Golden Boy has an April 17 pay-per-view planned between Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard Hopkins and is holding May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for a card featuring Juan Manuel Marquez.
That would be a logical landing spot for a Mayweather-Mosley bout, if a deal can be made, though Schaefer was in the early stages of talks and couldn’t commit. He said he was going to meet with his staff to see when it would work best.
“I’m going to sit down with our marketing people, and our sponsors, as well, and determine what the right time frame would be to properly promote and activate that fight,” Schaefer said. “On the surface, with March 13 just around the corner, I don’t think that would be the right thing to do. If you’re going with a super mega fight like that to go against Pacquiao-Clottey. I think that would be totally wrong and I would not want to do that.”
Schaefer said “I have my work cut out for me in the next 24 hours” as he tries to finalize an agreement for a Mayweather-Mosley fight and then attempts to find a date.
He was sympathetic to Berto and said there would be an opportunity for him to fight Mosley either later in the year or sometime next year.
Set the fight for April 17th with Mosely-Mayweather being the main event, and Hopkins-Jones as one of the undercard fights. That would be a huge event, and a big PPV seller.
i think mayweather and mosley would sell more...floyd and mosley together just sounds like a bigger event than pacquiao - clottey
i want some intelligent points not biased nuthuggin arguments plz!
There both good fights, but I would probably have to go with Mayweather-Mosley. Pacquiao just doesn't have the right dance partner to really compete with a Mayweather-Mosley bout. It's Basically Pacquiao by himself against Floyd and Shane. Even a star as bright as Pacquiao, isn't going to be enough, to outshine the tedium of Mayweather-Mosely.
I am sure he would have wanted a Mosley fight more than the Clottey fight.
I'd have to agree with you on that, but at the same time, Mosley was already booked to fight Berto. Now Pacquiao may have to settle for the winner of the Mosley-Mayweather bout (assuming he himself gets by Clottey), if it indeed comes to pass. Which if it's Mayweather this fight may never happen. Since i doubt he's going to bend on Mayweathers demand of Random blood tests.
Mayweather just made Pacquiao look bad with his recent move to potentially fight Mosley..
And the future fight might not happen at all..
Anyone agree?
I don't think he made him look bad, as I think, he out trumped him with a better Quality opponent in SSM. I can see though why you would say that, considering SSM admited to taking roids, and he doesn't have a problem with taking a test; so why should Pacquiao make such a big deal.? Honestly, if Mayweather wins, I don't think a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout will ever happen. Mayweather will have the upper hand, as far as PPV buys, WBA WW title, and will still probably ask for the random drug tests. A demand I don't see Pacquiao giving into. Quite possible theres a chance that maybe one of the best fights in this decade doesn't take place because of a drug test. I say maybe because in time things may change. However I still see a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout being a tough fight to make if an when they cross that road.
Honestly, I think if he asked Pacquiao to take the test, then I think he'll ask Mosley to be subjected to the same test as well. The only difference is I don't think SSM will have a problem with this demand the way Pacquaio did.
Who Would you rather see
Feel bad about what happen with Berto, but things happen. As for what fight I'd rather see, I would personally rather see Mayweather-Mosely, myself.
Shane's been off a year now. So many fans were looking forward to his upcoming fight at the end of the month. I know there are eager, quality Welterweights out there who would jump at the opportunity to fight Shane Mosley. Personally I don't think Floyd will fight Shane. Shane shouldn't even waste his time entertaining such a fight. Which fighters out there do you all think could get ready for a Jan 30th appearance vs Shane?
Mayweather's the biggest fight out there for Mosley, other then Pacquiao, who is already booked to fight Clottey. Hope GBP's is able to work things out between the sides, so that this fight comes to fruition. This fight is to good not to happen. Even if it's pushed back to May 1st... I say make it happen.
Mosley is a great fighter, but nowhere near the greatness of PAC. This is why its no big deal for him to bend to the crackheads' blood testing crap. Not that the blood test is important now on the Mosley-Fraud Jr fight, but the Mayweather camp will demand this test again to save face because it will be obvious that they just used it to KILL the fight with Pacquiao. So they HAVE to again demand the test on Mosley this time.
Its is certain that Mosley would prefer not to give in to that test because he is not supposed to. But he's getting desperate so he had no choice but to do just that.
One thing is for sure, if only Mosley has PAC's superb resume, he would've disagreed to that stupid test as well.
I disagree, SSM is a hellva fighter ready to prove that he is the best fighter out there, and that he has nothing to hide, being the reason he doesn't mind taking Mayweather's Random tests. The only thing I didn't agree with, was the rematch clause. I do not believe Mayweather should have an insurance policy that if he loses, he automatically gets a rematch. That I think, is BS! The winner should be taking on the winner of Pacquiao-Clottey. Not having rematch, just for hell of having a rematch. The other thing is, is this drug testing that he keeps asking for, I mean when is boxing going to step in an say look, this is not something that is mandated by the boxing commission; or any state athletic commission? Mayweather is basically making his own rules, and IMO is stacking the deck against his opponents. Drug testing, automatic rematch, probably a 60-40 split or 60-35 split...he's basically having his cake and eating it to. A good fighter, but it crazy to see some of the stuff he's able to imply and get away with.
"Alloway is the coach I know, he can speak my language to me and make me understand things better. I am disappointed in the US embassy because now I have to go and do this difficult job with people I don’t know. Now everything is on only me, I have to do it all on my own so I have to be at my best,” Clottey said.
“I am in good shape and I am enjoying myself in training and I must say I am very ready for the fight even if its today. But I need my coach there with me, I need him,” he told Ghana Web.
I mean Clottey was crying as he said this.
Thoughts.:boxing:
This is an opportunity of a life time, for Clottey... A chance to fight the pound4pound best fighter in the world, a chance to earn the biggest pay day of his career, a chance to prove himself, and instantly gain elite status, should he pull the upset over Manny. Clottey's whole career is on the line in this fight, and it's a tough situation to be in; not having your trainers, but he has two choices: Blow the biggest opportunity of his career down the drain because he doesn't have his trainer; or take destiny into his own hands and train hard to give the best performace of his career, and possibly shock the boxing world. If his trainer means that much to him, if I was him I'd train in Ghana, and then as the fight draws near head back to the stats. That way he atleast gets the majority of his training done with his main trainer. Horrible situation for Clottey to be in, but he has few other options, if his trainers are unable to attain working visa's.
Thought this fight might have fell through. Hats off to all those involved. That being said, who will get in the center of the weigh in picture? Hopkins or Ellerbe?

I was thinking the same thing, since it was taking so much time for an announcement to be made, but it seems things are moving forward now, and an offical announcement should be well on it's way now. Hats off for sure to everyone who made it happen. As for the weight in Picture, my money is on B-Hop.
I think he should fight Cintron or P-Will. I think if he wants to keep up with Pacquiao, then he should try to make a fight with P-Will. Since that is the only fight out there that would surpass Pacquiao. A fight with Cintron is good, but it's not on the level of Pacquiao-Clottey. If he wants people to start giving him credit, then I think, a fight with either of these 2 would give props (with P-Will being the Blockbuster fight).
I think there both big draws, as was evident, with 2 back-to-back million plus viewers for each of there respective fights. However, I think going by the stats, I'd have to give the edge to PBF (with Pacquiao rapidly closing ground on him).
Tito is done. He's past his prime, hasn't fought in almost 2 years, hasn't fought at WW since back in 99, when he fought Oscar, and probably couldn't make 147 at this stage. If they fought it would have to be at a catchweight somewhere around 158, and even then, I'm not sure he can make that. So I don't think Tito's a good option, even if he is, better the Cintron.
That's tough to say right now. Mayweather still has something to prove and Pacquiao isn't finished yet either. I'd have to wait and see once there careers are over, to see where I'd put them.
That's tough to just pick one. Especially when you have guys like, Dawson, Bradley, Juanma, Etc... If I had to pick, I would probably go with Mayweather, with Bad Chad a close second.
Resume? I'd say Pbf. Running 5 weight classes without any losses is exceptional to say the least. You could argue Morales but bottom line he lost 2 out of 3 times for both pac and mab trilogies. This will really be noticed 20 years from now.
Better foes? Morales. I think this was not in doubt. Just factoring both mab and pac
Tougher challenges? Morales. And even when he is beginning to show wear and tear , he still fought pac. That is challenging yourself but it means we only got a short time to enjoy his fights. You could argue Pbf ... but the ease of the way he dispose of his opponents leaves a lingering thought that he could have had better opposition out there.
Personally, I enjoy the 130-135 Pbf more than the fights of Morales. And I enjoy morales fights better than mab or jmm.
I don't believe he was focused when he fought Marco that third time around. He just didn't look like he had the will to win (almost like he didn't even want to be there). I think if he comes hungry to win he might have been able to beat MAB. The fights with Pacquiao, I think he was just drained. Before that second fight he moved up to LW, so i don't think there's any doubt that 130 was not a weight that he could make any more. If I remeber correctly he was still beating Pacquiao much the way he did in there first fight before he hit a wall in the 6th. In the latter part of that fight you could see that he was just physically drained. The third fight we won't even go there. Since I know he tried to get the fight at 135, and Pacquaio and Roach wasn't having it. 135 would have been a much more competive because he wouldn't have had to struggle to make weight. Resume wise, I'd probably give the slight edge to Erik. Not trying to take anything away from Floyd, but IMO I think Erik fought the tougher competition from start to finish.
since when has clottey become so good i mean when was the last time he won a fight
I wouldn't put to much into that "since when has he won a fight" since Clottey is a tough opponent who a lot of fighters have avoided. He was cleaning Margarito's clock before he broke his hand, and would have won the fight with Cotto had he not fell asleep in the later rounds, and was winning the fight against Bladomir before he got DQ. Clottey is good fighter, but he lacks the focus and intensity to make him a great fighter. Don't read into that since when was the last time he won a figh because that doesn't always tell the whole story.
Pac team wanted Floyd to pay 10 mill per each pound over 147 but all Floyd wanted for Pac was a stinking blood test. That alone says Pacman is afraid of something-but what was Pac really afraid of?
Manny never said he wouldn't take Floyds test. He had no problems taking his tests as long as there was a 24-day cut off. Now because Manny didn't agree to Floyds terms of what Floyd wanted, the fight was never made. It wasn't because Manny was scared to take his tests; as it was they both couldn't agree on cut off date that they both felt was fair.
You might want to take a look at the cheap shot he pulled on JMM, and maybe then you can understand why Manny asked for such a stiff penalty. Floyds shady as hell man. Especially to pull something like that against a LW JMM who was already out classed from the get go...
Mayweather really doesn't have a choice but to take this fight. Mosely is the only fight out there that will give him the biggest pay day that he's looking for, and the fight that will erase any doubt that he is anything but a fighter that just cherry picks opponents for the most amount of money with the least amount of risk. For him to not take this fight, would ruin him for good.
No. Mayweather's brittle hands don't have the the power to put Hatton out early. What got Hatton Ko'd was Floyd breaking him down and Ricky coming in like sitting duck asking to be hit.
I guess the question I am trying to ask is do you think Valero shows more heart than Packy when he sees his own blood? I've seen instances of where Packy will get cut and he behaves kind of like Juan Diaz in that regard. I thought he showed heart in the first Morales fight. But even the most rabid Packy fan will tell you that the reason that he lost was because of the cut.
And anyone remember of where JMM cut him over his eye in the eight round of the second fight and JMM dominated him in that round and it seemed like Packy hardly fought back after getting tagged. That is where Joe Chavez played the role of an outstanding cut man because he got that gash under control. And I've never seen the Sanchez-Packy fight. But people say that Packy took the easy way out in that one.
No, I would never say that Pac. lost because of the cut. He simple lost because Morales was the better fighter that night. The cut had nothing to do with it as he fought his heart out from start to finish. Morales was just the better man...no excuses. JMM had a hellva round in the 8th with out doubt he didn't give Pacquiao a chance to recover, and with blood streaming in the eye; along with Marquez tagging the shit out of him, didn't make things easy for him to regain his composure. The Sanchez fight: Sanchez used his head a lot in that fight, he deserved that DQ. Pacquiao has no quit in him. If you need prove look know further then the Morales and Marquez fights, he never quit....discouraged...more then likely...but he never quit fighting.
Pac has already established a reputation as histories greatest. He probably has achieved more than he believed possible. And he done all this without Floyd, so Pac dont need Floyd really. Pac is already who he is without PBF. PBF on his resume would be the icing on the cake though. But Pac dont need him badly. But it would be nice.
It would be fair to say there are more unanswered questions with PBF. Bought about by not fighting people he should have fought, and some has taken as ducking.
So yes i dont think it is being unfair to say PBF should be needing Pac more.
Co-sign. It's been an awesome evolution to behold watching Manny Pacquiao's career from when he first started out as a reckless abandon fighter with limited tools; to the complete offensive juggernaut that he is today. There was a time where I would have said there is no chance in hell Manny could beat Floyd...absolutely no chance...but with his hard work and dedication to improving his game under the watchful eye of Roach, this man vaulted from being a good fighter into a great fighter. Manny's an unstoppable force, and I can't wait to see the day when he steps in the ring with the in moveable object, that is Floyd Mayeather Jr... This ERA's greatest offensive fighter against this ERA's greatest defensive wizard... Something is going to have to give, and for me, I just can't see Floyd's defense holding up to Pacquiao's workrate and relentless pressure for a full 12 rounds...Floyd just isn't active enough. He'll run, but as another ATG Joe Louis once said when Asked about what he though about Bill Conns Tactics: He simply said: "He can run, but he can't hide." Manny systematically along with Roach; will devise a plan to break Floyd down, and in the later rounds finish him off or win by SD. Let me say that I do not at all see this as being an easy fight for Manny, as I see this being the toughest fight of his career, and the tougest style for him to overcome; but I do believe he has the skillset to give Floyd everything he can handle an then some to win this fight...if an when this fight every happens.
Well, he's had almost 2 years to recuperate from the wars he been in during the course of his career. So I wouldn't be to quick to shoot a come back down. As the saying goes, time heals everything, maybe time off away from the sport was what he needed to give his mind and body a chance to regroup. I wouldn't mind seeing him grace the squared circle again, to try an regain his form, and a chance at 4th title. War Terrible!!!... If this comes to fruition.
Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank told BoxingScene.com that he is considering hosting a Manny Pacquiao fight at the new Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ in the Summer. Arum mentioned Antonio Margarito as a possible opponent. Margarito is still under suspension for attempting to use loaded handwraps in his fight against Shane Mosley a year ago. Click Here To Read More]
The same Bob Arum that also said he would fight JCC Jr. to... I would take this with a grain of salt because I can't possiblely see a fight lined up for Pacquiao, to fight Maragrito next. That would just be crazy, considering there's nothing to gain, from a fight with Margarito. He's got bigger fish to fry with the winner of Mosley-Mayweather. If Bob is serious about this (a Margarito fight) though, then he's an idiot. Since there's no fight out there bigger for Pacquiao, then the winner of, Mosley-Mayweather. That's the fight that would define his greatness, that's the fight with all the prestige, the one that's going to make him the most money, and the one that all the fans want to see happen. Arum would be the biggest idiot in the world to not try make this fight happen.
WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley has already signed his portion of the contract for a May 1 title defense against Floyd Mayweather Jr. The terms have been agreed upon. Mosley signed last Friday. Everyone involved is waiting on Mayweather to sign his portion of the deal. Click Here To Read More]
Wow, and here I thought everything was a done deal... Sounds like GBP's is getting a little in patient with the antics of Mayweather. Strange that it is taken him so long to sign, when all the major points have been agreed upon. I wonder why the hold up? In any case, I hope he signs soon, really looking forward to seeing this fight take place, come May 1st.
Wow, what a turn of events, I can't believe Berto backed out, but I guess it's good news in away because it opens the door up now for a Mayweather-Mosley Clash. Make it happen...:boxing:
