RING Magazine: "Mayweather Doesn't Crack the Top 25 Greatest Ever"

I do not really have any issue with what you say because in the end he could have done more but to me he is still a great fighter. He did beat atleast 4 hall of Fame fighters ( in boxing it is not saying that much) Corrales, JLC, DLH and probably Hatton possibly even Gatti (LOL i know but i think he will get in at some point). If you beat 4 or 5 HOF fighters in dominate fashion for the most part i think that will look impressive going forward
IMO though, after Oscar there were plenty of fights to pick from that would be lucrative & competitive at the same time with guys like Margarito, Mosley, & Cotto. Now I'm not saying he had to fight every one of those guys, but a win over Cotto, Margarito, or Mosley would be huge for Floyd thus cementing him even stronger as an ATG.
Plus, tell me who would not want to see either one of those fights.Comment

maybe i measure it differently to everyone else, i obviously take records into consideration, but i mostly go by talent and hypothetical fights
i genuinely think he's one of the best boxers ever, and the people who he's supposedly ducked wouldnt add much to his legacy anyway...
also doesnt the fact that he's unbeaten count for anything?Comment

at best i would put him somewhere in the 40's area which actually is not a shot at him as its an honor to even be considered that good. unless he decides to comeback which i seriously doubt then he doesnt deserve any higher because his resume just isnt good enough. to be the best you gotta beat the best fighters and thats something floyd mayweather jr didnt do anywhere near enough in his career.Comment

Not when you watched the actual fights, also DLH is a poor example because Floyd beat him. At welter sure Oscar fought all kinds of dudes but loses take away from his career, he basically lost all his biggest fights. He beat Tito and Mosley the second time in my eyes, but in the end he did not get credit for it. Also why are we talking about Oscar i rate Oscar pretty highly i just rate Floyd higher based on how all their fights went.Comment

Like i said i am not really dis*****g what you said, and Floyd could have done more from like 03-05 and retiring early. If he stays retired I do not hold it against him really, I would have held it against him more if he cashed in on DLH the 2nd time then retired but retiring with the Oscar fight on the table (a winnable fight w/o that much risk) means something to me. He did leave fights on the table for sure though, in the end i still find his career very impressive but yes i agree he could have been much more.Comment

Because he reached his prime fighting at WW. His wins at 135-140 were when he was getting recognition, but was still on the come up. Do you really think he peaked at beating Oscar De La Hoya? There's nobody out there that he can have a hell of a fight with?Comment

i would have to look at that and see who everyone has fought. but thats besides the point anyways because even if he has fought more quality opponents than the other welters in their primes right now it doesnt matter because they are in discussion of being top 50 ATG. he should have a better resume than them, im comparing him resume to the greats of all time not to the top welters right now.Comment
