What if after the Floyd fight Conor stuck around Boxing? He'd be fighting in the middle-weight to super-middle divisions.

We train in an MMA gym and my boys spar MMArtist all the time. 1 commonality I see in their boxing vs. a true boxer is their inability to fight off the back foot, they get very tired moving back and typically throw 1 punch worth meaning at a time. I knew all Floyd had to do was walk McG down with little to worry about Offensively.
I dont think Floyd took $ though for him to survive 10 though. I think McG lasted 10 because he was awkward, big, & team Mayweather had very little to go by in preparation. The only thing I think they knew for certain was to push him back and tire him out.
You seriously think that if Mayweather went hell for leather in Round 1 that McGregor would have survived the first round?
If McGregor could really hang as a welterweight boxer he'd be lining up to fight Pacquiao or Spence for another absurd payday, not a guy on a two fight TKO losing streak in UFC for 3 million bucks.
That's just basic common sense. That alone should tell you how seriously Mayweather was taking that fight.
As they would in boxing too if the stars weren't so often matched against inferior competitors. I mean look at the last couple guys Fury was matched up with.
You still have the Jon Jones and Khabibs which makes their dominance even more impressive.
I mean look at who Conor faced in his return after his layoff Khabib the most domiant fighter in the UFC at that point (aside from Jon Jones), compared to who a guy like Tyson faced in Peter Mcneely as his grand return fight.
In the UFC at least stars rarely ever get tune-up fights.
You’re absolutely right. I also love Tyson, but he will always be overrated in ring to me. I know all the fights at the PPV level are tough fights in mma. There’s no “tune ups” with sum unknown fighter like boxing. But also a top mma guy fighting beneath them isn’t usually worth the risk. Khabib doesn’t have a flashy style but the draw is that he’s undefeated, and people want to see what it takes to overcome him. If he had a couple losses, even early ones, he wouldn’t be that intriguing. But Jones and Khabib being undefeated is more of a boxing scenario than an mma one.
I appreciate the parity in mma, but that’s also why it’s hard to build big stars. A couple wins in a row at the top is a big deal, but everyone loses soon enough usually. I picked Cejudo to beat Mighty Mouse in the rematch mostly just based on that the champ was due to lose for example. Mma fighters have to watch all sorts of kicks, punches, takedowns, jumping moves, and guys get caught looking/flinching to the wrong attack and they get caught clean often. Also when they go down, even if it’s a flash or partially on balance the other guy jumps on him with hammerfists, which can be the quick end. Don’t slip on a banana peel. Imagine if AJ got to hammerfist Ruiz after he dropped him? I think sum mma guys fall in love with their “boxing” and even claim they will switch sports. But it’s different enough as a whole that it doesn’t translate like they think. Even Fedor would have had to make huge changes.

I'll take your word for it, since i cant sit through that "event" again lol. I seem to remember David Haye doing a similar bet when he fought Audley. Anyway, i think McGregor is human garbage, but hed probably be a decent mid level boxer if thats what hed done, hes pretty athletic. Luckily, its the MMA guys who gotta put up with him.
I hear you
The fight could have ended after 15 sec with a counter left hook from Money when conor walked up to him like some ninja.
Conor should walk into any random dublin boxing gym. Challenge their best amateur light weight and I guarantee you that 90% will beat the **** out of him and the remaining 10% will give him his money worth.
Well there is threads and posts , on this site and other sites about the gambling thing
I didn’t just make it up
Also , having seen Floyd fight quite often , even live , my belief is he was toying with him
Now I recall the wager being the fight would last over 9.5 rounds
Watch the fight again and see what happens in that 10th round
It’s a totally different Floyd which makes me believe that he could of done that any fughin round
Check it out , I’m sure you’ll notice the difference

It was UNDER 9.5 and the result was under. He thought his runner laid the 400k down for him. Even more impressive. Carried him to 10th and finished him in 1 minute with 30bseconds to spare
We hear alot of stories, but most of it is unverifiable. Like i say, nobody in their right mind thought McGregor could do much, but he fought a 10 round fight in hes debut. I think if he had the usual 15 fights domestic title shot ect bring along hed probably be half decent.

You do know that Floyd had a huge wager that the fight would go over 9.5 rounds
He carried him so he could win his wager
If I’m not mistaken , Floyd was refused to bet on himself , so he had a friend put in the wager
When that 10th round started , you saw a totally different Floyd from the previous rounds

No, there was definitely an adjustment. Floyd got touched up some, got countered from distance and then turned it up by walking McGregor down and getting close to him. Maybe it is YOU that doesn't watch any boxing.
Floyd casually walked around with his hands down the entire fight. He was, at no point, threatened in any way and at no point taking it seriously.
There was no adjustment.
There was Floyd carrying him rounds and making it look good so people didn't feel robbed for their overpriced gong show PPV.

If you don't think Floyd needed rounds to get comfortable and find McGregor's rhythm, then I don't know what to tell you. Conor IS a talented counter puncher and his shots come from different angles than Floyd was used to of seeing. He realized that when he was sitting back in distance, Conor was able to get some shots off and effectively counter Floyd....So he made the adjustment and started to walk him down. After that it was only a matter of time until he got him out of there.

Do you even watch boxing?
Floyd treated that like a dad sparring with his 14 year old son.
There were multiple times where Floyd instinctively started to throw a counter, and visibly restrained himself even though McGregor was just dangling his chin in the air.
Floyd didn't have to get hit once in that fight. He could have peppered him 50 punches to 0 in the first round and gotten a stoppage if he felt like it.

Yeah your right about Floyd flipping that switch in the 10th and ending him. The start of the 10th round does not mean it went 10 rounds, maybe that the confusion. The 10th round has to end for it to hit 10. Therefore it was under 10 and only 1 minute into the 10th round, and therefore also under 9.5.
You should go back and watch the fight, it finished in under 9.5 rounds, which was also what Floyd had a runner bet on. They did not accept a 400k bet though, I believe he got 10% of that down. It finished at 1:55 left in the 10th, so naturally that is UNDER 9.5 by only 25 seconds though!
I didn’t go and check the exact reason but I remember that he was refused and had someone from his entourage go place the wager
I always thought it was over 9.5
Which made sense also cause it finished at 1:55 of the 10th
Wtv the case may be , Floyd carried him or should I say did wtv he wanted with Conor
Everything Floyd does is very calculated and thought out
Many people thinking for him
Yes sir
He was refused at the wicket and then it broke that someone close to Mayweather had placed a wager ( coincidentally the same wager as Floyd had in mind )
The bet was for the fight to go over 9.5 rounds
No need to justify it , just go back and watch the 10th round
He could of done that in the first fughin round
