I don't understand for the life of me how an individual can be outboxed every single round but end a fight with just one punch? Is this just a horrible era of HWs? Is Wilder the hardest puncher of all time? Or do HWs in this generation lack chins?

That's like me asking my wife, "did I gain weight? Or did my shirts shrink?" The answer is obvious.
not from a healthy Deontay.
remember Deontay was 208 lbs against Fury. that was a 60/40 KO. most refs would've waived that fight off seeing Fury flat on his back at the count of 5.
at 218-220 lb Deontay puts everyone in history out if he lands flush.
Was he really 208? I don't remember
Wow, even more confident that Fury gets blasted:boxing:
Is there any heavyweight in history that you think would be able to take Wilder's one shot punch?
Foreman? maybe not to sure i remember him eating massive bombs from Holyfield and just kept coming forward.
I'd say Ruiz JR could pressure him enough to take away some of his power. Also seeing him eat a massive right hand from Joshua right after he got up from the brutal combo. I would put money on Ruiz eating one if not more and possibly staying on his feet.

Lewis, Holyfield and Tyson have all said that whilst they were better skilled boxers than Wilder, they would not have been surprised if they legit got knocked out cold by Wilder, they have seen his power up close and it's legit. Haye and Wlad have said the same.
All these guys either make Wilder look terrible for most of teh 12 rounds and win or they get brutally stopped, Wilder is not a fighter that warrants deep analysing. Against world class HW's or even simply ones who are more skilled than him, he will lose a lot of rounds, but there is a legit chance he wins by Brutal KO.
Say what you wan't about Wilder but you dismiss his power or his ability to land clean on the target, excellent HW because of his power and patience.
Wilder hits maybe as hard as any heavyweight that has ever fought. It pains me to say it since he’s such a piss poor excuse for a boxer but with his power he has a punchers chance against any heavyweight in any era. He also has to have lost more rounds than any heavyweight champion in history. But that right hand. Jesus...
Fair enough. But could you honestly see him one shotting Evander Holyfield? I just seem to think that he has way too much heart, toughness and determination
Yes even Evander Holyfield. He takes shots flush.
Wilder would land one of those ugly convulsing KO's on Holyfield where he goes down with his head bent to one side and legs kicking in the air like how he did that russian dude.
Yeah...... I'm pretty sure Wilder would not one punch a fighter like Vitali.
he would imo.
When he goes down. he goes down hard. he's been 1 shot KOed in kickboxing.
Its a little premature to talk about Wilder KOing a great fighter
People are you serious? Wilder has not been challenged enough in any aspect to suspect his power is in a league by itself. A lot of defensive skills involve how to deal with power, people talking like Wilder has KO'ed a great fighter...come on people!
Wilder does have power, but hes also in a field with limited ability. Fury took his best shots, lets not forget.

its a couple of things Sheldon: Lets look at Frazier when he fought Foreman. Frazier, despite being outgunned, out pivoted, etc spent every once of deliberation on attacking Foreman. There is a reason for that. To offset power the power puncher has to be pressured... Allowing a puncher no pressure, or following a puncher, are bad adjustments to not make when fighting a puncher.
It appears the judges were not going to rob Ortiz, if we assume the cards they delivered were the cards that would have been used in a decision, but Ortiz was fighting the absolute wrong fight. YOu cannot let a dangerous puncher like Wilder set and punch. YOu have to break his base, make sure he is tied up and otherwise make it so when he uncorks, he is not set with his weight forward.
Wilder gets away with a lot imo because we don't really have a good pressure fighter in the division. Fury beat him convincingly and still got caught because he did not pressure him and stayed in front of wilder.
But it's like we're living in an era where no HWs have chins. Hell, in the 90's we had Tua, Tyson, Holyfield, Mercer..etc who could walk through anything.
Bert Cooper knocked down both holyfield AND mercer.
Wilder hasn't fought anyone known for having a great chin. McCall fought into his 50s without ever getting rocked or dropped so its not a given that he couldn't.
McCall hasn't been hit by Wilder. Even previously hyped fighters like Tyson and Lennox do not compare to Wilder's power. They are more accumulation punchers with better technique. They land more often. Sometimes 2X 3X more than Wilder.
Yet Wilder just needs 1. His punching power is on a level all his own.
Oliver McCall wouldn't take that punch.

The body builder already got exposed, Wilder is a horrible boxer but his power bails him out because it's a garbage HW era. Ortiz is decent but he's over 40 yrs old! Fury is the only decent HW, but he has pillow fists, he made Wilder look foolish and if he had decent power he would've taken Wilder out way before Wilder got to land his big shot. Any of the top 90s HW would KO wilder before he gets to land his hail mary game changer.
Name a few names

Ortiz isn't a guy who just gets knocked out. He really isn't a guy who loses fights.... He's a master. A chess player with two Sledge hammers of his own. Wilder deserves credit for twice withstanding and knocking out an all time HW talent
