First of all do you think that perhaps Crawford and Spence are both a bit of the ole eyetest? For me they're maybe just that touch above say an Ugas, a Porter I wouldn't even say a level or a cut above. They're just that little fraction better.
I'm not mentioning Manny because its a given he has great success in any era and holds his own when compared to anyone and Floyds long retired so lets exclude them both please.
Spence, Porter, Ugas, Crawford, whoever else you want to throw in from WW -
How would they compare to lets just say that mid 80s American boxer-puncher era that was full of very tall, rangy, hard hitting and extremely fundamentally sound WWs? They wasn't these 5'6 & a whisker WWs with 69" reaches these were a good 5'10 and fought like it.
Just extremely well schooled basics. Beautiful crisp punches that looked effortless, sharpness which I really do not see today, much at all actually.
I am talking guys like Mark Breland, Donald Curry, Marlon Starling, Milton McCrory throw in a few underrated Brits from this era in Colin Jones and Lloyd Honeyghan
Maybe also Simon Brown and whoever I've missed.
How would they fare in this horribly underrated era largely ruled with this classic American style?
Does Spence compete with guys who are just as big and have better fundamentals than himself? Can Porter have decent success or would it be Porter vs Brook 2 all over again? What about Crawford and the likes?
This ERA of boxing in general is good...however it is NOT GREAT!
Only active Welterweight that is "GREAT" is Pacman. Spence, Crawford...while both are really good, I don't see All Time Greats not even close to that, hell I don't even think they're the most Talented in this current ERA. Boots Ennis is already physically more talented than those guys.
In agreeance with this especially the latter.
I think that kids a very special talent. I honestly think that kids so good he is ready for them all right now.
This might not age well but when I see him I see shades of a prime RJJ. We need to see him get chin-checked and taken deep but skills, ability that is never in question.
Ray was "shot", but I think that version of him could still compete today at 154.
compete a bit sure but he was there for the taking if they press him.
But anyways original point is just that was common through the late 90s that mid 30s was shot for a boxer. Talking overall trends here. Not talking one offs like a moore or foreman and talking about how common it is for late 30s to early 40s fighters to still be on top of a division these days. sometime in the early 2000s is when this really changed.
leonard was only 35 then and he was shot. people forget that 35 used to be ancient for boxers. now its common to still be at the high level at that age. beterbiev is 35 and on top of 175. floyd was 38 and retired as welter champion. pac 42, ect ect
the peds these days are what have made it so common for boxers to be 35+ and still on top of the young guys.

Yeah. Like he beat Bradley, got horrible robbery over Kotelnik, and also got a gift over Matthysse..all 3 fights before he...you know....won every round clearly against "prime Maidana".
Maidana became a different fighter with Robert Garcia and Alex Ariza.
Kinda like how Terry Norris beat the hell out of old Sugar Ray Leonard.

We'll find out soon on Aug 21 Errol vs manny
if today's best WW beats a 42 year old bad, it says this era good enough

It is very strong. It’s just divided. Then through in the divas and it makes matchmaking awfully hard
They do fight each other
Thurman has fought porter and pac and Garcia
pac fought Thurman and about to fight spence
Spence has fought Garcia, porter and about to fight pac
Porter has fought Garcia, spence and Thurman
Garcia has fought porter, Spence, Thurman
Only crawfish doesn't fight anyone
The top WW's like Crawford-Spence-Thurman, they haven't fought each other.
The only decent match-up was Thurman-D.Garcia and Porter had already taken a loss to Brook back in 2014.
Crawford might be good, it’s difficult to say. Overall this crop of welters is a disappointment. So afraid to fight, not afraid of an asz kicking but afraid of losing that ‘0’.

A lot of boxers can win rounds over maidana
But maidana can win the fight with one good punch
Seeing a featherweight Gamboa rock crawfords world.....
Crawford could win every round until maidana lands one
Clottey wanted none of Pacquiao he stayed in his shell for a reason, the way Pac shut him down IMO is worse then getting TKOed.
You're not wrong
Clottey will have to live with it for the rest of his life
Tbh with his chin, he could've hung in there with Pac
Maybe make it close
Get a rematch or at least get another big fight
That fight ruined his career imo
Everyone who beat clottey barely beat clottey
even prime pac didn't beat down clottey
Clottey is one of those guys that are so good to just barely lose
Pretty much a taller, bigger more polished porter in that regard
Clottey wanted none of Pacquiao he stayed in his shell for a reason, the way Pac shut him down IMO is worse then getting TKOed.
Devon Alexander probably beats Crawford too
Yeah. Like he beat Bradley, got horrible robbery over Kotelnik, and also got a gift over Matthysse..all 3 fights before he...you know....won every round clearly against "prime Maidana".
Corrales was a super featherweight/lightweight bro.
Floyd fought him at 130.
Castillo fights with Corrales was at 135.
Was not talking about weight. Was talking in terms of achievements and likelihood of level. They both had about the same number of world title wins and aura when both were undefeated at the same time.
prime maidana also beat as most saw or even a draw with your beloved TBE.... styles makes fight!
If I were a fan of Floyd I would be bigging up Maidana, not shitting on his late career win.
Maybe Clottey would try if he faced Floyd
Floyd doesnt HURT guys
Floyd had pop at 130-135
I think the problem is his hands
Who was he fighting when he took a count because he hurt his hand?
My brain is slipping.
It was Floyd's 1st knockdown
He clocked some dude and hurt his hand
He took a knee
