Great post man. Agreed. Just enjoy the sport for what it is. Criticism is the essence of negativity. Who cares what people think. Folks are going to b*tch and moan about any and everything. It doesn't matter, when the bell rings for Round 1, those that were griping about whoever the fighter is, will have their eyes glued on the TV set or cheering in the nosebleeds.
Lets take a guy, good for boxing. Exciting, good style, great chin, power, one of the best at cutting off the ring to press the action, and make him into one of the "tarnished bad guy cheats" because of hard work, because he's never failed a drug test, because he's some monster (hasn't KO'd his last two opponents, last KO 2016), and because we just have to label him something because "everyone" takes steroids now a days.
Freakin Please. Grasp at straws more please
When you talk noise about being TBE, then never fighting a ATG in their prime, it tends to upset folks. Floyd definitely has the skills to have become one of TBE but dared to be truly great. The man has the defense of Whitaker, speed of Leonard, the IQ of Ali/Hopkins, and enough power to keep you honest (see Oscar and Mosely fight, two iron chins). However, all that talk, all those attributes, but his mouth, unfortunately was his greatest weapon.
I honestly do not think the Tarver that fought Roy shows up to any of his fights anymore. The last really good performance was the 2nd Johnson fight and that's been a few years now. Can't really say the 3rd Jones fight because Roy was scared shitless. His last fight was Ok, but a mismatch.
Woods UD
Personally I'm not jealous concerning Mayweather. He has made a ton of money bringing fans to watch his dominating performances. Good for him he's one of the most gifted and skilled since a prime Jones Jr. and SRL.
However, the "hate" factor is the Bullshit of all this Money talk. Flashy, Flashy crap is WAY to boyant. Throwing money into the camera so all of us hopefuls that watch that load, can dream of making the money he does, is immature. Sure, it's ok to be proud of the living you make for being number 1, but Floyd does it in a manner that mocking. He wants you (all of us) to be jealous of himself.
You post a thread about us being jealous of Floyd but you cant see the fact that, that's what he wants us (everyone) to be jealous of his lifestyle. Where are the true champions who are willing to face anyone who posied a challenge? Aaron Pryor, SRL, Ali, Morrales, SSM. Sadly money is the god of boxing and all of us drink it down to worship those who flash it.
Mayweather has exceptional boxing skills. I have to admit, if you do not like to watch him in the ring, you need your head checked. But to hear that flow of money talk come from his mouth is utterly pathetic.
I can't believe how noticably deminished he looks now. Usually punching over the 100's in every round to now the 70's. Not to mention the clean punches landed in the 100's percentage very much out weighs the 70's. I guess i'm trying to say his accuacy has gone down too.
He used to be very fun to watch. Now i'm not so excited to see him.

YOu're the BOMB my friend. Looks excellent! Good looking out brother!
Old Timers: SRL, Aaron Pryor, Foreman, Pernell (Master!), Hagler, Julian Jackson, Roy JJ (in his prime, I put him in Old timers cause he aint the same guy)
Now-a-days: Marquez Bros., Cotto, Vic, Wlad, Pac, J. Gonzales
SSDD (Same shit different day) Same way Baldo and DLH lost. Floyd makes you miss alot, pop shots, gets you tired, then takes over in the mid to late rounds. This Point of View is not coming from left field, it's right in front of our faces. Guarenteed
Pryor was way too fast for him. Could take a hell of a shot, and threw more combos then Ricky does by far. I dont think Aaron would let Ricky esablish any kind of rythem, and even if he did, it was because Pryor was taking the round off. Pryor TKO by Ricky's corner throwing in the towel.
In almost every big fight that Foreman had commentated, He actually predicted who the winner would be and by the end of the first round, he would tell you "how" the winner was going to win. He is the more intelligent of the lot, Manny a close second. In terms of exciting tho, Lamps got the cake.
If you're gonna talk shit, stay in there and trade. If you think you're the bigger bad ass and wanna open that Cock Holster...Slug it out and see who's the bigger man. Sure, roll your shoulders, duck, feint, dodge, parry, whatever...but stay in there and see who's the bigger man. It's kinda like on a video game, RPG or Fighter game, and someone sees a weakness or there's no way out of a certain move, and the opponent does it over and over. Now you lost, but in a very BS way. Sure, they have the tactic to beat you, but it's mondo lame. In other words, damn he's freakin good, but a let down in some ways.
Yeah, I see the fight the same way. Taylor will throw meaningless jabs and will be Gun Shy. Once he gets a taste of that right hand again, he'll put on his track shoes and try to survive. I still think Taylor could beat everyone at 160 except for Pavlik.
no.
well it is hard to measure since there is so little footage of robinson @ 147, hardly any of greb...not enough of fighters like canzoneri, armstrong, walker, pep, etc...
as far as from fighters with more footage, i am more impressed with duran at his lightweight peak and leonard at his welterweight peak.
Well said. I still think Robinson would take it. But not enough evidence.
He wasn't great. But good for sure. In some of his fights he never came close to losing a single round. His KO percentage is one of the highest if not the highest in HW history. He was beating an out of shape LL but LL none the less. The average person dont care if LL was out of shape or not, LL is a name and THE name to beat. After Lennox's retirement he was viewed to take over as the next dominate HW and I think that's why folks over rate him. He beat up alot of B and C rated fighters but those B and C rated fighters would blow any of us out of the water in 1 or 2 rounds.
Bottom line. VK was good, not great, but could have been dominate but I think Thread Stealer says it best "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda"
