    Memory lane:

Anyone else remember when threads talking about Ronda Rousey crippling prime Mike Tyson in a street fight were a thing at this forum?

Not even if they have Top UFC Fighter superpowers?

The idea that any boxer has much of a chance against the most dominant MMA fighter of all time (who also happens to have Tyson Fury reach and is a psycho) in a no rules fight is just silly. He'd most likely choke them out inside a minute.
Think about that, and think about how long it would take a young Mike Tyson to leap in and start landing punches on JJ.

And remember that, as soon as the first punch lands, JJ is toast.

Mike Tyson would get folded in half in less than 30 seconds by Jon Jones. The second he is even in any kind of range to where Jon Jones can put his hands on him he's taking his arm off and taking it home to put on his mantelpiece.

Jon Jones could literally hold Mike Tyson down and rape him and Mike Tyson could do nothing in his power to stop it.
You can replace Tyson with Ali and the same applies. Honestly both of them together still have no chance. Jon Jones is insanely creative and violent within the rules...imagine him with no rules.

But why are they MMA fighters, rather than boxers, given that top boxers make so much more money than top MMA fighters? Talent follows the money.

This is a massive oversimplification of how things work, and not really accurate. Talent also follows what is popular, what is accessible, whats given exposure growing up, what society gives the most prestige to etc etc. How many young kids are seriously looking up fighter salaries in each sport as a method of deciding what ****ing gym they go to really? they will do what they think is cool for the most part.

Also a very simple answer to "why are they MMA fighters rather than boxers" is that most of them came from a background other than boxing. Its a weird question to ask honestly, why would a high level collegiate wrestler for example switch to boxing over MMA when the latter is the one that lets them use their skills?

Mike would leap in to a ****ing knee and then probably get front choked like Cyril Gane did lol.

The reality is 90s era MMA HWs like Kerr, Coleman, Igor, Erickson, Randleman etc would beat Mike more often than not. Guys that Jon has dominated with ease would beat Mike.

Honestly if that Bob Sapp/Mike kickboxing fight had materialized in the early 00s I wouldnt have been surprised at all if Bob beat him, even less so if it was MMA rules.

Yeah, I can see it now. It would be just like a Jackie Chan film.
