What would your P4P list look like if this happened?
Surely we all agree that if Canelo somehow wins, beating a smaller guy doesn't propel you to be P4P the best in the sport.
I can imagine Ward's stock going up tenfold if he becomes recognised as the best in the sport
It's easy there is only 1 choice for Number 1 P4P in the world.
Marvilla Martinez...
Has not lost in years, the LEGIT, LINEAL MW champ of the world.
Martinez should be over Ward as he is active and over Pac as he has not been KO'd.
Finally someone speaking sense, I personally have Martinez as 2nd on my list, he'd go to one if Floyd lost. But Marquez would have a great claim if he could beat Bradley.
Ward = Hell No, last legit fight he had was with Froch almost 2 years ago.
What would be interesting is where would Floyd be at this point? If he lost to Canelo. I'd probs have it something like:
Martinez
Marquez
Floyd
Ward
Something along those lines.

Marquez, Ward hasn't even fought, an active boxer should be ranked #1 and assuming Marquez beats Bradley which I don't think will happen he should take #1.
really Marquez is the only one you can make a case for Ward doesn't even have a fight announced , so Floyd loses he drops to #2 until Marquez vs Bradley
No way Canelo jumps to #1
You can make one Klitschko if he beats Povetkin in Moscow, particularly if Marquez loses to Bradley.
Agreed re Canelo but Ward has a date to fight on November 16th, depending upon his slated opponent I think most will elevate him if Floyd gets KO'd.
If Floyd loses, he loses by KO. There's no way you could keep him at #1 after that irrespective of how Marquez does.

If Floyd and Marquez lose I will have to keep Floyd at #1 Ward hasn't beat a credible opponent since Froch Martinez looks past it and Pacquiao still sleeping upper echelon of boxing need to step up Floyd and Marquez are the only one's putting in work

If a good win over Mayweather does not earn Canelo the pfp title it should at least put him in the top 3 or 4 pfp fighters in the world in my opinion.
I don't think anyone's disagreeing with that, but realistically just two wins over a prime Trout and a past prime Mayweather don't put a fighter at #1 imo, Canelo needs more depth to his record.
P4P is not a championship, you don't take it from a guy, and it's passed on etc. Floyd is a smaller fighter, despite the fact he has a belt at 154. Had it been the other way around, ie Canelo being the smaller fighter moving up to challenge Floyd at a higher weight, I would agree because that would be amazing. Even if Canelo wins, you can't say for sure that P4P Canelo is better than Floyd, just because Canelo has that weight advantage which is his only way of winning. Ward wouldn't get credit for Canelo's win, he'd just move up by default given Mayweather was recently defeatedI understand the difference between winning a championship and getting the pfp title. But Canelo has already shown to be an excellent fighter pfp going into the Mayweather fight. Canelo is undefeated and generally considered the best 154 pounder in the world. He will be fighting with the handicap of a catchweight below his ideal weight. If he KOs Mayweather or beats him by a good amount I think that plus what he has already done earn him respect as the best or one of the best pfp fighters in the world.I would rate GGG and Rigo both better fighters pfp than Ward. Many years ago Julio Chavez was generally considered the best pfp fighter in the world and he fought at 140.Pernell Whitaker was the welterweight champ and highly regarded pfp but Chavez was the pfp king to most fans. Whitaker defended his welterweight title against Chavez at a catchweight of 145 giving Whitaker the same 5 pound advantage that Canelo will have over Floyd. The fight was a draw but most people thought Whitaker won. From that point on Whitaker was generally considered the best pfp fighter in the world. That fact that he was a bit bigger than Chavez did not change that. If Canelo was a middleweight I would agree that beating Mayweather would not make him the best but this fight is between a 147 pounder and a possibly somewhat drained 152 pounder. If a good win over Mayweather does not earn Canelo the pfp title it should at least put him in the top 3 or 4 pfp fighters in the world in my opinion.
HBO knows that but I think it can be bigger. It's risky to let fights marinate but this is one that probably will.
GGG needs to prove him self against world class competition first (something that Ward has done repeatedly). You don't get a shot at the champ without beating some more accomplished fighters.
