The absolute minimum for either to be even in consideration for ATG #1 is to beat the other AND clean out the MW division (Sergio, GGG, Quillin). But even that probably wouldn't be enough, and I don't know what more either could realistically do.
Ehh, I'd have a hard time placing Floyd number one even if he fought the JMW, middleweight and supemiddle top 5!!
Barring challenging Wladimir Klitschko it's hard to rank Mayweather near the top 10 ATG let alone "TBE"
Couldn't agree more. Floyds whole approach to boxing and ethos just isn't conducive to being no1 ATG. The carefully picking of opponents, fighting so little, and not taking risks with CWs and fighting the Maidanas of this world, whilst his peers, guys he beat like Cotto are fighting the Sergios of this world.
Floyd would have to show us his potential and Floyd doesn't seem to want to as it may risk in being defeated.
Whatever anyone says about Pac on the other hand, he is more of a candidate as he has done things no one has done before, and that puts you in the equation.
list the current living fighters pac or floyd needs to beat to be the NUMERO UNO ATG
example:
floyd
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
then retire

I'm not sure if there's anything either can do right now to be the best ever. It's easier for Pacquiao to be in contention though because he already has the scalp of the 3 best guys to fight below lightweight in JMM, Barrera and Morales and not just iwns but in some cases, absolutely dominant wins. Then there are names like Bradley, Cotto, Hatton and Oscar, again, all dominant wins and many pounds above what we thought would be his best weight.
For Mayweather it's tougher because there are so many "what ifs" in his career and I can't think of a single defining win or a win where he looked physically dominant against a prime, great champion.
This is what I'd like to see from Mayweather:
1. Martinez for the MW crown
2. Come back down to 147 and take on Pacman
3. Defend his title at LMW at the correct 154lb limit against a legitimate challenger
4. Possibly a defence of the MW crown against GGG
After all that and especially if he makes it look easy against some of those guys, then he'd have an argument for an absolute top 20, possibly top 10 great.
For Pacquiao:
1. Win a title at 154 against the winner of Canelo/Lara
2. Beat Mayweather
3. Beat any of the young dogs in Thurman/Porter/Danny Garcia
Retirement, that's enough for Pac to be top 15, taking into account his previous accomplishments, I already think of him as a top 20 or top 25 ATG. Winning the MW crown off Martinez/GGG makes him a sure fire top 10.
Manny Pacquiao
1. Adrien Broner (I just want to see this fight)
2. Keith Thurman
3. Danny Garcia
4. Mikey Garcia
5. Ruslan Provodnikov
6. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
good list
danny doe i dont think he would help mannys legacy
he lost to herrera, his all gbp hype for me
Demetrius Andrade is the WBO 154 Junior middleweight titleholder, 6'1 southpaw counterpuncher with fast hands/feet, good punching power and stamina.
In his last fight, he had a good win over Vanes Martirosyan and a dominant shutout performance over Freddy Hernandez before that.
He was a prolific amateur and won Gold at the Chicago World Championships in 2007. I've been following his career for a few years and I think he'll get far.
wow good speed and reflex
will definitely watch out
thanks

These are some good fights and tough styles to beat, if I saw them beat any combination of the Top 3 listed plus one or more of the other two I'd have them in contention. Obviously something ridiculous like beating Andre Ward at 168 and Kovalev could have also made the list but it is just too unreasonable.
Floyd
1. Sergio Martinez/Golovkin 160
2. Erislandy Lara 154
3. Manny Pacquiao 147
4. Demetrius Andrade 154
5. Timothy Bradly/Shawn Porter 147

NOTE: Mayweather is a bigger win for Pacquiao than Pacquiao is for Mayweather. Mayweather's biggest possible legacy fight would be a Martinez fight for the lineal middleweight title (assuming Sergio looks good against Cotto).
I don't think it's possible.
so no one around their weight could give them a good boost?
prime bradley boosted pac step closer right? i dunno where though
