I remember hating Floyd because i didn't see what was so great about him in the limited fights i had seen. But after routing for Ndou and losing then routing for Chop Chop and losing i started to come around. put in the two clinically astounding fights against bruslses and gatti and i was almost won over. Shit i even remember want sharmba to defeat mayweather thinking he is a little to slow to catch him... I'm usually not a fan of the favorites but with pbf moving up fighting bigger guys and great clinical showing i was one over... hatton will be a somewhat hard fight:dance:
for me Floyds always been up there but it wasnt until he beat Corrales that i started to really like him as a boxer!!! His opinions arent always the best but he speaks his mind and backs what he says!!! Gatti floyd was an awesome display of boxing!!!
but both had the WBC belt which Mayweather collects them and consider them " The championship belt."
Thats fine. He can say he was the champ at 140 and 147, but one thing he cant say is that he beat the BEST at both of those weight classes.
Like i said. Baldomir might have been the lineal champ at 147, but he definitely was NOT the BEST at 147. That's why i say that i cant give Floyd credit for saying he dominated and beat the best at 147. Nor can i give him credit for saying that he dominated and beat the best at 140, when Gatti CLEARLY wasnt the BEST at 140.

well Baldomir have the WBC title same as Oscar, Gatti, Genro Hernadiz and if you notice something in the DHL fight is that he shows off with the WBC belts.
so for Mayweather he consider having the WBC belt is enough for him to fight him.
as for Clottey you alway saying he was beating Baldomir in the Judges card, well he got DQ so he lost even if he schooled Baldomir he still lost. that what important nobody remebers if people who schooled somebody and then got KOed they only remeber the winners.

any fighter Maywather fight other will say he was ducking another person.
one example when he was fighting Zab many people said he should be fight Baldomir and there is an interview with Brain Kenny ( i think his name is this) from ESPN said the same but once he fighting Baldomir people said he should be fighting Margarito which Mayweather got problems with Arum and left him for some reason. But it looks Arum is using Mayweather's name to hypen his fighters.
All fighters in that weightclass call out Mayweather simply because he is the best possiable fighter around there weightclass.
At the time, i would have to say that Hatton was the best at 140. Its debatable who was the best at 147 because of all the prospects there, but for damn sure it wasnt Baldomir. I have Margarito, Cintron, Mosley, and maybe Paul Williams beating Baldomir at 147. Dont think Cotto was at 147 at the time of that fight (i might be wrong). Clottey was beating Baldomir and up on all the judges cards up until he was dq'd for the headbutt.
v cotto and mosely is intruiging, i think fmj beats williams, cintron and margarito though.

fair comment, who in your opinion was best 140/147

I've already said that i give him his due from what he did early on in his career. I just find it hard to give the so-called pfp#1 fighter in the world credit for beating the likes of: Gatti and Baldomir, then have him say that he dominated and beat the best at 140 and 147. We all know for damn sure that Gatti was NOT the best at 140 at the time, and Baldo was NOT the best at 147. Yes they were the current title holders, but they were NOT the best.

regardless of how long ago it was it still shows you how talented this guy is i mean you tell me how many fighters win a wbc title a year after turning pro and then collect the damn things like trinkets thru 5 weight classes over the next decade

Theres more to boxing than just hit without being hit. Its also about imposing your will on your opponent and breaking him down mentally and physically. If it were just about hitting without being hit, every fighter would just go in and connect a few b.s punches, then run around the ring to avoid getting hit.
yeah but not all could do it. and imposing you will to you opponent happen before entering the ring. The person who prepares well for the fight and traines the hardest and longest as well as the smartest usally wins the fight. People are trained to do certain stuff and it not smart to go there and knowing you oppenet pros and trying to out pro him.
Imagine Margarito will try to box when is by nature is a pressure fighter.
Part of boxing is using you brains and people who think like that usally end up retirment place or loss the fight. one example id Gerald McCluman the G-man the person with an iron chin and devaste power, he had a mentalitiy saying he will fight anyone and anywhere look at him now. Does his fan stand by him will he ever regain part of his body to go on at least like a normal person?
Gatti?, Bruseles?, old man Mitchell? Shame on you to mention those names as major accomplishments by Floyd.
As far as Baldo and Hoya. Clottey was whooping Baldo's ass before he got Dq'd for the headbutt. Secondly, everyone would have to agree with me that Felix Sturm made better work of Delahoya than Floyd did.
No one said major accomplishments, I just said that Floyd isn't a all defense, no offense fighter, and listed those fights as examples.
Clottey did not have Baldomir even close to KO'd, so he, in effect, just won all the rounds, like Floyd did.
Sturm is a natural 160 pounder... Mayweather is a natural 140 pounder...
Sturm fought a De La Hoya who moved up, Mayweather fought a De La Hoya who was moving down. There is a reason Sturm did better work on Oscar. You know that.

sturm was a big strong middleweight, bigger than oscar. not a great comparison
And that was HOW LONG AGO? I dont take anything away from Floyd from what he did at the lighter weights. Its the current Floyd that i personally dont like. If moving up in weight is going to affect your performance, and turn u into a 1 and done type of fighter, then dont move up. If there was ever a time when Floyd had the right to run his mouth the way he does, it was when he was actually KO'ing people at the lighter weights.

well and schooling people at WW and super WW too.
as long as he is winning it okay the trash talk is only to psych him for the fight.
People forget part of boxing is to hit without being hit and Mayweather doesnt it perfectly nearly

Did he break Judah down?
How about Sharmba Mitchell?
Gatti?
Bruseles?
Corley?
N'dou?
Now, on the other hand...
Who has broken Carlos Baldomir down?
How about De La Hoya?
Go ahead and tell me Hopkins did, so I can tell you that the light heavyweight fighting at middleweight didn't "break" De La Hoya down, he stopped him a single body shot, with the force of a middleweight body behind it. I doubt any welterweight could stop De La Hoya. You can look at De La Hoya's record at welterweight and tell me I'm right.
You all act like it was incumbent on Floyd to stop two fighters who have almost never been stopped, or else his victory is somehow tainted.

like: despite the detractors who put floyd down as safety first fighter shy of slugging it out in the trenches floyd mayweather jr systematically broke down one hell of a fighter in genaro hernandez a year after turning pro ( most of you wont need me to tell you gh only other loss was to oscar). floyd runs his mouth off alot which i hate in a fighter but over the last decade he has backed that talk up, which i like.
