It's obvious that thos fighters aren't as masterfully skilled as Vitali. What has to be understood here is that a great little man always loses to a great big man barring some freak occurance.

too much emphasis put on sheer size

Louis was taller, bigger and stronger than Byrd

Louis may not have had that kind of upper body movement, but just like Byrd, he would have been able to get to that chin, but causing a whole lot more damage
So in your opinion, Vitali had problems with Byrd before getting injured? Winning 8 out of 9 rounds isn't trouble. Plus, Louis was 25 lbs lighter than Byrd and wasn't as good defensively. Louis would've gotten smashed and you know it.

im not saying louis isn't a better conventional boxer-puncher, because he is, however, that "drone" style would play right into vitali's hands. . . vitali's unorthodox style would prevail over the technically sound guy who tries to come in with 1-2's, throws the quintessential 1-2-hook-2, and relies on an overhand right as his money punch. . . carnera possessed a FRACTION of the ring intelligence, awareness, mastering of distance, and ability to use head and upper body movement to lure your opponent in only to lean back out of their range. . .
Great post! Put well and easy to understand. Anyone who disagrees with this either lacks intelligence, is trolling, doesn't understand boxing or all of the above. (Yes, that's you jabs)

I agree, you know little about boxing if you really think that anyone prior to the very best, good sized heavyweights such as Ali, Holmes and Lennox Lewis could have dealt with Vitali well enough to actually win rounds against him.

This is a bit of an odd one to try to predict. Huge size and reach advantage to Vitali, but Louis was a much better (though flatfooted) puncher with a large offensive arsenal. Wladimir is actually a worse stylistic match-up for Louis of the two.

I agree with everything but the bolded part. It's been proven that Wladimir folds to pressure fighters while Vitali has never lost to one.
