UFC n mma offically overtakes boxing

That said every sport has a progression towards what works best or just better. And thats what MMA has done & continues to do. The calf kicks that guys are throwing a lot more lately with great effect are proof that the sport is still improving slowly but surely.
I think the game has less grappling then its ever had. And there seem to be fewer "lay n pray" type guys than ever. With the 50k bonus guys are kinda incentivized to have entertaining fights.
The level of advancement has been ****ing crazy. In the early days you had Royce at like 170ish lbs beating multiple HWs in one night just by taking them down and tapping them easily. Transplant that 1993 Royce into 2021 and i'm not sure theres a single top 20 level guy in his own weight class that he could outgrapple, not only that but he'd have probably the worst striking of any male in the UFC too. Thats evolution.

I agree that the whole "boxing is dead" argument is dumb and has been going since literally before Ali. Boxing will never "die".
The situation with MMA is completely unprecedented though. Boxing was the only game in town until the mid 00s as far as being a mainstream pro combat sport.Comment

Kicking and rolling on the floor is what most people can relate to when it comes to fighting. That's why their fan base is big. It's an extension.
MMA/UFC are like Michael Bay movies. Popular due to all the explosions and noise.Comment

I mean...thats not a bad thing though is it? when we tune into boxing card we wanna see big KOs, blood, firefights and upsets too.
I think the grappling aspect of MMA has actually been an obstacle to its casual appeal as much as a benefit tbh. On the one hand its the main thing that sets MMA apart, on the other its very complicated, slows down the pace of fights and requires an exceptional amount of learning from the viewer to understand it enough to be entertained by it. With striking everyone can get the basic concept, with grappling you need to pretty much understand a positional hierarchy and the possible transitions and submissions from each before it stops looking like gay sex.Comment

Boxing lessons is dirt cheap in the Philippines but nobody is learning how to box, compare to bjj classes which are expensive as **** but their gyms are always full. Thanks to the rise of MMA

Sloppy punches, guys who can't take punches, kicking and rolling on the mat....always ''something'' happening. MMA/UFC has lots that appeals to the everyday guy. Like wrestling.

Cmon....I've seen those punches. You can seen them coming from last week.
And no punch resistance whatsoever.
And once a guy is hurt, it's a slop festival.
And the ref is right there to stop the pounding.
You rarely see a Mercer vs MorrisonComment
