I had the majority of the fight between Canelo-Trout even. Austin Trout in my mind is a very good fighter. I was disappointed with his showing versus Delvin Rodriguez(as with Rodriguez). Trout's jab is decent and more of a range finding jab rather than a power jab. I do hope that Trout can get a few more big fights.
Honestly, Pay-Per-View has killed boxing. I see some posters claiming that Boxing PPV numbers dwarf MMA numbers and honestly that shouldn't matter. I don't know the exact number of PPV's that boxing does a year but I would rather see that it be shown in over at least 50 Million homes on regular television than by say a million PPV customers per bout. The big shows do limit viewers to just a few boxers. The numerous amount of belt holders also hurts Boxing. You can sometimes have more than 12 "Champions" in one weight division. I live in the South Florida area and rarely can I find a fellow boxing enthusiast. I did happen to find a radio show here on Espn's radio that diverts some of it's air time to Boxing/MMA on Sunday's 10AM-Noon. I enjoy when they devote time to Boxing but about 60-70% of the time they talk about MMA. I agree with most, Espn's coverage of Boxing consists of recaps or a quick snippet on the ticker. Soccer is starting to get more coverage on Espn compared to Boxing.
I don't think that it's fair to even say that Marquez is an ATG at Welterweight. Marquez is one of my favorite fighter's but never would I try to make an arguement for Marquez at Welterweight. You did put a lot of emphasis on the sanctioning organizations and I think that most consider those rankings and belts meaningless. A boxer can get a world championship belt with the right promoter.
Arakawa you mention three sports that have the complete opposite scoring system of boxing. In tennis, you go get your points until you reach your quota. In golf you have to be aggressive and keep playing as though you are behind. In wrestling, you do the same, keep playing until you reach the point limit. All three sports have a definitive scoring system. There is no judges that gauge your shots in golf or tennis. The best in tennis and golf are aggressive players who take risk; Tiger Woods and depending on you like Djokovic, Nadal or Federer.
If standing in the pocket means that you throw an average of fifteen power punches per round and connect 8 then I really need to quit watching boxing. The main article on this site even states that he mainly threw jabs. The statistics are there to prove that he definitely is just jabbing. The friends that I had over were waiting the entire fight for more action and albeit it never came. I am glad that I was able to save them money.
Interesting that you mention that a fighter doesn't get any respect from you for fighting smaller fighters but doesn't Mayweather do the same thing? He fought a completely worn down Cotto and Mosley. He brought up Guerro, Marquez, Ortiz and Hatton.
This would be an amazing fight! I favor Maquez just because he is a true professional of his craft. Matthysse is a beast though. Great fantasy match up.
Victor Ortiz has a very good manager. I feel that he must have a good attitude and personality to be able to land the opportunities that he has gotten. He's making smart career moves. Good for Ortiz. As far as having to thank Mayweather, who ever believes that nonsense, must believe that Ryan Braun didn't engage in PED's.
I'm glad that I haven't had to pay for a Boxing or MMA ppv in years, thanks to my handy FTA satellite. I enjoy watching sports of all kind but I will absolutely not pay one dime to watch it. All sports are a business. They operate to make money and for no other reason. I will keep my money where it belongs, in my pockets.
The de facto rivalry with Mexico will always be Puerto Rico. I keep seeing a total of three Cuban fighters mentioned and that is supposed to make a rivalry against Mexico??? When Cuban's regularly go to Mexico and fight there or vice versa then it can be called a rivalry. There was even a mini documentary on Espn Deportes on Mexico vs. P.R.
Santa Cruz - Mares would be a fight for the ages. Santa Cruz is still relatively green but I feel he would give Mares hell and then some. At the moment I would go with Mares but I can see a tie or close decision for either of them. It could become the next great featherweight trilogy.
I agree with the majority that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will go broke or will have to downgrade his lifestyle in the future. I am going to go on a limb and say that no one on this site has seen the 30 for 30 "Broke" on Espn. The amount of athletes that go penniless is outstanding. I truly don't understand why these athletes don't stay in school and educate themselves. His monthly living expenses must be through the roof. All his houses must maintain insurance, maintenance fees, electricity fees and taxes every year. He has his normal expenses of food, car insurance, car maintenance and so forth. If he does happen to keep all his money in just one account then he must not have a good financial adviser. The FDIC will only insure a certain amount in each account. I don't know his bills but I do know that to maintain a lavish lifestyle, you need to earn a healthy wage.
I don't know what this has to do with boxing but I guess it's just another video to start a racial argument. I am Mexican and that is cowardly behavior by the people in that video.
Marcos Maidana is a class act boxer. He takes his craft seriously and gives it 100% all the time. As with all athletes, he has his limitations but by no means is he a gate keeper or club fighter. He is at that A-/B+ level. I wish he would have stayed at 140 a bit longer but I guess his body had out grown that division. At 147 he is still someone that you have to reckon with. Just my two cents.
Hall Of Fame, you must really dislike Canelo. The majority of people have responded that he is Top 50 but for the most part no one is putting him in the top 10 or 15. I agree that his resume at this point in his career is a bit light. You do have to take into account that he is only 22 years old. I personally would rank him about 25 at the highest, that would be a generous ranking. I wouldn't be upset with a 30-50 ranking.
I would definitely want to see a Garcia vs. Khan rematch before a Khan vs. Mayweather fight and that is if Khan gets past Alexander. I really don't see why so many people hate Khan. He is an Olympic pedigree boxer who puts on entertaining fight for the most part. He's has proven he can fight with the competition at junior lightweight. Yeah he got stopped in five against Garcia but up until he caught he was boxing very smart. Khan was jabbing and mixing in a flurry every so often. He got caught but I do think he can defeat Garcia if he can stick to boxing and polish up that defense.
