willie pep is one of the top 3 p4p fighters of all time... no questions asked
he was a true boxer not just a fighter.... like somebody said, marciano is too small to be effective in todays world, he would be a fringe contender... willie pep would still be world champ, nobody in todays world could hit him
paisa, it's azzurri not azzuri

pernell whitaker was very similar to him, why doesnt he get that kind of respect? I mean he did beat azumah nelson and chavez.
Pep just gets ranked in the top 5 cuz hes an old guy and we show more love towards them.
Whitaker is considered one of the greatest fighters in the j. lightweight division...ever... thats a preeeeeeeeetty good amount of respect...
And PEP fought when boxing mattered, so his wins meant a lot more and the respect he gets SHOULD be a lot greater.
who the fuck would pick maricano over willie pep...marciano was in a plane crash and died.. wilie pep was in a plane crash and they said he might not live .. then they said he might not walk.. then they said he'll never fight again then he had a whole nother career.. if marciano fought today he would be a fringe contender pep would be a champion
He HAS to be top 5 because of the way he won. He slipped and dodged and weaved. He was graceful.
He famously won a round without throwing a single punch. Who else could do that?
He could brawl and he could box. He could fight dirty and beat you at your own game.
He has got to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, even if he never fought a good fighter in his entire life. Its the impressive way he got to victory that really impressed

pep beat alot of very good fighters, but did he beat enough elites to get himself in the top 5, no he did not. Hes prolly the best featherweight of all times, but he is not top 5 all times in my book.

and came back to fight the perfect fight and won in 15 rounds. Which is widely considered one of the greatest fights of all time...

Some of these guys were Italian-Americans, but not actual Italian citizens. I don't think they qualify as "Italians" per se, so maybe you should distinguish between the 2......
which opponents did he really beat to earn that recognition? Leonard beat hagler, hearns, duran and benitez. Pep sure as hell didnt beat guys on that level, o wait he fought an elite like saddler and got knocked the fuck out.
and came back less then 5 months later to fight the perfect fight against sadler and won in 15 rounds. Which is widely considered one of the greatest fights of all time...
Not to mention the fact that he had over 200 wins and less then 15 losses.
Willie Pep, Top 3 P4P all time

willie pep is the greatest of that list,
if you want a fighter who grew up in italy and fought out of Italy, it has to be Duilio Loi.
