd haters, Pac loyalists, Matthyse cheerleaders and a handful of objective thinkers. This thread like many others was created to provoke Floyd fans that don't even exist.
You guys don't even realize you're debating and hating amongst yourselves.
Objective boxing fans realize Margarito isn't fit to carry Mayweathers spit bucket, yet the majority of the tired posters here will drone on about Prime Margarito.
You guys sound like a bunch of abused house wives.
"Floyd didn't fight prime Margarito. Waaaaaaaah *sniffle* Floyd ducked Pac. Floyd is a cherry picker. Floyd said this and Floyd said that! Waaaaaahhhhh"
You guys need rehab. Floyd has ruined you and robbed u of testosterone.
And you consider yourself one of those so called few objective thinkers?
The fans have spoken. This is like the new xbox one and all their crap policies no one want, everyone ****ted on Microsoft and they were forced to remove the crappy policies. Same thing here.
I wish that were true. That the fans would pressure Promoters into making big fights but I don't believe this fight was made because of the backlash it would have created.
GBP and TR do whatever they want, and pour in money to try and change the common fans perspective.
Meanwhile fighters like Martinez, Williams (during his time), GGG, Matthysse, Rigo among other had to earn there spot the hard way. And still, big name fighters avoid to fight or unify with them.
For example Sergio, was completely avoided at 154 being rank #1 by the WBC for two years, and had to fight another avoided fighter in Paul Williams to earn some recognition. Eventually had to go up to 160 because nobody would have ever faced him in his natural weight class.
Matthysse has been hanging around 140 for a while and had to face two controversial loses, ko WBC poster child Humberto Soto and fight undefeated Ajose, while Morales and Garcia would get free passes to the title.
We the fans are sometimes are made to think we push for fights but in the end it's the promoters or even the fighters calling the shots.
Garcia v. Matthysse was going to be done regardless of the backlash. Schaefer was elated with Lucas victory over Peterson going as far as calling him the next Manny Pacquiao. Danny's stock fell against Judah and if he ends up losing, there's still Lamont Peterson in the picture. GBP are still in a win win situation.
Mayweather beating Mosley did far more than beating Margarito would've.
The significance of the fight would depend on what stage of Mosley's or Margarito's career the fight would've taken place.
If Floyd would've taken a prime Margarito back in 2006 instead of Baldomir, I would say that victory would have carry more significance than Shane Mosley in 2010.
Al Haymon or GBP are not going to risk Broner to any fighter on the list or even the ones I left out like Pac and Abregu. The are going to milk him and create a troll army behind him saying that no fighter from 140 to 147 deserve to fight Adrien Broner. Does it reminds you of another cherry picker???
Haymon and it's not even close... Everybody knows both are dirty yet Arum is the only hated one... Pauli has been the only person I heard call Haynon out...
Max Kellerman also called out Al Haymon, not like Pauli but said that Haymon hand picks his fighters careers. I can't criticize Haymon for doing so, because almost every champion or contender in a way or another has been protected to a certain point.
The problem starts when a fighter becomes a champion and keeps fighting bogus contenders without facing a top contender or unifying. The other problem is when a boxer is hyped as a superstar without facing tough opposition, due to the fact that the fighter has either unified or jump weight classes winning multiple titles against paper champions.
Now, Haymon will start to become a problem to the sport, when lets say a fighter like Broner, who is destined to become the "new face of boxing" according to the hype surrounding him, won't be put to a real threat in a couple of years.
So lets sit back and see how Haymon will manage the 140-147 situation he now has.
I certainly can't understand why would Jim Gray be bothered or any other person from Showtime by Paulie's comments.
Jim Gray came back with the stupidest comment by saying that bad judging is part of the sport, and even if Gray said the truth which Paulie acknowledged. It was stupid because Gray's intent was that Paulie shouldn't complain.
The fact is that Paulie wasn't complaining about the lost, because he acknowledged that it was a close fight. What Paulie wasn't happy with was the 117-111. Because even if he would have actually won the fight, there was a judge that wasn't going to see the fight in his favor.
Any fighter has a right to question a call if he thinks he did enough to win or the scores don't reflect what really happened. Jim Gray was just being Jim Gray and we all know what this guy is.
In the end, Showtime won't pull the plug on Paulie, they need the insight of somebody who dares to call it like it is. HBO had Merchant and now Max (at least sometimes calling it real) and ESPN has Atlas.
105-103, 104-104, 105-103, what were these judges thinking!!! If Soto Karass wouldn't have stopped Berto we could have possibly seen a potential draw. Berto was unbelievably one round away from taking a controversial draw if the round was scored in his favor.
Roy said in an interview at his training camp yestserday that if they pay him 30 million he will beat Vitali
Hey if they pay me half of that I'll also get in the ring with Vitali.
Roy should learn form D.L.H and retire, for the good of boxing and his health.
Yea right... skillwise one of the greatest, fighting the best posible opponets not so great... up until 135 he fought the best after that he had other plans, try sell out mismatch fights as if they posed a real challenge.
We could assume becuase of his skills that he would have beaten any challenge awaiting at 147 but that would be just assuming. In the end he just convinced a few fans thats why he was so widely critizied, too bad his ego did not let him realize that he could have made history.
say what you want but Top Rank does put Cotto in big fights for the most part. I think Arum just sees the potential mainstream crossover with Foreman being jewish and a rabbi in training.. E60 did a report on him and even Good Morning America brought it up....
Very true, Arum saw a lot of potential in making money off Yuri Foreman, being a Jew plus the story behind him, unfortunately for Arum, things didn't turn out his way, I believe Arum thought Cotto was damaged goods after Pacquaio and Margarito and he paid the price in not believing in his fighter.
Cotto put on a brilliant display of boxing and looked very good, he may not be as good as he used too but it doesn’t mean he can’t compete at the same level. Cotto has a good shot at any champion with the exception of Martinez.
It would be interesting to see what Cotto is going to do next.
I believe Cotto has a better chance of beating Williams than Martinez, Paul has very shaky defense, he’s prone to get cut, he tends to get sloppy, in all he has to many holes that would make him a target, Martinez on the other hand has the stamina, chin, punch and legs to keep Cotto of him and to take whatever Cotto has.
