Idk if it's the hardest punch ever, and that can't be known. BUT, hardest punch I've ever seen landed while watching a fight live - Sergio Martinez KO Paul Williams
Because as Roger Mayweather said, "Most people don't know shxt about boxing"
Haney outlanded or tied with Lomachenko in 7 of the 12 rounds.
That's enough to win.
The only OBJECTIVE criteria, the stats say that there's an argument for Devin as the winner.
People's SUBJECTIVE criterias say "Lomachenko won 10 rounds" and other shxt like that.
Fine, but that's YOUR OPINION, but the numbers say it was a CLOSE FIGHT that could've gone either way
You know, we could actually solve this problem. If we created 4 different systems we could randomly select people who were willing to judge. Run a bunch of trials and see how often their opinions match the objective criteria. We could see how often they agreed on the winner, agreed on the loser, or disagreed on either/both. That would tell us the best system and compare how reliable subjective vs objective criteria are and how to balance them.
I'll be damned that's an interesting study
The simplest fix is to let them fight until one says they can't any longer
I think that's a really interesting idea. I love the savagery of the sport, but being human recognize its toll. I'd support something like this if there was a way to protect boxers and their families long term. Like how my father paid union dues and ended up with pensions and life insurances that, frankly, he didn't know shit about. Some lawyer should be obliged to protect them and if they do that....shit, I agree, let them fight that out!! :boxing:
Haha, that's nuts. Just believe the woman outright blindly? I know a lot of boxers have **** personalities outside of boxing, but you should still have DUE PROCESS in the system. I can't stand women who as stated above, they don't get their way and decide to tarnish a man for life. Happens waaaaaay too many times and since we always take the woman's word for it, men have their lives destroyed with very little evidence or proof from the women (oh and her friends don't count).
I understand perhaps holding a dude in cuffs or removing him from a situation if a woman accuses him of being violent, at least until the proof comes out. Though it should be a temporary holding with zero charges until all evidence is brought out. Just taking a women's word for it without requiring evidence is wrong. Ever heard of Witch hunts? How many burned at the voices of others just because they didn't like someone?
Most of those witches that got burned were women, no? :boxing:
I understand TS' frustration but my suggestion (to anyone) is to fall back in love with the sport. And to do this you can't focus on the Pros. Go check out a local USABoxing event. You really respect the sport and fighters again when you see two 8yo's trying to knock each others heads off in front of a screaming crowd.
Was going to say exactly this! At the community level, nothing better than boxing. If you have experience in the sport, coaching or mentoring is also great. Or volunteer to be an official
To be fair, it's also more feasible to build a resume like that when you are an absolutely incredible talent. I wish more guys pushed themselves as much as we all do, but I don't expect it to this extent for other champs, either. This guy is special.
I’m an American who wants Fury to win
I like his fighting style more
not a fan of sluggers who are only about that 1 big shot
Sums it up for me right here. I love the sport of boxing, the art and sweet science of boxing. Tyson Fury boxes. Wilder can 1-2 and that's about it. Thus, I want to see more of Fury than I do of Wilder. Simple.
I'm fine with pretty much any scenario that leads to undisputed as long as nobody has to ignore legal contracts to do so.
But, since it was a thing earlier this year I just wonder why those same fans aren't still trying to make undisputed happen with Usyk and whoever wins October 9th.
As you said, I'm fine with pushing for unification at all costs that don't break a contract. Not because I love contracts, but because trying to get around a contract will only create more nonsense. This batch of heavyweights, they're all in their 30s. We need the fights to happen. I'd be fine with a Joshua/Usyk rematch while the winner of Fury/Wilder fought Whyte, if that avoids arbitration nonsense, fine. But, realistically, Usyk should get the winner of Fury/Wilder out right and we should get a unification fight. Joshua, Whyte, and Wilder can fight for the right to challenge the champ. As can everyone else. We'd have a champ, folks, an undisputed heavyweight champ - and that's a big deal!
Nicely written, I'd prefer he go for unification before the rematch. AJ needs a soft touch to get his mojo back, to feel what it is to go for the kill again. In the meantime, Usyk deserves an opportunity to do something truly remarkable which would be to unify both the cruiserweight AND heavyweight division and be undisputed champ of both. He's 34, he has gone into peoples' backyards to win, he's a special boxer and I want to see him have the opportunity to do something special
Do I think he will? No. Do I think he can? Sure. Do I think it's likely? No. It would surprise me, but not shock me, if Pacquiao found a way to win
I take it back, I NOW give Manny a 0% chance of beating Spence August 21, 2021

How is this even a question? Khan never won lineal title, he never won a title in a second weight class, and he got knocked out 4 times including by Danny Garcia himself.
This is an objective, well thought out response that demonstrates a clear answer - DSG. But even if you ignore all this, guys - Khan is a walking punchline. I mean, his knockouts were highlight quality and AJ did poke his wife and I'm sorry but it's just tough to come back from that...
Remember when Margarito was at 147? Granted, a liar and cheater, but do you remember how scary that man was at welterweight? He fought Clottey, Paul Williams, Cotto, and that sweet beatdown by Mosley. I don't think any of these guys (Pac excluded, obviously) would go near that boogieman back then.
Point is, it's hard to say how strong it is, because they just haven't fought one another. It might be the greatest WW division ever, but we'd never know
That's a pretty decent local fight card you have. Cassius Chaney going up against Shawndell Winters. Winters has a decent win against Teslenko and was doing ok against Parker before he was stopped.
Yeah man and general admission so I'll get there early and be front row
Can anyone recall a fighter in recent memory with a weirder career than Andrade? I can't recall another fighter who, forget beltholders or top ranked guys, can't even secure fights with well-known B or C levels fighters (current or former). I mean really, you're telling me Andrade couldn't get a dance with David Lemieux, Curtis Stevens, Gary O'Sullivan, freaking Gabe Rosado who will fight anyone anywhere, Martin Murray, Matthew Macklin and on and on and on. All these guys at middleweight all these years. It's like riding a real bad cold streak, eventually you get laid by accident and get back on track but not this guy! I feel as though there's just no true barometer as to what he's got.
That said, and for all else aside it's a unification fight, they should be fighting, end of story in my book. Make em fight! I want to see it
Manny hasn't fought a guy with at least this height and reach since Margarito in 2010, 11 years ago at age 31, in his prime. Even then I remember him saying Margarito's problem was a power. Spence is a better boxer than Margarito with a strong, stiff jab and controls distance well. He will be tougher to break down for that reason. Spence is younger now than Margarito was then.
I think it's reasonable to say Spence is the logical favorite for a reason, but that is precisely why Pacquiao deserves credit for taking the fight. He is clearly the underdog and if he wins it'll be very impressive. If he loses, more power to him for taking the challenge.
Picking Spence by TKO, but I'd be hyped if Manny beat him
I remember being in my dorm junior year of college watching Sergio Martinez separate Paul Williams from planet Earth and waking my roommates up, what a shot
My mentor is an internal medicine doc here at our teaching hospital and he was one of the go-to guys for us in the ICU when Covid first hit. What his experience demonstrated, and the evidence really supports, is that this isn't the flu. It's natural course is definitely worse and people can decompensate very quickly. It is a nasty virus, and people should/should have taken it seriously.
But, we also didn't need to give our lives away and I think the over-correction cost us in the long run. In the future, when this happens again (because it will, and with antibiotic resistance only increasingly a problem it will actually become more commonplace) my theory is we will need to provide N95s to vulnerable populations and allow the healthy populations to get exposed and build herd immunity that way. It'll be uglier, and those of us in healthcare will bear the brunt of the burden, but we had to do that anyway.
All in all, I hope people take the simple act of taking the vaccine. I understand the hesitations, but after 3.5billion doses administered worldwide we definitely have as good a sample size as we ever will. IF it hadn't been rushed, the use of mRNA technology would've been celebrated as an incredible achievement because it's actually a brilliant approach to vaccination. Shame, a missed opportunity :(
All fights should be 40/40 winner gets the 20% that is what true prize fighting is about. I truly dislike the politics in boxing a million champions so all the promoters can claim one and the sanctioning bodies can make their fees. Each division should have one belt per body mandatories matter so everyone deserving gets a shot. its that simple. If things don't change boxing will die not because of the sport itself because of the infrastructure around it.
I also like that as a big picture idea. Obviously it's more complex than that, but determining a split with 20% being left on the table in any fight is not a half bad idea
Did Floyd fight Berto like this?
Yes, he sparred a guy who was in way over his head for a fight with Berto who was in way over his head hahahaha
All jokes aside, I'm also not terribly concerned about such a short clip of sparring
I respectfully disagree, I think he should fight him again immediately. He's a fighter, and fighters should fight. It's a bout for undisputed and unification and if you want the glory you have to risk your guts.
They should be interviewed after a controversial card. Have them questioned on why/how they produced such a strange card.
I like this - they should be part of the press conference or something
I walked into a gym in The Bronx when I was 19 and sparred for a few years. Probably sparred somewhere in the 100 rounds range. Used to run with and spar the guys training for NYC Golden Gloves, and a few pros also. Lou Del Valle trained me, before he went off to Vegas to train Badou Jack. Then I moved to Connecticut and the gyms here are sparse.
Trying to find a place near Hartford. Boxing has given me so much, I could use it back in my life and I'm only 30 so I'm young enough and in good enough shape to still do some sparring. Actually, a classmate of mine also used to box but he just had a kid and has me by ~100 pounds so sparring him was tough. Hoping to just work on some defense and light sparring again, maybe with some kids on the come-up - who knows? My career isn't conducive to showing up covered in bruises but also...screw what people think
