Who is not convinced about how good Pacquiao is or being hyped up to be? I love watching Pacquiao fight and i have nothing against him, but i cant help think he getting vastly overrated.
What is more worrying is the amount of band wagoners/fanboys that have joined team Pacquaio. I feel sorry for Pacquiao, because WHEN he loses those same people that are success only fans will drop him and chastise him if he gets beaten badly. I believe he will lose soon. Not because he is not a good fighter and not because im a hater or i dislike him, but simply the fact that he is consistently fighting good opposition. Pac should learn from Joe and Floyd. The way to stay undefeated is to fight WHO you want, not who the public expect you to fight.
I will always be a Pac fan, but from a distance. I wont be shocked when he loses ...........about how many of these huggers will of disappeared and moved onto the next successful fighter who is flavour of the month.
Pacquiao is great, of that there is no doubt, but you always have to expect the top guys to start to be overrated by the majority after a period of time. It happens constantly no matter which top tier fighter you reference.
since he's from philly rock it with something from Vinnie Paz & Jedi Mind Tricks.. maybe one of the animal rap mixes....the arturo gatti mix...more uptempo.
Animal Rap (Arturo Gatti Mix)
Granted the Mickey Ward mix is bad as hell too..
He used to live in the same town as I do. Matter of fact he used to work at Rusty Wallace Pontiac, I bought my Grand Am from him at one point. Sad to see he is coming back, especially considering the way his career ended.
However, Frankie has long had a drug problem. That combined with his legal troubles have really eaten in to his finances is my guess. Regardless he was great to watch when he was in his prime.
I have to get something off of my chest. Something that really bothers me is the lack of any mention of certain fights when people are talking of great fights. These fights are the likes of Benn vs McClellan and Eubank vs Watson II and Robert Quiroga vs Kid Akeem Anifawoshe and many others that have ended in tragedy. While being tragic to me the real tragedy lies in the way these fights are not spoken of because people think it shows a lack of respect. These fighters all know the risks and accept them and even in losing in these fights to me it was how they fought in these fights that they should be remembered.
Even though defeated to me it was their finest hour, they fought for the sport they loved and for the glory and in these fights they showed everything that everyone wants to see and showed a lot more.
No one can begin to imagine the pain that Gerald McClellan was suffering in his fight with Nigel Benn and yet he still carried on trying to fight through the pain barrier in his quest for the victory. He showed everything expected of him and much much more and should be remembered for his courage in the face of adversity. They are heroes of the ring who gave absolutely everything they could of and it is a real shame that because of the tragic endings they seem to be forgotten.
They should be remembered and these fights should be talked of for what they where absolute classics.
Michael Watson has made a slow but good recovery and is proud of his achievments in the ring and is able to talk of the last fight of his career. He doesn't want sympathy and showed what a remarkable man he is with the way he fought back to make a better recovery than anyone imagined. Even though not back to his normal self and struggles to walk small distances put himself through another hell and completed the london marathon in the slowest time ever. I can't remember how long it took him but it was a gargantuan feat by an incredible man with so much courage and bravery and when people talk of Michael Watson that's how I remember him in that fight with Eubank and how he gave almost his life for something that he loved and we all love so much.
So let's remember these fights and talk of them and remember the courage that these great great fighters showed and the thrill they gave us all.
Great post bro. I agree 100%. I think today's sports culture covers these fights in the veil of political correctness and thats a true shame. Even though they are tragic in ending, these fights exemplify what should be great about professional sports - heart, courage and athletic prowess.
In a sports world full of prima donnas and pretenders, professional boxers (some of them at least) set a great example of what athletics, and the human spirit, is about.
The Hawk by UD. Floyd moves too much to get outright KO'd and on the flipside I don't think Floyd's shots would phase Pryor. Pryor's workrate is almost unequaled and Floyd would be hardpressed to counter it. It would be like using a waterhose to stop a buzzsaw.
All my opinion of course.
This information ios wrong. Vargas himself has said its still at 165. Here is what Vargas said himself. Its a screenshot from one of his myspace bulletins. My friend sent this to me when we were discussing the supposed change in weights.

Personally I think it's ludicrous for anyone to claim they 'know' a fighter dodged another fighter. When you factor in all the variables ( promoters, alphabet organizations, differing networks, money split ,etc.) there is no way you can say one ducked the other with complete certainty because one of the aforementioned variables likely played a part in any fight not taking place.
Sometimes fights just can't feasibly be made in todays enviroment and thats just how it is. It's not like the old days, way too many wrenches to throw in the cogs. Plus, why rely on most media outlets? We all know how full of shit most of them are. They just jockey for the big story regardless of its validity.
Until you are part of said negotiations for a fight, and an integral part of the behind the scenes politics, I think its way too presumptuous, with a tad bit of poor judgement, for anyone to claim one fighter ducked the other.
I'd have to agree with these guys in picking Joe Louis or Ray Robinson. I don't know about the greatest but Aaron Pryor was a very good combination puncher.
PART 2
You can even look at a guy like Dougie Fischer who hates Floyd and loves Margarito. He calls Floyd a fraud all the time. With that being said, he also says that Margarito isnt even in his top 15 P4P and never will be because he's not that special. He just thinks he will win because of how big he is. Well what does that prove? He also just said that Floyd wont beat Cotto because he's too small. I just dont get how everyone openly says that but doesnt look deeper into it. If thats the case then you should not be dissing the guy. He's not the other WW's where they have only fought at 1 weight and are always the bigger man. He's not Pac who has moved up alot but made EM & MAB look like little boys because he was so huge. He's always outweighed by a ton but people will still call him punks if he doesnt fight these guys or if he loses to these guys. They make fun of him for fighting a 140 pounder in Hatton even though he's still bigger then Floyd yet they say nothing about those huge guys wanting to fight Floyd. He's much closer to Hatton then those guys are to him.
It then makes me mad that if he did take a fight with Cotto then people still wouldnt say that it was something special that he's doing. They would act like that's what he's supposed to do and its a regular fight that he should win if he's good. Thats not the case at all. He should be given all the credit in the world for taking on a guy way bigger then him at a weight he shouldnt be at and if he wins against this young prime monster then he should be damn near immoratlized because its been a long time since someone has done this against top guys at his size. Again, he's P4P the smallest guy in boxing bar none. He's a small dude who has moved up unaturally fighting against monsters. Then you guys rip him for the way he fights when you think about all that? Let him always fight guys smaller then him and then watch how he fights. Its easy to look like those other guys when your doing that but let them fight someone in there 4th weight class who is much bigger then them and see how they would run or get Knocked clean out early
I think most of the reasons for the hate against Floyd and picking against him is his boastful nature and his ability to talk it up. Not much different than Ali. Pick against him not out of logic but out of hate and spite.
a great fight by two warriors. Cotto won a good, close fight. No robbery. Personally, I don't see the need to disrespect two guys that fought their hearts out last night. They both deserve respect win or lose.
It's funny how they say the same thing for Floyd. Cotto was effectively counterpunching and although he wasn't the agressor he was the one landing clean effective punches.
I agree 100%. Being the aggressor only works if you're landing the most effective punches.
Anyone who thinks this is delusional and DKSAB. Tyson wouldn't have won a single round vs. a prime Ali.
Ali took punches from the greatest knockout artist the heavyweight division ever saw in George Foreman, laughed in his face in the ring after Foreman hit him with his best shot, and actually asked Foreman if that was all he he had. Foreman replied "Yep, that's it" before he knocked Foreman out. And just so you know, prime Foreman KOs Mike pretty easily.
Greatest chin heavyweight division ever saw. Greatest hand speed, greatest footwork too. Do not disrespect Ali by comparing him to Mike.
I was always of the opinion that the pre-exile Ali would be the version of The Greatest most susceptible to a prime Mike Tyson. Sure the pre-exile Ali was much faster and able to avoid lots of punches but he was also less experienced and prone to get rocked, and knocked down, from left hooks. The version of Ali that would trouble Mike the most would be the Ali that fought Foreman. Nowhere as fast as he was earlier but iron chinned and vastly experienced. He would tie Mike up and frustrate the hell out of him. Probably stop him late. Just my opinion though.
The first boxing match I can remember seeing was going with my dad to see the travesty that was Berbick-Ali in 1981, on closed circuit, at the Princess Theater.
This more and more resembles a lover's spat between Malignaggi and McGregor. Could possible be humorous if it weren't so pathetic.
Money better bust this fool up and end this farce for good.
These McGregor trolls and MMA clowns truly take the cake when it comes to delusional nonsense. The faster Floyd busts this fool up and ends this farce the better.
Blame television (all of it from networks to PPV) for the "puny fan" - they have made "undefeated" the 'golden cafe' worshiped by the American sports fan.
We have been indoctrinated to believe it is important; the definitive sign of greatness.
In my opinion coming back from adversity is a better sign of greatness than being undefeated. Would we today really marvel at SRR's perfect left hook if Gene Fullmer hadn't beaten him previously?
P.S. American Football uses it best; they get to restart fresh every season "the run for the dream." (The funny thing is the NFL is better served by teams coming close but not making it.)
It's all a marketing tool. They have people believing that a loss diminishes a top flight boxer but we all know that isn't the case. World class fighters who routinely fight others will sometimes catch an L. It's just the way it is. However, the promoters have the public believing otherwise and public perception is what sells the fight.
It's not a win either. Get with the program kid
I see you are another one who can't discern the difference between a DEFEAT and a DRAW. To the back of the class for you, Junior.
