There is absolutely no way Proska won any of the last 6 rounds, and I was expecting the usual Mora fighting competitive enough to lose.
I actually thought he (Proksa) won the last round. He was the only one pushing the action.
This was a perfect example of a terribly underrated fighter (Mora) vs. a terribly overrated fighter (Proksa). A truly bum performance from Proksa."peeleft:
I completely agree, it's as if the last round does not count in some peoples eyes. Had there been 13 rounds, maybe Froch had knocked him out in the 13th because he put the pedal to the metal in the last round. It's completely irrelevant when you get knocked out, first or last, if you get knocked out, you have lost. Doesn't matter if you look like Floyd for 11 rounds but then end up being KO'ed in the last second. End of conversation.
SMDH when people give Froch heat for KO'ing Taylor with 14 seconds to go.
No, I give him heat for getting outboxed for most of the fight and getting dropped on his ass by a severely shot 160 pounder.
Bump bump bump
I love going thru these old threads..
Lacy froch seemed to be the fight a lot of people wanted to see
Well, Kessler did beat him and Ward took his manhood away.
Taylor was 10 seconds away from winning the fight and made him kiss the canvas.
Floyd would have 6. Castillo and Maidana already beat him.
Margs, P. Willy, Martinez, Master Pacquiao would have k.o. that bum in less than 8. True story.
Floyd should have lost to Judah, via DQ when Roger invaded the ring in the middle of a round and assaulted Judah; so in your opionion it would be 7.
Many of these fights are too close to call, that's why they never happened.
I thik he would have more than likely lost to a prime (pre-triple knee surgery) Martinez at 154-160 (2007-12). Vernon Forrest would have stood a good chance of beating him as well and a prime lightweight Mosely would have decapitated him.
So Maidana knocked Mayweather's tooth? What else is new...
TBH I was amazed at how Floyd didn't go down from that last shot in the third (or fourth?), it was a perfectly timed counterpunch; the kind that usually sends guys to sleep (see: Pac/PWill).
I'd rather see a Josesito rematch. :thumbsdow
On an honest note, if he isn't gonna fight Cotto he should give Lara a rematch since he arguably lost that fight or fight GGG since he has fought his last two fights at middleweight (155+).
It's 2015 not 2009, Andre Dirrell hasn't been looking good lately and he's fought nothing but cans since the Abraham fight; this is coming a Dirrell fan.
I still think Dirrell would be GGG's biggest challenge to date (if they fight at 168), but this is not the same Dirrell who schooled Froch in his backyard (and got robbed).
I say more like vs cotto
Maidana at least stepped his defense up and uses angles
Maidana is chinny though I see PAC possibly tko
Via body shots
When was the last time Pacquiao stopped someone? How many fights ago was that? This isn't 2009 anymore, Pac has gone 5-6 years and 8 fights w/o knockout, if he couldn't stop Rios then he sure as hell isn't stopping Maidana.
160 sucks. Even 135 is better, which says a lot. Canelo, Lara or Sturm, Quillin, Macklin, Geale lol let me think about it
What makes you think Canelo is such a good fighter? Did the Josesito fight convince you?
its a good division with solid talent, just like any other division.
Canelo
Lara
Charlo x2
Kirkland
Molina
Andrade
Rabchenko
Vanes
Nelson
Cotto
Trout
Angulo
Smith
Clottey
There's some good talent coming up in this division. I wouldn't list Clottey, Smith, Nelson, Vanes, and Rabchenko as top fighters though.
all of the blue custom batch was banned
why is ur boy trying to cheat?
The custom gloves and the stock red gloves are manufactured the same way. That said, commission felt the padding in custom ones was wrong— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) May 3, 2014
Everlast is a very reputable glove manufacturer. I once attended an NAC seminar studying gloves where their padding was very consistent— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) May 3, 2014
list the current living fighters pac or floyd needs to beat to be the NUMERO UNO ATG
These are some good fights and tough styles to beat, if I saw them beat any combination of the Top 3 listed plus one or more of the other two I'd have them in contention. Obviously something ridiculous like beating Andre Ward at 168 and Kovalev at 175 could have also made the list but it is just too unreasonable.
Floyd
1. Sergio Martinez/Golovkin 160
2. Erislandy Lara 154
3. Manny Pacquiao 147
4. Demetrius Andrade 154
5. Timothy Bradley/Shawn Porter 147
Pacquiao
1. Mayweather 147
2. Sergio Martinez/Golovkin 160
3. Erislandy Lara/Canelo 154
4. Juan Manuel Marquez 147
5. Demetrius Andrade 154
NOTE: Mayweather is a bigger win for Pacquiao than Pacquiao is for Mayweather. Mayweather's biggest possible legacy fight would be a Martinez fight for the lineal middleweight title (assuming Sergio looks good against Cotto).
really good list green for that :boxing: i will definitely put them on number one on my list if they follow your list
i have to watch whos demetrius andrade lol
is he new?
Demetrius Andrade is the WBO 154 Junior middleweight titleholder, 6'1 southpaw counterpuncher with fast hands/feet, good punching power and stamina.
In his last fight, he had a good win over Vanes Martirosyan and a dominant shutout performance over Freddy Hernandez before that.
He was a prolific amateur and won Gold at the Chicago World Championships in 2007. I've been following his career for a few years and I think he'll get far.
The only similarity I see is that all four men are pro boxers. Hagler was a much better fighter and a 10 times better champion than ducking, dodging Martinez. Hagler defended his title at least 3 or 4 times a year and always against a top 5 world rated middleweight and often his number one rated challenger. If Hagler was the middleweight champion today and had been champion for as long as Martinez he would have already fought all the high rated middleweights Martinez avoided. Hagler would have fought Strum, Pirog, Geal, Quillin and GGG win, lose or draw. No number one challenger had to wait long or chase Hagler, begging for a fight the way GGG has been trying to get Martinez to fight him. Cotto is nothing special at 154 and he recently lost to Trout who is not as good as Lara or Canelo. Hearns was about 6 inches taller than Cotto and better than Cotto in every way. Hearns was much faster and a much better boxer and puncher than Cotto. Hearns might be the best 154 pounder in history and Cotto is not even a champion today at 154. Martinez should beat Cotto and probably by KO and it should be a good fight between two good fighters. Cotto and Martinez just come up way short in my opinion when you compare them to all time greats Hagler and Hearns.
Most of the guys you're talking about ducked Martinez in the past. Geale and Quillin both got offers from Martinez in 2011 and both declined. Sturm once said in an interview, "I would have fought Martinez, but nobody knows who he is." If Hagler were around today he would have been ducked into extinction and if he would have suffered the same injuries Martinez did (particularly at that age) he would have either taken a layoff (like Martinez did) or retired.
Hagler's resume is impressive (ATG), but he never defended his title 4 times in a year as you claim (that's a bit unrealistic for any top fighter fighting top opposition) and not always against top 5 ranked contenders. In 1985, 1986, 1987, he only defended his title 1 time each year. Duran, Hearns, Mugabi and Leonard had never fought at 160 before facing Hagler (Leonard was coming off a 3 year retirement). Not all the guys Hagler fought were top contenders, 'Caveman' Lee was completely unranked when he fought Hagler and it was really more of a tune-up type fight. Hagler is one of my favorite fighters of all time by the way.
bull.........you take the gloves and put your hand over it and in it (to inspect the overall glove) mayweathers claim is that maidnda had padding missing within his gloves. they complained about it to the commission (the commission checked them) & deemed them as unacceptable............he would have to pick new pair
WRONG! Are you even following the news or just writing out of your ass just because you feel the need to defend Floyd?
Glove issue is not resolved yet but IT IS NOT a commission issue. Fight is GOING TO HAPPEN. Here is what is going on right now:— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) May 3, 2014
The padding in that glove can be moved TMT is arguing to make a punching surface that is more hand and less glove. Both gloves are approved— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) May 3, 2014
of course the red ones.......why should he wear the blue ones when they are dirty.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/boxing/dispute-over-choice-of-gloves-finally-ends--mayweather-maidana-fight-is-a-go-163329449.html
Everlast CEO Neil Morton defended his company's manufacturing process for the boxing gloves and said he believes the dispute was simply a case of Mayweather seeking a psychological edge.
Morton said the custom gloves are manufactured exactly the same way as the stock gloves and the only difference is a different color of leather is used. He said he is willing to cut the gloves open to prove that to anyone who questions the validity. He said he didn't understand why the custom gloves were ruled invalid.
However, it could be that the commission was simply trying to broker a deal and placate Mayweather, given that the stock red gloves had been approved.
"Nothing changes in the process from glove to glove," Morton said.
He said that when a fighter such as Maidana wants to wear Everlast gloves in a custom color, leather is found that most closely approximates the color the fighter wants. He said there is what he calls a tech pack for each model of glove Everlast produces.
That tech pack has the gloves specifications and ensures they're all identical, Morton said.
"The process is very simple," he said. "The athlete says, 'I would like this glove in this color with this artwork on it.' In this case, Maidana wanted to wear an Argentine blue color and I think maybe he wanted them with the flag on it. That, I can't quite remember. But then we put a Pantone color on it, we attach it to our tech pack and we send it to the factor and ask them to produce 6 to 10 pairs of the MX gloves using our tech pack in this Pantone."
Maidana could beat him in a rematch (he arguably beat him already).
Porter has the right style to trouble Floyd.
Andrade and the Charlo twins would have a better chance than most.
Martinez and Lara would beat him.
I think it would be a very competitive fight, much more than people think. I think Cotto has the better jab, superior skillset, and experience. Canelo has the size and the power advantage (not by much), but his feet are slow and his defense is average. I see a close competitive fight 115-113 either way, maybe a MD decision. Cotto might dominate the rounds early but lose the late rounds with Canelo not putting in enough pressure to hurt Cotto too much (neither guy has great stamina).
Canelo is not that good, and it will show against Lara.
I agree with your post.
The bottom part about Canelo not being good I feel isn't true. Even if he were to lose to Lara, that wouldn't make him not good. He's one of the best young fighters in the sport today. :boxing:
Read my post again, I didn't say he wasn't good. He's definitely a good fighter, I just said 'he is not as good' as some people make him out to be. Some people said he could move up to 160 and easily dominate and badly outbox everyone there... :trink26:
And he sure as hell wouldn't KO Cotto in 5 like some here claim.
No he didn't, on top of that your whole argument dies with the fact that Maidana was visibly effected by the jabs to the mid section. That equates to far more than not even having the proper positioning to get full leverage on those body punches, something Castillo did successfully and Miguel Cotto in spots. Not even a close round.
Visibly affected by tapping stretched out jabs? lol.
Maidana's body punches didn't have leverage? He looked like he was working the heavybag in there.
It wasn't even a close round? Okay, I know where your mind is. I'm arguing done with you. You must have thought Floyd pitched a shutout.
maidana had one moment in the entire round when he put floyd on the ropes and landed a tremendous combination. he trapped him on the ropes later on in the round too but failed to land anything of note.
floyd meanwhile controlled about 2min 45sec of the round landing great punches of his own and many more of them.
three body shots and an overhand right doesnt win a round when the other guy puts in work like floyd did.
So Floyd controlled the 2min 45sec of the round by staying on the ropes for 2min 45sec of the round and throwing 20 punches... while continuously getting hit by left hooks to the body and head and a hammer right hand Maidana kept landing on top of Floyd's head.
I like this fight, it would be Golovkin's biggest name fighter by far and would add some credibility to his career.
Golovkin's team will probably try to drain Kessler down to 165 since Mikkel publicly said he was willing to do a catchweight (bad idea to concede that this early). Even w/o a catchweight I wouldn't put money on Kessler, he's way too open for the right hand and has zero head movement (fights like a robot), if Golovkin drops him the way Green did, he'll definitely finish him. That's assuming Golovkin is truly as good as he appears to be.
Yup, all on the ropes....
That video is retarded, both guys landed more than shown in the video (I can tell just by rewatching the round that Maidana landed a lot more punches around Mayweather's guard) and if those are Mayweather's best punches in the round, he definitely didn't win it. Half the punches Mayweather landed in the video either didn't land hard or are grazing punches. lol.
This isn't amateur boxing either, where a grazing jab counts the same as a left hook to the liver or a right hook to the head. Maidana was also clearly dictating the pace of the round forcing Mayweather on the ropes, lowering his output and making him fight his fight.
Maidana didn't win the second round, not really in the mood to educate someone, even streaming it I clearly saw Mayweather win it. He even ended the round with a straight right hand that the uploader didn't count. Maidana didn't do much of anything to warrant him winning the second round or even the 12th.
Mayweather didn't dictate the pace of the fight, he hardly threw a punch all round, yeah he landed two half decent right hands, but that doesn't win you the rounds. Maidana landed the harder shots with hooks to the head and liver (watch the fight in slow motion and you'll see Maidana was contantly getting around Mayweather's guard), and forced Mayweather to fight his fight. Maidana won the round, that's my opinion. If you disagree then good for you.
With all the punches Maidan threw he never hurt Mayweather or shall I say Mayweather was never visibly hurt.:boxing:
I thought there were a couple times where he bucked Floyd. In one instance (3rd round) he hit Floyd hard with a power jab that buckled him to the ropes and followed it with a right hand while Floyd was still a bit stunned. There was another instance (I don't remember the round) where he countered Floyd's right with his own and seemed to buckle Floyd's feet.
