When is the last time a P4P #1 looked to fight 4 times during the year, possibly 5 times in 12 months?? Thank the WBC for awarding such a gem as the mandatory!
I hope he bounces back. The #1 thing and I'm sure Reynoso can see it, is he has to learn to cut the ring off better. AJ2 and Parker fight laid a good blueprint for how to beat him, assuming his opponent is a solid boxer.
Ruiz should be able to tear apart plodders and brawlers no problem, but vs athletic stick and move fighters he needs to find a way inside on them. Hopefully some weight loss and coaching can get him there.
He fulfilled his obligation to fight the mandatory challenger for the WBC.
He did this just two months after beating an undefeated champion and two months prior to facing another one.
If this had been his Cinco de Mayo matchup I could understand the hate.
I think it raised his popularity and he is much better known now. Winning the direct rematch sounds great when you hear it. When you go back and watch the 2 fights it will look worse than just hearing people talk about it.
I think that Loss will overshadow the win with time because the AJ in the rematch looked scared to death. Ruiz gave him a nice gift by being too slow and not letting his hands go.
I think the fear he showed in the rematch will continue to be there and he will end up losing quite a few more fights before he's done. He looks like he's done fighting in the pocket, therefore done going for knockouts, but I hope I'm wrong.
Still waiting to hear what all his issues were before 1st fight, and if they are legit yes it will be easy to say that's why I got a beating, but not so easy to mentally recover from that beating.
It was UNDER 9.5 and the result was under. He thought his runner laid the 400k down for him. Even more impressive. Carried him to 10th and finished him in 1 minute with 30bseconds to spare
You guys are saying what you think you know. It was not over 9.5 rounds and that bet would have lost if he did. It ended at 1:55
Remaining in the 10th round. Rounds are 3 minutes so it was Under 9.5.
He attempted to lay a lot of cash and also had runners as well as a friend bet on him. It was UNDER 9.5 rounds and cashed. His runner got maybe 50k down on the bet.
Yeah your right about Floyd flipping that switch in the 10th and ending him. The start of the 10th round does not mean it went 10 rounds, maybe that the confusion. The 10th round has to end for it to hit 10. Therefore it was under 10 and only 1 minute into the 10th round, and therefore also under 9.5.
Yes sir
He was refused at the wicket and then it broke that someone close to Mayweather had placed a wager ( coincidentally the same wager as Floyd had in mind )
The bet was for the fight to go over 9.5 rounds
No need to justify it , just go back and watch the 10th round
He could of done that in the first fughin round
You should go back and watch the fight, it finished in under 9.5 rounds, which was also what Floyd had a runner bet on. They did not accept a 400k bet though, I believe he got 10% of that down. It finished at 1:55 left in the 10th, so naturally that is UNDER 9.5 by only 25 seconds though!
With HBO out of the picture, I actually prefer The Sky Sports crew. AJ/Ruiz 1 and AJ/Klitschko are fantastic. I'm in the states so rarely do I get to hear them but love their enthusiasm
Or, you can KO/TKO them within the first 27 minutes. That’s a greater victory and shows you’re indeed the better fighter that night. No questions asked.
To continuously KO/TKO your opponent one after the other is a greater form of victory than to “decision” them one after the other.
To KO/TKO your opponent is also much more difficult to achieve than to decision than them.
This thread is hard to respond to as it seems to bounce around. Enough KOs come from flukey type punches that there's no way you can always say that a KO is fighter better with no questions asked.
To be a fighter that has 80% or more of wins coming by KO I would start to agree that is a dominant fighter.
With heavyweights I dont agree a TKO is always more difficult than a decision. Lucky punches again will come into play at times.
Is it more difficult for let's say Wilder to bide his time and land his bomb, which I do believe he is highly skilled at, or were his 12 round fights much more difficult as that right hand failed to land. Fury was debatable draw but that was tougher on Wilder than his 1 and 2nd round KOs.
If I'm a fan and got a $75 ppv I'd not want to see a 1-3rd round KO vs a good 12 round fight
Because he was Mike Tyson. It's an opinion question....how is there a wrong answer? I love Tyson fights, but that's because I can watch the 5 min match for free. Knockouts are exciting but do not always prove the best fighter
Yeah, I meant with it looking like the tatoo had just been done in the pic, all the red around it. That the pic was from a week or so after his tatoo . which i would agree he prob got early 20s
I'd say Ruiz JR could pressure him enough to take away some of his power. Also seeing him eat a massive right hand from Joshua right after he got up from the brutal combo. I would put money on Ruiz eating one if not more and possibly staying on his feet.
America take sports so serious in their schools you're saying it's not a possibility that coaches are giving some of them something? So many American kids are ridiculously big, sorry but it's just not natural when compared with the rest of the world.
To add to this, I think you can look into the different parts of the country these strong and fast athletes come from. I live in the Midwest, Iowa, where we have corn fed Cows. Produce big strong American football linemen and linebackers but very few near the speed of say California or Florida.
These areas do not have vast cornfields and pastures for cattle to graze. They pump their beef full of Hormones to get them to grow faster and bigger as oppose to the Midwest natural approach. They have faster athletes but also higher populations. I do believe some of that could be passed through the livestock but IDK.
My uncle from California loves steaks and grilling and when he comes to Iowa he loads up on steak because the flavor is so much more natural.
This got way off topic but I do think young adults in the U.S. are exposed to steroids, I just think some areas of the country are at a higher rate and not always on purpose.
Yeah, I feel like Robles is a stand up guy. I don't think he is worried about what he says to keep his job. I think he does not speak badly about his fighter to the mob of press
I imagine one on one he ripped Andy's ass afterwards. There is an article on here with an interview from Andy's matchmaker with Top Rank and he said Ruiz was always easy come easy go fight to fight sometimes seeming like he rather build houses with his dad then box. Has skills but doesn't have the drive to be the best. **** happens and to each their own.
Feel like Robles deserved more respect from Ruiz who could have tried harder.
Itmight be legit. Or close to as his arms did look bigger. But the way they like to play mind games, I think they might have added weight to him. Weights in pants or shoes perhaps. Has everyone talking about it haha. Who knows. 24 hours to go!
Legal but rarely used. And typically it’s 16’ - 20’ 9o% of the time
I don’t know for sure if it’s legal in all states? Maybe that was why fight was staged there???
Yeah with the saudi prince hosting, as well as keeping the ring afterwards, just maybe 24'x24' fit his man cave better. They must have went 18' at MSG so AJ could get his US debut highlight knockout....man that backfired!
I'm not sure why he is saying he needs to let his hands go, I'm pretty sure the ref held them behind his back that 1st fight. It was terrible, he jumped in between without a clinch and Parkee throwing and then warned him lol
Firing Robles is done in the hope that it will change Andy's fortunes. It won't. Ruiz is Ruiz whether he is 230lbs or 280 lbs. If you stand in front of him and trade he has a chance to beat you. If you can box and move he doesn't.
All this out of shape talk is bull****. Did Ruiz Jr gas out in that fight? No he didn't. He just got outboxed and outfoxed by a Joshua who had learned the hard way how to beat Andy Ruiz Jr.
He could be 40lbs lighter but it doesn't change his fundamental quality. He is a fighter and not a boxer. You have to stand in front of him for him to be effective.
Changing trainers doesn't change this simple reality. Haymon must be seething that all those belts slipped through his fingers.
I really disagree with Ruiz being a fighter not a boxer. He's a counter puncher for christ sake. His knock out ratio is also fairly low especially for a "fighter." He is much more a boxer than anything, just not a long distance run around like chicken **** boxer.
He may not have said he was done, but he knew he was done. He wanted out although never said it. I'm not a fan or hater of him.
Is everyone do quick to forget the end of the 3rd when the ref gave the champ the benefitof the doubt? Asked him to walk forward and Joshua never budged. If that was mid round he may have waved it off then!
"Manny Robles caught a TOUGH break. Being a boxing trainer is the most THANKLESS job in all of sports. Robles was in line to be Trainer of the Year in 2019. He put together a great game plan and performance to score the 2nd biggest upset in heavyweight history on SHORT NOTICE vs Anthony Joshua. A few months later his fighter gets out of shape and unfocused and he loses his job. What a darn shame!"
This is why I can't and refuse to root for Andy Ruiz. Another man was fired because he's fat, lazy, and full of excuses. I mean even Wilder at least kept his team and all they did was save his life practically.
The only trainer that felt deserved firing recently was John David Jackson when he was on speed dial with Andre Ward playing Kovalov like a fool while getting PAID $$$$ to be a snake.
I wish people in general could stop insulting boxers. To constantly say Ruiz Is fat and lazy and whatever else they throw in is just childish. Ruiz is far from lazy inside that ring on fight night. That was all said before the 1st fight as well.
Ruiz never once blamed Robles and after 2nd fight I thought he had to change trainers as he needs someone he connects better with.
Many were blown away that Fury dropped Ben Davidson after their success and then look how they all claim him a genius now!
