A good test for Berto. Berto has good boxing skills, but he tends to fight his opponent's fight. If he tries to box Clottey, he can win an easy decision.
Would it have done bigger numbers than Pacquiao vs. Clottey? Probably. It would be viewed as a competitive fight, so I think the numbers would be closer to 1 million. Just about everyone expected Pacquiao's punch output to win rounds against Clottey. It looked to be an easy fight for Pacquiao and it was.
Clottey looked fine to me, dancing on his way to the ring. I do feel that a change of trainers did affect him slightly. To be an elite, you have to be strong mentally. Clottey was not.
Shove the technicalities up your ass.
For 40 fights,
he failed to do random blood testing.
He used PEDs for 40 fights.
I don't see you correcting the "40 have tried 40 have failed" mantra.
How did he fail when no one has asked him to take the test? Guess who's volunteering to take the test? Not his opponents.
Pacquiao's superstitions.
When Mayweather retired:
Mosley had lost against Cotto the month before his fight with Hatton.
Berto was a rising star, not well known.
Margarito had lost to Paul Williams.
Williams lost to Quintana 2 months after Mayweather's fight with Hatton.
Clottey was fighting on Versus.
Mayweather-De La Hoya 2 was next for him, so the Cotto fight wasn't going to happen. Cotto would face Margarito and lose. He's back at the right time.
Your serious a flomo if you think Oscar was in his prime when Floyd fought him. Neither Pac or Floyd fought an in his prime Oscar. Both fought an out of his prime Oscar and only 1 did what he was suppose to...you don't win via SPLIT decision to a man whose a shell of hs old self. Sad.
It was ruled a split decision, but in reality it wasn't even close. There are robberies in boxing and Mayweather was nearly robbed that night.
To tell you the truth, no one really wanted a JMM PPV either, but it sold.
It was more interesting than a rematch with De La Hoya. Marquez was #2 pound-for-pound before Mayweather's return. Plus, he was the best Mexican fighter at the time.
thats called getting the rounds in the bank after a long lay off, i mean whats the point in blasting him out in 2 rounds, pointless....
For me may/marquez was more exciting because that was masterclass, most of the time id rather watch a masterclass over 12 rather a slug fest that ends a couple of rounds, but thats just me...
As for pac/clottey that was neither, it really didnt do anything for me, best bit was watching pacs body shots.
The proof will be in how many times would you re-watch each fight, iv watched may-marquez many times but i wouldnt sit through the pac fight again.
Marquez has never been knocked out. Pacquiao knocked him down four times in two fights, but was still not able to knock him out. He's tough.
I'm not watching the replay of Pacquiao vs. Clottey this weekend. Maybe if I need help sleeping.
Yeah..but that was also at 147lbs......and to tell you the truth...Floyd knew that.
The Lazcano fight? That was at 140.
Top ranks line of thinking was since Cotto beat shane, and that we can keep the money inhouse, Cotto fight makes sense. I can see and arguement for both sides but IMO Pac made the best descision. Don't worry if Shane takes care of business he will defiantly get a Pac fight...so the ball in now in his court.
That's the problem. Top Rank is keeping everything in-house, which is why we are not going to see him fight Mosley or even Timothy Bradley. Instead, we just got Joshua Clottey and Margarito may be next. Those two did not earn a shot at Pacquiao.
Who won between Cotto and Mosley?
Split decision win for Cotto. I thought it was a draw.
Cotto was destroyed by Margarito. Mosley destroyed Margarito, becoming the man at welterweight. Mosley was available, but Pacquiao wanted Cotto or should I say Top Rank ordered Pacquiao to fight Cotto.
And please don't say Floyd ruined Hatton.....it was Hatton's 1st loss....Hatton was still the RING champ at 140lbs.....
You could argue that Hatton wasn't at his best. Remember when he needed a break to tie his shoes after getting punished by Lazcano?
Yes I am. Shane is apart of this company and even they are co-signing what Im saying. They mentioned in a nutshell that since Cotto beat Mosley, That mosley wasn't the clear cut guy at WW even though he beat Tony.
Why is it that Shane's on company agrees with me?
Cotto's win over Mosley was not clear. Cotto was knocked out by Margarito. Mosley knocked out Margarito. Mosley is #1 at welterweight. I don't see how Cotto can be rated #1 after getting knocked out.
So why didn't the ring magazine (Owned by GBP) not label him as such? Don't you think it would be advantageous for them to do so, esp since Shane was their fighter? Truth be told it was a traingle of victory/losses and their was clear #1 at WW during that time. It came down to shane or cotto, and since Cotto beat Shane....the choice was easy.
Are you seriously bringing up Ring Magazine into this discussion?
Both fighters looked terrible. It's worse for Hopkins because he's not the shot fighter between the two. Hopkins did look his age a bit in this fight. I thought he would try to KO Jones, but he just slowed down towards the end of the fight. Too bad he won't take on Chad Dawson, a much more meaningful fight for Hopkins.
Pac does'nt need KFC to prove he is the best....
How can you say that? Don't act like you would be satisfied if Pacquiao never fought Mayweather. Pacquiao needs to fight Mayweather. Mayweather needs to fight Pacquiao. In my mind, there is no best until they fight each other.
You can't underestimate Abraham's defense. He will be able to slip in those right hands against Froch. Dirrell was just too fast for him. Froch will leave himself open by throwing wide punches.
Seems that to be number one, you have to beat the number one guy, in this case Manny Pacquiao. Last week, Manny was numero uno, Shane was second. Floyd beats Shane now he's number one? LOL, shit don't work like that. The Ring is losing credibility with this one.
Pacquiao beat the #2 Welterweight to become #1. Mayweather beat the #1 Welterweight to become #1. Yeah, Mayweather deserves the #1 spot at Welterweight.
I don't think it should be for the Ring title. Mosley and Pacquiao are the top two Welterweights. Mayweather is #3, only because of the brief retirement. The winner should be considered #1 at Welterweight. Then the top 2 should fight for the Ring title, Mayweather-Pacquiao or Mosley-Pacquiao.
