Rigo beat a top 5 P4P bigger than him, and beat him easy, and when it appears that his career began to take force. not given more importance and there is not rumors of another fight. I love this sport, but it's a shame that he only important boxers who have marketing, and those who do not have them but they have talent, take them out of the way to protect those who have market.
With Rigo went wrong, went wrong with them, and now are not going to give good fights
I was disappointed to hear that Donaire got the Darchinyan rematch. I thought that was a fight that really should have went to Rigo. Rigo would have beaten him, but it's more exposure against a veteran fighter. Now it doesn't seem like he has much options with Top Rank.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying, it is a shame that fighters of "unmarketable" nationality don't get the red carpet treatment that a lot of other fighters do, but you know what?
Fighting on the backfoot and pot-shotting for 12 rounds isn't going to make a fighter a star in professional boxing, and it shouldn't. Professional prizefighting is about pleasing paying customers who want to see exciting fighters between guys competing at a high skill level. The ONLY REASON these fighters have careers and make money is for our entertainment.
Look at Sergio Martinez. Look at Gennady Golovkin. Look at Manny Pacquiao. These guys all had just as many roadblocks to stardom in America, but here they are; all flagship names on HBO these days. They did it with nothing but great performances that made the casual fan take notice. They went to war, they earned their every single ****ing fan they have.
If guys want to fight with that perfect, defense-first amateur style and become champions, great for them, but if they are not providing serious excitement in one way or another the fans are not obligated to pay to see it, and are not any less fans for it. If you want to see that stuff, you can always tune into the Olympics.
I don't have a dog in the nationality fight, I don't have anything against anyone, I ****ing like Rigo and wish him the best, but as a fight fan I have got to keep it real.
Rigo is going nowhere fast
he's the legit world champ of his division and can beat everyone there
but nobody is gonna want to fight him, despite him having the title
and his promoter admitted he has no way of boosting him up
his style works but doesn't thrill, so there's no money in Rigo
Rigo will waste away beating so so guys, not getting chances to shine
Such tragic news...

Donaire got that offer because he can sell tickets. Sad to say, but Rigo cant sell out an Elks Lodge........
Don't know if that was even a serious offer by Schaefer or just a bluff to annoy Arum. Schaefer's boy Mares hasn't even reached the $500K mark. He got $300K, more or less, in the recent Mayweather undercards, from what I read. I have no clue why he can't sell Mares, who can't be considered a boring dude.

I've read comments like this many times. It's no secret Rigondeaux isn't a big star, nor is he likely to ever be one; but I don't think he can't sell tickets, at least not if he's working with a good undercard. You put "El Chacal" on a card in Miami with a few other Cubans, and a good number of tickets will sell. I was at Radio City show, and I can assure you, not everyone was there to see Nonito.
I would like to see rigo vs mares.
Golden Boy was offering Donaire three million for fight against Mares, I do not think even offer Rigondeaux the fight. Mares in ten had a chance to beat Nonito. And I see the same with Rigo, but with the difference that if Rigo beats would not make so much noise
Schafer should give him the same $3 million offer he offered to Donaire to fight Mares.

I think this may turn into a Klit bros. situation where the champ/s are well above their division in terms of class, only difference is that the bros are heavyweight so their is always cash in that division.
Well, sitting on your arse and waiting for your promoter to throw a bone in your direction isn't going to help. There's no reason why he can't stay active and keep fighting, even if they money isn't great and they're not the very best fighters in the division. If you have to fight on ESPN just to keep your name out there, so be it.
...as a student and amateur of the sport I can't get enough of Rigo, and while I love fighters like Margarito and Maidana who come forward with pressure, how, seriously, how can anyone not enjoy slips and feints moving in and out and using almost perfect footwork? How can you act like the science of the sport is boring?
...I know how the business works. That's got nothing to do with someone failing to admire a high level of boxing skill and talent, only because said fighter doesn't go in for blind exchanges and get tagged. I work hours on defense, the name of the game is hit and don't be hit.
It's been a real pleasure reading your last couple of posts, man. I feel exactly the way you do. In every sport, there are practitioners that emphasize offense over defense, and vice-versa. Sometimes you get someone who seems equally adept at both. In any case, real aficionados appreciate the differences in approach. We all have our preferences, but I can never understand how someone can call themselves a fan and not at least accept the pure aspect of a given sport.
Guillermo Rigondeaux is a pure boxer, a craftsman. If you love boxing, you have to at least appreciate "El Chacal's" amazing skills and talent. Not your cup of tea? That's fine. But don't tell me filet mignon stinks, just because you prefer hamburger. That tells me a little something about your level of understanding.
Green K, brother.
Donaire himself never had the style casuals prefer watching. He knew it. You could tell he's been trying to be more entertaining in his last 2-4 fights. But he will never become a PPV attraction. There's no DLH in his division to take him there. Give him guys like Rigo... you get zzzzzzzzzzz.... Boxing is not charity to entertain streamers.
Rigo got blackballed after beating Donaire. Top Rank the leader of recycling fights for some odd reason doesn't want to make another Rigo-Donaire fight.
Rigo needs a fight by the end of the year. He can't be in the shelf for too long
Boxing is business. It takes hundreds of dollars and thousands of man hours just to fund and organize a small fight. Investors had to make money. Otherwise, no one would be crazy enough to organize another. If you are a hardcore fan and want to see more of such fighters, then do something about it. Raise money. Pay more than the casual fans pay. Promote such fights. Sell tickets. Anything to help the people organizing and funding such events. Point is, GET REAL.
That would be a good thing to say to me if you knew me and I wasn't already active, but I am. :) I promote boxing and what is truly remarkable about the sport wherever I go, go to my friends pro fights, and would do anything for my trainer and team. I know how the business works. That's got nothing to do with someone failing to admire a high level of boxing skill and talent, only because said fighter doesn't go in for blind exchanges and get tagged. What? Are you really trying to say Rigo is one dimensional and peddaling backward during his fights? :lol1: I am actually speechless. What do you like about boxing? What kind of a fan are you? Serious question. Anyone who can't appreciate actual boxing prowess and skill in any form I have to wonder if they are fans of the sport, or casual fans who only want blood and senseless knockouts. Why do I ask? Because if you are the latter, I am wasting my time. If you aren't then I would love to know what makes Rigo so uninteresting or unmarketable, as a student and amateur of the sport I can't get enough of Rigo, and while I love fighters like Margarito and Maidana who come forward with pressure, how, seriously, how can anyone not enjoy slips and feints moving in and out and using almost perfect footwork? How can you act like the science of the sport is boring? That's what brought me and many others to the sport in the first place.

He likely ends up like Andre Ward...TOO GOOD FOR HIS OWN DIVISION that people will use that "HE IS BORING" excuse as a reason not to fight him like Donaire was trying to do
He don't have anybody else to fight to be honest especially since Top Rank is not going to do any business with GBP, so at the moment Rigondeaux vs Mares, Moreno or Santa Cruz is never going to happen
So like Ward he will end up kinda just stuck at the top of his division with no serious challengers and he may have to travel just to get good pay days and some competition
Harsh but somewhat I can agree...
Its hard to sell your stock If you want to be a PPV fighter which I don't think Rigondeaux ever will be, he doesn't have the style to sell.
The way he fights is gruelling and I can imagine taking alot of steam out of him because he works very hard but people 9/10 times are going to favour someone being able to mix it up in offence and defence, not the best watch when someone is on the backfoot the entire fight.
Stand your ground once in awhile, I'm not saying walk onto shot but at the very least you shouldn't have to take 5/10second spells of dancing around the ring with inactivity nobody wants to see that, that is time wasting in its own right.

stop kidding yourself, he still fights like an amateur. he definitely has power and can knock guys out, but man does he take awhile to initiate some kind of action. And when he does, its mostly pot shots and range finder jabs. Boxing purist can appreciate his counter punching style but not to the casual fan.
With his speed, power, and experience, he could be that whole package of offensive and defensive mastery. Man, i wish roach would've gave him more attention before he left as he definietly wouldve helped in his offense.
His style and his quiet personality, i feel, is whats keeping him from being a big draw.
