Mikkel Kessler hadn***8217;t even started his pressconference announcing his comeback in Copenhagen the other day, before an interested party had made a call.
According to danish tabloid ekstrabladet, the call to Kessler promotor Sauerland, was from Tom Loefler who promotes Kazakh sensation Gennady Golovkin. Loefler asked if Kessler was ready for a fight in Las Vegas against Golovkin in July.
The thought of Kessler fighting in July was immidiately shot down as the dane needs 4 to 6 months to get into fighting shape.
Kalle Sauerland:
***8220;To make such a big fight as a minimum, you***8217;ve got to know whether television is interested. HBO is crazy about Golovkin and Viasat would of course show such a fight to the danish audience. This would be a treat to the danish fans and to fans around the world. This is definitely something we will work on.***8221;
Ekstrabladet believes that Loefler will be asked to pay 4 million dollars for Kessler to face knock-out monster Golovkin in Las Vegas.
***8220;Of course I cannot comment on specific numbers when we are not even in a negotiating stage, but it will be expensive to lure Kessler to America. Much more expensive than having the Viking Warrior fight in Denmark***8221; Sauerland says.
At the pressconference, Mikkel Kessler told lionheart-boxing.dk that he***8217;d be happy to face Golovkin and that even at a catchweight
I'll be willing to take any bet that GGG doesn't knock Kessler out - If the fight is made at 168.
No way.
Okay. (if the fight happens of course) You name the purse amount, terms and sig it. Let's do a progressive bet. One based on knockout and one just for the 'W'. Deal?
I just don't think he's big enough to kick it with Kessler.
You may be right, if we are discussing a prime Kessler. But, as you know, he's not what he used to be.
Fight could happen in Denmark
GGG lives in Germany and he's been building his international fanbase.
It would have to to happen IMO... not enough money to bring him over here

because he can make the same money fighting cans in copenhagen and he doesnt seem to be interested in challenging himself anymore unless the pay is bananas. GGG dont bring that kind of money and kessler aint willing to get knocked out for small figures.
if the fight happens i will gladly admit im wrong and give kessler props for stepping up, but i just dont see it happening. his match ups with top guys are few and far in between, he just fought froch so i reckon we are in for 2-3 years of boudala type opposition for the "great" dane.
I happened to be at the presser the other day where Kessler clearly said he wasn't going to fight any 'cans'. He's coming back to become champion and he mentioned Ward, Froch, Groves and GGG as the only options for him.
I think it's quite clear Kessler has never ducked anyone, and I don't think he would start now.
Why wouldn't he?

Geale probably would be a tougher fight than Kessler at this point but you can't blame Golovkin for wanting Kessler. Its a bigger name and brings in a lot more money.
missed whatever Kessler's announcement was
thought he was gonna retire, glad he didn't
still not buying GGG jumping to SMW and being the same guy
don't doubt that a rusty, aging Kessler can beat him
that's an action fight, good proving ground for both guys
hope they do this
Kessler isn't a killer these days.. He's a big punching bag and mentally he's not looking for glory anymore just a paycheck.
lol wtf.
This is too dumb to even respond to.
Unfortunately I had to.
I like this fight, it would be Golovkin's biggest name fighter by far and would add some credibility to his career.
Golovkin's team will probably try to drain Kessler down to 165 since Mikkel publicly said he was willing to do a catchweight (bad idea to concede that this early). Even w/o a catchweight I wouldn't put money on Kessler, he's way too open for the right hand and has zero head movement (fights like a robot), if Golovkin drops him the way Green did, he'll definitely finish him. That's assuming Golovkin is truly as good as he appears to be.
Dawson wanted a catchweight after calling Ward out at 168 and Ward said forget about it. Good. I hate catchweights. Dawson made a dumb decision going to 168 and ruined his career. He has to live with that. Should of just rematched Pascal.
Ward is pampered man, it just is what it is. He has tossed his career away because he wants to call all the shots. Just as Dawson made a bad move, Ward has done the same. His promoter got him every advantage in every single fight and even that wasn't good enough.
4 million and in LV?
Doubt it happens like that.... going to have to go to Denmark for that
Part of me thinks Loeffler might be using Kessler as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Geale, i.e. pretending they have options when really Geale is basically their only option.
Further to the conspiracy :) did K2 have Perez pull out to free up Geale?
Kessler is too far gone... The king of inactivity Ward islooking for a fight and has been calling out GGG... I didnt even think Kessler wanted to fight again. Kessler has been passed it for a little while now. Why not Geale? Or Mora? Kessler at this point is better in name ONLY. Dudes got more than a foot out the door and at a cw? With not too much prep time or a "tune up"? >__>.. Some people will eat anything up and this coming from someone borderline on GGGs nuts..
Its like the people who wanted to see him vs Andy Lee...
