he just faught on march 16 in the irish-ropes promoted card "erin go brawl" where he beat anthony bosante in a stoppage due to an accidental headbuthe's... fighting on friday night at the beacon theater in manhattan... pawel wolak is on the undercard... but the fight isnt televised
we saw what happened with calzaghe when he fought a fighter like sakio bika that could do more than just rumble... kessler has the greatest jab in the game right now, and has a very tested chin... i think thart kessler is stronger physically and can not be hurt by calzaghe's punches... he knows he has to stay off the ropes unlike that moron manfredo... i am more excited about the prospect of this fight than DLH-Mayweather
oscar's left hook is deadly... vargas and mayorga found that out the hard way... if oscar can catch floyd with one left hook the fight is over, because oscar is as good of a finisher as there is in the sport.
i think that papa did very good for his first time with the BAD crew... I really enjoyed the telecast as a whole, the barrera-marquez fight was very good for the first fight and then the kessler fight was very enjoyable as well
i dont think that its totally insane to have kessler in the top 10 p4p... he could hover in the bottom of the list... third might be a little quick for right now, but if he beats calzaghe with ease, then he is definetly a top p4p
gatti will go right through gomez... after all we all know that people from "the contender" are extremely overrated... look at manfredo vs a real fighter like calzaghe... or when jesse brinkley got the shit kicked out of him by an old and rusty robin reid
but there is no way in hell that gatti will beat JCC Jr. Chavez is a natural welterweight, whereas Gatti is blown up to 147. Plus Chavez has the height and reach advantage, is quicker and hits harder. HBO is pushing this fight just as a passing of the torch so more people can see JCC Jr. and hop on his bandwagon.
yeah here's a better pic of her i found in the galleries: http://www.boxingscene.com/media/showphoto.php/photo/12430/size/big/cat/
you think he could do a little better being arturo gatti and all
not sure what your on. Pete is one of the most laid back respectful fighters out there. he didnt talk shit at all..
yeah i gotta agree... in the press confrences he did nothing but compliment calzaghe and thank him for the opporunity...plus after the fight he could have bitched about the premature stoppage, but it wasnt too bad... he knew he was outclassed and accepted it
yeah actually his interview tonight he asked some really good questions... he does have flashes where he's good, but overall i just think he's past his prime
yeah but the sons (and daughters) of former world champs haven't done too bad for themselves:
-- Layla Ali (Daughter of the Greatest)
-- JC Chavez Jr. (On his way up through the ranks and looking promising)
-- Ray Mancini (Father Lenny Mancini was an elite level fighter)
-- Floyd Mayweather (Uncle Roger was great fighter and dad would have been good if he didn't get mixed up with drugs)
Boxing is a sport where you don't have to be incredibally gifted to be great. Hard work, determination and a great understanding can get you a long way in the sport (see Ricky Hatton who has no real boxing skills, but all the heart and determination in the world)
they were two seperate statements... its pretty obvious that "irish" micky ward and "ireland's" john duddy, plus tex cobb, fullmer and wayne were all non-italians
nah sugar ray won't make much of a difference at all, who else has he ever trained who reached a championship level?
on a sidenote: tiggers has a great avatar - the ginger kid episode of south park is funny as shit and cartman is a great character!
willie pep is one of the top 3 p4p fighters of all time... no questions asked
he was a true boxer not just a fighter.... like somebody said, marciano is too small to be effective in todays world, he would be a fringe contender... willie pep would still be world champ, nobody in todays world could hit him
Here's an article from ******** Boxing that may or may night be true, though it's all speculation. But from the sound of it, I don't think Arturo is Paulie's idol anymore (http://www.********boxing.com/news.php?p=9947&more=1)...
Fistic Flashes: Gatti Disses Paulie And Crew! Silverhawk To Announce TV Fight Series! Byrd Flying To Bahamas To Paint Sherwin Williams!
19.02.07 - By Michael Marley, BoxingConfidential.com: NEW YORK --It was just before the last call for alcohol at Tir Na Nog, the Irish watering hole near the Hammerstein Ballroom and the Garden. Arturo Gatti and his sidekicks were in the house and the cocktails were flowing. Fresh from his easy decision victory over Edner Cherry, Yo Paulie Malignaggi and his younger, Brooklyn entourage were also imbibing.
Now, as a follow-up to my early Sunday exclusive that HBO is willing to buy Gatti vs. Malignaggi for a July 14 Atlantic City showdown which will be more incestuous than a family reunion in a redneck-infested trailer park, I can tell you that remarks were made, insults were hurled and Malignaggi no longer idolizes Mr. Gatti..
"Profane remarks were made, maybe not to Paulie's face, but by Gatti and his cronies to Paulie's friends. One of them said Paulie stings like a crippled mosquito. Another guy said Paulie belongs on the old "Dance Fever" TV show. One thing led to another and feelings were hurt. Paulie will never look at Gatti with the respect he used to have for the old warrior," an eyewitness told me. "They just were not too nice to Paulie and notice was taken. I guess Arturo was getting his game face on."
A source close to Malignaggi and his manager, Sal LoNano, confirmed that the Gatti posters have been taken down in the Malignaggi Mansion.
"When Paulie lost to Miguel Cotto," the source said. "he got a cheer up call from Gatti. Arturo, who is great buddies with old rival Mickey Ward (also handled by LoNano), told Paulie to keep his chin up, that he had big balls...words of encouragement to a young fighter who suffered his first loss. So Paulie was surprised by the sudden badmouthing from Gatti and his posse."
A premium cable TV network source, speaking for background only, told me Monday "that HBO wants the fight. But HBO will not give Gatti what he wants, which is a warm up fight. HBO does not care if there is no title at stake. They see it as a passing of the torch type event and, if it is 10 rounds, so what?"
was zab judah or luis collazo there?
I didn't see Zab, but Collazo was there... he sat in the section right next to me!
Also in attendance: Arturo Gatti; Vito Antuofermo; Chuck Zito (I know he's not a boxer, but he's still pretty cool); Edgar Santana; Gary Stark Jr, Mickey Ward; David Tua
In an interview on ESPN.com, somebody asked Paulie if he would ever fight Gatti. He said that as of right now, no, he couldn't see himself in there with his childhood idol, and just couldn't see him self fighting him. He went on to say that he would stand there kind of dumbfounded and in awe. However he said that money changes a lot of things, but he said that he would like to stay away from that course.
However, it would make for a very inetresting matchup. Paulie could definetly outbox Gatti, and I don't think that gatti hits harder than Cotto does, so I don't think that Gatti could knock him out. I would think Paulie would win, since Arturo is a shell of what he used to be. Plus which one would Buddy McGirt choose to train?
Probably won't happen, but still fun to think about!
i just hope somebody gets knocked down so I can see Kenny Bayless do his count... everytime he does it I cand up cracking up, the man is histerical... but he's a good ref nonetheless
i heard from talking with bernard fernandez that mcgirt basically told gatti that he doesn't want to train him any more because he could see arturo getting more hurt physically and mentally (and judging from that video his brain's already been rattled one too many times). he said that he just didnt want it on his chest that he got a man hurt like that, and arturo didn't respond well.
was that comment about buddy's career being "fucked" a shot at malignaggi, his new fighter, or am i reading too much into it?
