Amir Khan will challenge for Devon Alexander's world welterweight title on December 7 in either Dubai or New York.
Both fighters have agreed to the bout but promoter Richard Schaefer is awaiting confirmation that the Middle East city has the capacity to stage the event.
If not, New York's Barclays Centre will play host to the clash for the IBF strap.
'Both of them want to fight this year,' Schaefer said.
Khan has long called for the fight to be held in Dubai but Alexander has taken more convincing.
The American has won four consecutive fights, including a split decision victory over hard-hitting Lucas Matthysse and a unanimous decision over Marcos Maidana, who brawled with Khan in 2010.
Alexander was last in action against Lee Purdy in May when the Brit retired after the seventh round.
Khan, meanwhile, will make his welterweight debut following his catch-weight victory over Julio Diaz.
He said: 'I do have a lot of fans in the Middle East and especially in the UAE. Maybe he does feel that everyone will be against him if we fight in Dubai. But I can assure it will be a fair fight, obviously. If it happens, it will be a global event.
'They are doing big things in Dubai and UAE and it will be beneficial for all … if we fight in Dubai.'

Alexander knocks him out
That's what I think and I'm a Khan fan. I'm rooting for the Bolton man but Alexander hits hard enough against a guy whos chin has gotten worse. May be 147 will strengthen him but I don't know. I just think can should tell Hunter to stfu and fight his own way. Maybe hitting DA often and hard will have the man break his heart. We've seen it before.
I hope it's in NYC. I can go see it live and Alexander can't blame the Muslims on robbing him after he loses. Although he might say that Khan got a home town decisions since he's an honorary New Yorker now. Lol
The irony in a post about Alexander complaining about a robbery...
Finally, should be a nice fight. Khan is annoying sometimes, but I got him winning this fight. After it would be nice to see him fight Brooke or the winner of Mattyyse/Garcia fight.
This'll be a big career deciding factor for Khan . . . Well I'd imagine so.
I'm goin with the slightly safe but reluctant bet that if Khan can finish the fight on his feet he will get the UD, but if Devon puts him away it's lights out
You're right. Sorry about that; It was a wrong choice of words. What I meant to say was that this fight is a set up for Amir Khan to win a title from the weakest champion of the current titleholders at 147. The reason is because GBP has all but guaranteed Khan that he would the next in line for a bout with Floyd Mayweather if he wins. Golden Boy does not intend for Devon Alexander to win this fight because Amir is the much easier sale to the casual boxing fan for that potential Mayweather showdown.
Plenty of real and hardcore fans would rather see Khan then Devon. Alexander is boring. Imagine him and Floyd fighting..... Omg the grabbing in that fight would be like an MMA fight.

I'm not so sure GB has as much control over who wins fights as it may seem.
Devon is a good opponent for Khan because he doesnt have 1-punch KO power and he is enough of a pedigree to warrant the jump you are speaking of. I dont thin Khan will win tho
i think you may be confused as to what a showcase fight is. Devon is not a showcase type of opponent.

I think Alexander has enough power to wrap Khan up.
Khan literally looked like complete **** in his last fight, i think he has already had too many wars.
If this fight is hosted in Dubai and Khan can just manage to remain on his feet and last the entire 12 rounds, he is almost guaranteed the victory. This is a showcase fight for Amir Khan, so he could challenge Floyd Mayweather, for a title unification bout in May of next year.

Devon ends Khan no matter where the fight is. The first short right hook that Devon lands inside will end the fight. Devon somewhere in the first 6 rounds.
