I was reading this other thread and it got me curious so I would like to know from you knowledgeable boxing fan's if you had a vote would you vote for this fight to be for the WW Ring Title? let's just forget how the ranking is at the moment I would like you're opinion based on what you know about the fighters and the devision
I don't think it should be for the Ring title. Mosley and Pacquiao are the top two Welterweights. Mayweather is #3, only because of the brief retirement. The winner should be considered #1 at Welterweight. Then the top 2 should fight for the Ring title, Mayweather-Pacquiao or Mosley-Pacquiao.
For #1 WW sure.
Even though it took him this long to face a real WW. It's ok cause everyone knows that he has the goods.
For #1 P4P Hell naw.
Unless Pac "retires" then Floyd goes on a winning streak (i.e Pacquiao) or he fights him straight up...No way he's taking that title.
if floyd absolutely goes nuts on shane he will be ranked number 1.
He only lost it to retirement. I'll bet all my points the ring ranks him number 1 if he destroys shane.
u gotta deal...........all my points......
I still say that this fight should be for the ww ring belt since they had Marge at #1 and Mosley beat the number one. I don't care for the inactivity excuse because SSM did go out of his way trying to fight both Mayweather and Pacquiao so he still is the #1 IMO and Floyd is #3. this fight should be on of the cases that 1 v.s 3 being a title fight IMO
how is that possible if neither of them is p4p #1????u gotta beat pacquiao to take the crown......
If Floyd absolutely goes nuts on Shane he will be ranked Number 1.

Huh. So the Ring dropped the ball on that? I could see an arguement that wins over Cotto and Clottey could put Pac over Mosley from a rankings standpoint, but if Marg vs Mosley had be for the Ring belt, that wouldn't of mattered. Had that happened, for Pac to have been over Mosley, he would of had to beat Mosley himself.
Yea the Ring dropped the ball.
The way the Ring did it. Pac has a claim to be the #1 ranked WW. But, Shane is the lineal champ. So Shane-Floyd is not for the ring title and it shouldn't be since Pac is ranked #1. But, it will be for the lineal belt and Pac will be the #1 contender for that belt...
Marg vs Shane was for the lineal title, it just wasn't for the Ring title.
The biggest misconception that goes on with fans IMO. Is that they think that the Ring title is the lineal title. And, that is not always the case.

the winner will be the king at 147, there is no doubt.
if floyd wins, it would be a close race where u can make arguments for either fighter being p4p #1.
should they fight after floyd beats shane, nobody has to worry about who is the better fighter anymore.
Marg vs Shane wasn't for the lineal belt for some odd reason. May vs Shane should be for the ring welterweight title, but it isn't, at least not by the Ring's standards. However, the winner of this fight should clearly be ranked the number 1 welterweight, and would probably have to beat Pac or the number 3 guy to be lineal by the ring's standards.

the winner is clearly the number 1 ww.
The ring will make the winner the p4p number 1.

Ok so then that would be starting a new line of succession right it would be as if Floyd vacated the title right
Right, after Floyd vacated the title. The winner of Marg-Shane was starting a new line of succession. Shane won... So now if Floyd wins and he would be the lineal champion once again. But, won't be the Ring champ....
Cotto was not the lineal champ, the lineal title was vacant when Floyd retired. Is kinda hard to beat the man who beat the man if the man is not fighting anymore.
That is why you can win the vacant lineal title in a box off between the #1 ranked fighter vs the #2 ranked fighter or in some instances the #1 rank fighter vs the #3 rank fighter.
Margarito was #1-Shane was #3. Margarito was coming off a win against the #2 guy in Cotto. So this fight was for the vacant lineal title since the #1 guy had already taken care of the #2 guy and now was fighting the #3 guy.

this is kinda confusing tho I thought the lineal champion you know the man who beat the man. I mean why was Cotto the lineal champion after Floyd retired

The Ring though is so fucking stupid sometimes did not put the Ring title on the line. But, Marg-Shane was for the rightfully lineal title...

assuming you meant Margarito took it by beating Cotto
