Duddy has taken beatings from some seriously limited fighters, even though he won. He also won a controversial decision against Yori Boy, who was pretty significantly over the hill when they fought. Duddy isn't a terrible fighter, but he's a B level guy. This is great match making from Arum. If you look how he puts his fights together and builds his guys up to sacrifice him to his other guys, you'll see how good he really is at it. Expect Yuri Foreman to get some nice wins against limited guys to build him up and then be sacrificed to either Manny or Amir Khan. Chavez Jr will probably be sacrificed at some point. Cotto is on the sacrifice list. Right now he's just being built up again. Margarito is the same. Arum is building him up to tear him down. Arum doesn't like his guys fighting outside his own stable, because it messes with his vision.
Not saying this is a bad win, but people have to keep it in perspective. If I see Chavez jr in any P4P lists, or listed as one of the top guys in his divison, I'll shake my head. I expect Dan Rafael to really overreact to the win and say Chavez Jr is in the top 5 at 160.
Good post!!!!!! I agree with your assesment of the Arum strategy. Green is on it's way. :boxing:
^^^^ Exactly.
I did not even pick a winner for this fight. It was a toss up in my eyes. Now peole acting like they "expected" JCC to go crazy on Duddy like he did. I sure as hell didnt.
I was thinking the same thing about the Match Making.
Duddy and Chavez are like mirror images of each other in terms of talent and style.
It was good showing by Chavez, but I think that's as good as he's gonna get. I can't imagine him fighting like that with any of the bigger names in the sport and being successful. But Jr always new how to fight for the most part, which is why I never understood why people would dismiss him as fast as they did. A little polish never hurt anyone, or anything for that matter and that's what he got being in a legitimate training camp for this fight.
But you could tell just from the fact that he couldn't really pull the trigger to finish Duddy when he had the chances that he's just not on that other level. He can turn over a decent punch though. He's always been able to.
I 100% agree with the bolded. But as far as finishing Duddy off, it'll be something that he can learn to do. In finishing off it's all about what punches you put together, and he still needs to learn which ones to put together for what situation. It was quite an improvement IMHO, being that he only had 5 weeks with his camp; but lets not discredit Duddy who is known to take a damn good punch, and has the heart of a true warrior. The over hand rights he took where hellacious. :boxing:

Man dont you hate after every PPV when we see a fight, the fighter that wins always seem to be able to beat the other Elite fighters.
Martinez would blow Chavez out the door
Williams Ko him
Cotto will bring him to school and show him how its done!
Margarito well thats the only good fight i see out there for Chavez
So you cant give him credit for anything? He brutally beat the guy and looked great.
Its obvioius you just dont like him because that was a great fight and not 1 person that bought the PPV was disappointed.
These are the kind of fights people pay to see and it was great
He prob likes the clinch and run fights i bet!
His best challenge to date is not much better than his usual challenges.
Thats my point. People getting their panties wet over a mirage win.
He is what he is.

all i can say is the better man won well on the night.. best of luck to chavez jr but i dont think hes ready for cotto!!! and thats for duddy, that guy makes me proud to be irish...
Yeah Duddy fought his heart out. Yall got nothing to be ashamed of.

Sad, just sad! Kind of like Drogba!:bottle::bottle:

I wouldn't say he beats Cotto at 154, Cotto is on another level. I guess you hate Jr, dont know what it is but the kid looked much better. The moment he threw the left hook, turned on it and landed the right hand is something I have never seen Jr. do. His footwork was much better, Roach has this kid much improved and motivated and that sometimes is the hardest thing to do.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And his consistancy was another improvement as well. JCCjr looked pretty good tonight. But John Duddy has moved up a notch on my highly respected fighters list.
Jack come on bro....
I was caling Chavez an utter um no more than a week ago tonight he looked like a diffrent man vs. his best challenege to date.
I didnt even bet on this fight because I had no idea who would win.
He looked really good IMO, you have to give him credit for what he did in one of the most Brutal 12 rounds in recent memory.
People think hes gonna go from mediocre to elite in one fight but it doesnt work that way
He improved a whole lot and could be good if he keeps getting better

Bob Arum, as much as I hate him and think he's a worthless piece of shit, is the greatest match maker in the sport. He knows how to build up his fighters

It just goes to show you didn't know much about Duddy. Or you chose to ignore it.
He's just in better shape, otherwise he looked like always just that people think Duddy's better than his usual fare of journeymen.
Having said that, I do think he murks Cotto at 54'. Cotto is ripe for the picking against someone like Chavez.
