I thought it was BS that Karass was going to get robbed on the cards, and lost the "KO of The Night" Bonus, which went to ANOTHER Al haymond fighter.
Thurman's Ko was good, but that left hook Karass landed was a beauty, especially after all the drama that was going on.
Its insane how Karass was about to get robbed. Giving the KO of the night to Thurman, who won but really, it wasnt on the same league as Karas 12 round KO, just shows how corrupt boxing is.
Its just insane that some boxers can only win if they KO their opponent, while others build their entire career on decisions, many of which they dont deserve!

Going in, with Soto-Karass's high punch rate, I was thinking, "Just get past the 4th or 5th, don't run into something stupid before then and you have it."
If not for the headbutt cut, Zaveck would have beaten Berto.
I had the same line of thinking, that said, I knew Berto wouldn't knock him out early, he has power but it's decent power at best. He doesn't have concussive power.
Agreed entirely on Zaveck, Zaveck was on his way to beating Berto.
Any time Berto fights someone average or better he either loses or struggles badly - Quintana, Collazo, Ortiz, Guererro, Zaveck, Karass - I felt he lost to Collazo and he obviously lost to Ortiz, Guererro and Karass and like we just said, he was on his way to losing to Zaveck and despite stopping Quintana it was frankly an awful perfomance.
I suppose Urango is decent and he didn't realy struggle in that fight. That's about it though.
Any thing Freddy Hernandez level or less than he's outstanding.
Anybody else think that was a lowblow Karass was hit with and given a count for? The count seemed fast as well - I was thinking ''here we go!'' but Karass leaped up like a G and it added fuel to the fire.
I wouldn't mind seeing Karass rematch Maidana, I felt that stoppage was a tad premature.
It was borderline. That area where no matter what was called, you can't really disagree with it.
The Maidana stoppage was slightly early, but I didn't have a problem with it. A rematch would be fun, of course.
What did we say?
I had absoloutely no doubt in my mind that Karass would at the very least give Berto a lot of trouble.
And like we said, not surprised at all If he beats him.

Any good boxer can hurt Maidana, Matthysse, Chaves, and Martinez to the body. You have to be able to follow up though. These guys are notorious for letting their opponent visibly see that they were hurt by body shots. Nobody has followed up on these guys. Someone will.

Karass is not given the props he deserves. I saw a much improved Soto, he gave angles, had a better defense on the outside and inside, good selection of punches.
His Trainer needs to get recognition, i don't think Karass would've made it without him, and thats the truth.
Are you ****ing serious? It's not hard to look better against a 1 armed fighter. A 1 armed Berto still made it a competitive fight.
Berto should try to train to have a leaner body instead of constantly beefing up like he's ready for a bodybuilding contest.
My thoughts exactly. I think he might have better luck at the lower weights without all that bulk on his frame.
.
Just watched the fight, and as expected Berto got sent to Bondye. Karma for cheating.
I had Berto winning 1 round and they had it a draw at the time of the stoppage? What a joke these handpicked Haymon judges are.
I got you man basically he said he didn't knock me down he hit me in the balls and that pissed me off my corner told me to box him in the 12th round but I said no I'm going to f**k him up

Being brutally honest, I don't think he's improved at all, it just depends on the style he's facing as to how he looks. Against good boxer-type fighters like Alfonso Gomez, Yuri Foreman, etc, Soto-Karass struggles because the movement and technique gap is too wide for him to overcome. However, he can give any other style a pretty rough night, and Berto is just a brawler with some speed that fights in a stupid manner(though he does have heart), so him having more "talent" than Soto-Karass didn't matter.
But why do Berto's punches have no effect on his opponents.
Sure he's very explosive and his punches look good. But he's not Lucas Mathysse'ing dudes.
The last guy he stopped I believe was Quintana. and that was one of those fights where Quintana was out on his feet but never went down.
Also, head movement. Berto has zero head movement. He just stands with this mano y mano thing. At least Tyson moved his head when he exploded. Berto explodes, but his has no effect.
Regarding his calves, they don't match his body. I would think his thighs are the same way. Maybe that's good for his weight, but he actually has the upper body of a JMW and the legs of a JWW, similar to Mathysse's
Karass was buzzed a few times. Ortiz and Guerrero also have sturdy chins. This is more a testament to his last opponents than anything else. He hits hard and is explosive he's just inconsistant. He throws a one two and admires his work then get hurt.
And of course he'a not Matthysse'ing dudes lol. Lucas has that freaky power that comes from lord knows where, same with GGG (small legs coincidentally).
Berto IS top heavy and you'd think he'd have an Evander esque chin by looking at how compact his body is but he doesnt. He's more like Yuriorkis Gamboa (who is fighting above where he shoul be so is really muscular because of it but even at 126 he had that type of physique). Yuriorkis does have destructive power though at 26...
Berto just plain and simple doesnt have the chin or skills. He's just not that good and only got by with soft touches where he could overwhelm them with his physical gifts.
Tyson had trunks for legs also. Not like David Tua or anything but yeah.
Berto seems like the kind of guy who will get fat for some reason...
And is it just me or does his dad look like Sam Peter!?!? Lol

Exactly. I think Berto would be good in MMA though. He'll be pretty good in the clinch game if he knew how to use his upper body strength like wrestlers. But for a boxer, being built like that with no leg muscles isn't good.
There's nothing wrong with his legs in comparison to most boxers.
If anything Berto for a guy with so much mass on him is kind of an anomaly. Many guys built that way tire out fast where Berto has never had questionable stamina. He also retains his power and is VERY fast where that's usually never the case for that physique. He also retains the ability to punch hard and be explosive pretty much throughout the fight. Physically Berto has a lot going for him..a lot. He's chinny though and has ZERO inside game or much of a defense. His new shoulder roll where he rolls INTO punches is really bad too lol
Most wrestlers I've known have really strong legs btw. >__>...
Also Berto is NOTHING like Shane's strength or physique. Shane was very powerful and a strong guy in the ring even at 154 he was never really man handled per se even against guys like Winky. That and an ATG esque chin. :/
