He hasnt ran out of opponents. There is still guys like Jorge Arce and Hugo Cazares who he could fight. Having said that I think Nonito should move up to 118 soon. That's where all the names are at.
Fernando Montiel
Anselmo Moreno
Vic Darchinyan
Yonnhy Perez
Donaire should fight one of those guys!
Atlas is annoying and I can understand people disliking him, HOWEVER I think you have to say Larry Merchant is by far the worst commentator/analyst in boxing. He has his own personal agenda against fighters, Floyd Mayweather has had about 20+ fights on HBO. Iv'e seen at least half of them and I can't remember Larry giving him credit for anything. He criticises him in almost every fight, Even though he keeps winning and winning and winning....
I had it 116-113 for Cristian Mijares
The judge who scored 120-108 for Navarro must be blind, I thought Mijares clearly won. But there were some close rounds and I could understand you maybe having Navarro winning by a point or two. But like I said before I thought he won clearly.
Same thing with the Mijares-Munoz fight. I dont know how that was a SD
I still can't put winning 9-3 and losing the decision ahead of Coggi-Gonzalez 1.
Gonzalez, in reality, won the fight by TKO/DQ THREE times in the 2nd round and still lost the fight.
That's beyond even the worst scorecards IMO.
I just watched it, Absolutley disgraceful. I would say that the referee in that fight was as bad or worse than the referee in Sven Ottke vs Robin Reid. Coggi was hurt badly, The referee was putting his health at risk by not stopping the fight. Then they allowed his corner to come into the ring while the round was still going on. Coggi was also knocked down in, I think it was the 5th round, A clear knockdown that was ruled a slip. And to think Coggi was ahead of ALL 3 scorecards. Unbelievable, There was no way they were going to let Gonzalez win the fight.
But going back to the original point, I think in terms of fights that went 12 rounds. Campillo-Shumenov II is as bad a robbery as there has ever been in the sport of boxing.
1. Sven Ottke vs Robin Reid - Reid wins at least 8 rounds and gets a knockdown (which they somehow ruled a slip) and yet Ottke escapes with a unanimous decision. Everyone in the arena knew that Reid won the fight.
2. Gabriel Campillo vs Beibut Shumenov - Campillo outhustled, outworked and basically beat up Shumenov every round. I scored it 118-110 for Campillo but somehow Shumenov got a criminal split decision and Campillo's title with it!
3. Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Sturm - De La Hoya did well in the first couple of rounds but after that Sturm just went to work on him. Busting him up with jabs and right hands. Some people thought this was a closer fight but I scored it 117-111 for Sturm. He clearly won that fight and convincingly, but they gave it to De La Hoya to save a superfight with Bernard Hopkins.
Gabriel Campillo vs Beibut Shumenov II is hands down the biggest robbery in boxing history. Sometimes you get fights were one guy clearly won, even if it was close and didnt get the decision but Campillo completely schooled Shumenov. Winning at least 9 out of 12 rounds and beating Shumenov to a pulp in the process, But the corrupt judges gave it to Shumenov and Campillo lost his title as a result.
The one thing about Pacquiao is that he cannot adjust in fights. And Mayweather adjusts and adapts better than any fighter I have ever seen. I think Pacquiao's style would make an easy night's work for Floyd but we'll have to wait and see if the fight happens
lol. yeah. Hopkins was a dirty fighter when he was winning, losing or when the fight was even. He was an ex-con but some of the stuff he did in the ring really hurt me as a boxing fan. I just thought it was so wrong that he was allowed to get away with it, This was the Winky Wright fight im talking about...
Both are easy wins, I can't really say who would be a tougher fight because I see both of them losing one sided shutouts.
This is how I see it, both would be easy work, but I think Floyd would stop Pacquiao because he is just too predictable and easy to hit. I see both of them struggling to have any success against Floyd, but unlike Pacquiao, Bradley would probably last the distance based on his superior ring IQ.
Manny couldn't care less. He just lets Bob Arum pick his fights for him. I think he's just happy making good money and getting a lot of attention. This has been illustrated many times. They have asked him over and over again : "Manny, do you want to fight Floyd Mayweather?" and every time he says the same thing while sweating and looking worried and uninterested. "Uh, uh, hmm, uhh, uhh, uhh, it depends on my promoter, Bob Arum!"
Here's a great video that pretty much sums it up. Very frustrating.
My birthday is in September and there always seems to be a really good selection of fights during this month, and this year it is absolutley packed, so I am really looking forward to it. I think the best week will be September 15th but the 1st is also going to be very good with Sturm-Geale and Tepparith. Another great thing about the month is that I imagine we will know Floyd's next opponent by the time that it's over.
I don't see Chavez Jr getting stopped as he's going to come into the ring weighing at least 10, maybe 15 pounds heavier than Martinez. I think this fight is going to look similar to the Kelly Pavlik fight, except Martinez is going to get robbed. And all the Chavez Jr fans will be claiming that he really won just like the Pacquiao fans were claiming that he beat Marquez. Then what will happen is that Bob "I Have No Soul" Arum will set up a rematch to make another ton of money. Should Martinez suprisingly find a way to stop him (at least it would be a suprise to me) then Freddie "The Dope Coach" Roach will probably come out and say that Chavez wasn't at his best because he forgot to give him his "special blend" and also because he had to deal with the deadly "leg cramps" that Manny Pacquiao also gets on a regular basis. Cramps just happen to be a side effect of PED's.
This is a good move regardless of who he chooses to train him, because I don't think he can pick anyone worse than Roach. However I think Khan's biggest problem is himself. He thinks he's much, much better than he really is and his ring IQ is very low, I have never ever seen him adjust in the ring and I think his general talent is also overrated. I'm not sure that a new trainer can change these things. At a certain point in a fighter's career, he just is what he is and won't change and I think Khan might have reached that point. The next step should be for him to move up in weight to 147. It will be interesting to see if he wins another world title, I doubt it, but I expect him to get the chance.
Ward deserves more credit because he took on the #1 ranked guy at Light Heavyweight and another p4p ranked boxer. Plus Dawson wasn't coming off a brutal, career-changing loss like Hatton, Cotto, Margarito and Mosley were.
He's one of the greatest of all time for sure. However, I thought he lost to Marvin Hagler, and he didn't give him a rematch to settle the controversy.
Too bad he is with Top Rank. As a general rule, Bob Arum never lets his fighters face Floyd. He mentions Mayweather all the time to hype up his guys, but in reality, doing business with him is the last thing on that old crook's mind.
no...we dont all agree and i stopped reading your post when you said that we DO all agree.
Either come at me with an intelligent point or don't bother posting in my threads. Explain why he shouldn't be fined if that's what you believe.
zero point zero.
Why not? Ortiz was fined 100K for saying he tried to break Floyd's nose. Is that worse than declaring you want to kill someone? Absolutely not.
It just sets a bad example for all the young people watching and it annoys me how when Floyd does anything remotely questionable, the media and all his critics go wild, but when someone says or does something far more serious (like this, or Margarito loading his gloves) certain people (like many of you in this thread) give them a pass and they only get a little slap on the wrist.
dog..all you did was diss Shane..its not his fault the game is corny atm....you invested too many keys into Shane's last performances and not enough into the corruption and corny ass ways the game has atm.....Molsey's job is to feed his fam...and if these clowns wanna keep paying him its their fault....don't hate the player, hate the game...you should know that by now!!
If there was corruption involved in the Mosley/Pacquiao fight and Mosley did indeed throw the fight like I think he did, then he absolutley deserves to be blamed for it. No boxer/fighter with an ounce of pride and/or respect for the sport and it's fans would do that. Let's face facts. Shane has looked like garbage for 3 fights in a row and he hasn't won a fight in more than 3 years. He doesn't deserve a title shot, and while he has had a pretty good career in the sport of boxing, I don't have much respect for him. Let's be honest. He's lost to pretty much all of the elite boxers that he has faced, taken steroids, probably for his whole career, and then you think about the way he performed in the Pacquiao fight, it just disgusts me. And this guy has the nerve to call himself a "warrior". :nonono:
He doesnt' deserve it, but if he gets offered it why not?
As if anybody would say no
I'm not hating on Mosley for accepting the fight, my problem is with the people who are giving him an opportunity that he simply doesn't deserve. Admittedly the fans who buy the May 5th PPV will be buying it almost purely for the Mayweather fight, but they shouldn't have to watch a mis-match like this, with a guy who hasn't won a fight in more than 3 years and has looked terrible in each and every one of his last 3 fights. Fights like this are not going to bring new fans to the sport of boxing. Fights like this will drive fans away. We need to see more competitive matchups and less guys who are just there for the payday like Shane. Saul Alvarez, Richard Schaefer and Oscar De La Hoya should all be ashamed for making this fight when there are much better ones to be made.
i think he deserves it because he is on his way out and why not give him another shot before he leaves the sport? its sugar shane mosley, and its enough that he has to fight a strong 21 year old, so I think its more of a "favor" type fight than anything else...
He hasn't won a fight in more than 3 years and his last two performances were beyond awful. He got outboxed by a guy (Mora) who lost to a bum (Vera) in his very next fight. Overall I just think that the Pacquiao fight should be the final straw. There is no excuse for how badly he performed in that fight and it should result in people not taking him seriously anymore. Whether he threw the fight or not. His "performance" was a disgrace to the sport of boxing and everybody who is a fan of it.
The level of disrespect towards Mayweather in this thread is disgusting. I know that a lot of you don't like him because of the way he behaves outside the ring and that's understandable, but for people to act like he's not on Duran's level and flat out deny his skills like a lot of you guys have is just embarrassing. Floyd is one of the greatest boxers of all time and he would have been competitive in any era of the sport. As for how this match up would go, I definitelely see Roberto giving Floyd a hard time but I think Mayweather would eventually figure him out and pull out a narrow decision. People can bring up the Castillo fights and say Duran was better than Castillo which he obviously was, but you need to realise that in the first fight Floyd was badly injured and still won by at least 2 points.
In the rematch, when he was healthy, it was easy work. I'm a big Duran fan and he was a great boxer but skill wise, I think Floyd would have been too much for him. His defence would've been too tricky, his reflexes too sharp and his ring IQ would have tied Hands of Stone in knots. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it would be easy at all, at Lightweight, I think it would be very competitive and close. However, if they fought at any weight above that then I think Floyd would win comfortably.
