I think GGG is probably more unstoppable than Lucas Matthysse is, but there is no question Matthysse has a better resume. Matthysse is 34-2 (32 KOs) while Golovkin is 27-0 (24 KOs). Matthysse has wins over Lamont Peterson, Humberto Soto, Ajose Olusegun, Demarcus Corley, Mioke Dallas Jr and probably should have wins against Zab Judah and Devon Alexander but he got robbed. GGG has wins over Matt Macklin, Ishida, Rosado, Proska and Ouma.
Both guys are animals, KO machines, beasts, and produce highlight reel knockouts. I believe GGG is even better than Matthysse but Matthysse has a better resume, so the question is HYPOTHETICALLY if you had to and could only move one guy in top 10 P4P ratings who would it be?
Ps. We all know ring magazines ratings are a joke... no way should Broner and Alvarez be in there.
Both are exciting KO artists, but Matthysse has demolished top boxers.
People will realize how good he is when Peterson fights and beats his opponents in the fights to follow.
Macklin was ok, but he has lost his share of fights, and at 31 never won a world title. I'm not saying winning one means a lot, especially given how we know you can become a "world champ" in spite of being a mediocre fighter if you have the right connections, but never winning a world title in your entire career at 31 says something about you as a boxer.
Technically I think Lucas is a bit more polished, and I would agree with Chirs Byrd that Matthysse has the better one punch KO power.
Is this a real question? GGG is fighting tomato cans that HBO is using to make their next star since they have no Golden Boy fighters.
Dumb post. Golden Boy has one middleweight who would even be a viable matchup for Golovkin (Peter Quillin), that's not a bad fight at all but it'd be tough for me to say Quillin's done more at middleweight than Macklin or Martinez or Chavez or even Pirog. It's not like GGG has been ducking him or anything.
Anyway I voted Matthysse on resume, but GGG has the talent and if he gets a win over Froch or Martinez sometime soon my opinion might change. I wouldn't put either guy on my p4p yet but IMO Matthysse is one win away (Garcia) from getting there.
matthysee may turn out to be the greater of the two, his resume so far certainly is but technical skills wise which i equate with pound for pound, I think Triple G is a more polished overall product.
Lucas has the better resume no questions about that but I think GGG is more skilled imo.
This. and P4P is about resume not how good you are so the answer is Lucas but I expect GGG to be top 3 P4P in no time
I rate GGG slightly higher than Matthysse. PFP is just personal opinion not fact. My opinion is PFP GGG is the best fighter in the world and that includes Mayweather and Ward. I think he could drop to 154 and KO Mayweather and go up to 168 and KO Ward.I am sure Mayweather will never agree to fight GGG at 154 since he would go no higher than 152 for Canelo. Ward might fight GGG. GGG had an easy time beating the Macklin, who gave Martinez hell and was robbed in his fight with Strum. Martinez's promoter as much as said Martinez won't fight GGG. Lucas is a great fighter and I think he can beat any 140 pounder in the world. I think GGG hits just as hard for his weight class as Lucas and has better boxing skills. As far as resume goes it's hard for GGG to build his up when so few top fighters will agree to fight him. I am not trying to talk anybody into agreeing with me on GGG.I am just replying to the thread.
Wao that's a bold statement. I'm still not sold completely on GGG as being a world beater. He is IMO on the verge of being the best middleweight. Yet, I still have doubts. GGG hasn't been tested enough to see what's he made of. His chin hasn't been tested and neither his stamina. Until these two questions are not answered I can't say he could take over 168.
Ward is a boxing animal, he neutralizes any boxer's strength an makes them fight his fight. At this stage GGG will be taken to school until proven otherwise.
As for Matthysse, those questions have been answered. He was fared well against slick boxers, has great stamina and an iron chin. To beat Matthysse it will take more than athleticism, speed and agility. He's gotten a lot better after his two controversial loses which makes him even more dangerous. Right now I would say Matthysse has the upper edge. I hope GGG gets Martinez, Geale, Chavez and Quillin (Don't see this one happening). If he goes through some of these fighters like he's done until now. Then we are talking about a P4P candidate and a superstar in the making.
Great question! Both are in their dominating start of their primes. F'n hands of stones, but Matthyse has the big names on his. GGG is in a no-big named/no-money weight division sadly for him
