If Turki and Dana kill boxing it will be one fight event at a time, but it won't happen in one fight event and it won't be because of fighter A beating or walking through fighter B
He has retired about 5 times already. He did, but you could argue that Pacquaio vs Marquez 4 was the best fight of recent-ish times. Nash out - His Majesty
All true my friend, but nothing that would justify Usyk giving Fury a third shot imo. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Usyk would fight Fury again if presented with the opportunity, he's even willing to fight DDD again, but there should be no calls for Usyk vs Fury 3. At least not yet.
I think a fighter's peak and the context of late career losses can heavily impact the overall view of his legacy. Ali for example, was very impressive in his prime, but also accomplished unbelievable things when he was past his peak. This made the late career losses almost irrelevant, because there was so much evidence of his greatness.
Roy Jones Jr is a different case, even though he's still rightfully considered an ATG, he was in the running to be looked at SRR's level. His fall from grace was sudden, unexpected and tragic. To make matters worse, upon further reflection of his career, outside of early career wins against Hopkins and Toney, Roy Jones legacy didn't have much in the way of big names to help him boost his legacy further. He was a phenom and considered the best Lightheavyweight during his time, but he didn't fight absolutely everyone the boxing public thought he needed to beat. He moved up to heavyweight and won a title, but didn't build upon that. He came back down to 175lbs and started getting stopped, losing the big fights, etc.
I understand the concern for Usyk's age, but I think the mileage on Fury may be a bigger factor on how this fight plays out. I don't know how Fury will approach this fight (will he box again or will he try to maul Usyk?), regardless, I get the feeling Fury will be unable to keep up with Usyk's pace and will be hurt and dropped at some point again.
Fury may find a way to win, but I see him struggling at some point during the mid to late rounds unless he stops Usyk before the fight gets to that point.
Look at any respectful top 5 or top 3 p4p list and you'll have a decent answer. For me Bud, Inoue, Usyk, Bam Rodriguez, Beterbiev are all names that would be in the conversation.
I don't really know, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. I definitely enjoyed the ride if we're already past the peak of this movement. Boxing definitely needs to find a sustainable path for boxers to fight more often and make these fights accessible to boxing fans.
Itauma and Wardley imo are not experienced enough to be able to beat Usyk. They may have the power to land a lucky shot but that’s it.
Kayabel might be interesting for as long as it lasts. He has power and skill.
IMO Usyk is just too good for all 3. But if I had to pick one, it would be Kayabel.
I agree, below is how I would rank them:
1. Kayabel (most advanced due to exp.)
2. Itauma (most talented imo, but too green)
3. Wardley (I don't think he will ever be a serious threat to Usyk)
Gee, only four pages on this thread!
Where was the uproar for this rehydration clause???
Oh, I think I know why.....
Unbelievable, this is totally the same as the current situation causing the uproar now. Hypocrites
I agree he should fight Hrgovic next, but for slightly different reasons.
I see nothing wrong with AJs opponent selection last year and the fight now with Ngannou. Franklin was an okay fight after back to back losses, he was intended to fight Whyte afterwards but had to face Helenius instead. Not great fights, but at least he was active and winning. The Wallin fight was a real fight though. Even if AJ knew him well, Wallin was coming off a good win against Gassiev, and after Parker upset Wilder and Ngannou embarrassed Fury, fighting Ngannou just made sense.
Now he needs to resume his journey towards the championship and with Fury & Usyk tied up, fighting Hrgovic for the IBF title (or some sort of eliminator/interim/whatever) is the next logical step.
It makes no financial sense for Bud to fight Ennis at 147lbs, it makes absolutely no sense at all for him to fight him at 154lbs. Tzsyu all the way. However, if Crawford does fight at 147lbs again, it should be Ennis.
People criticizing Tszyu are idiots and the main reason fighters should steer clear of social media. Tszyu should be praised for taking on Fondura on short notice and saving the event. He also looked like the significantly better fighter until the cut, and while he could have fought better while being cut, he never stopped trying.
We're going to make extinct fighters that do right by the sport like Tszyu with stupid criticism like this. They're already a rare thing to see in the sport.
I understand the logic for the criticism, but Canelo has already been critiqued for fighting Khan, a smaller fighter. Maybe he doesn't want to repeat that scenario again.
No good excuse for not fighting Benavidez though. Everyone knows that.
Bud should fight Danny Garcia as a stay busy fight at 154 before challenging for the WBO title there or maybe challenge Lara for his middleweight title.
That's an interesting take. I lean more towards a combination of many factors contributing to Fury's poor performance against Ngannou. I do think Fury underestimated him, but I also think he may be on the slide, and Ngannou's strength and power made Fury very uncomfortable.
