and the universal dislike of Floyd is still strong as he's still around and in the public eye which affects people's judgement of his boxing talent
But top 20? As of right now? I just don't see it.

I think what most of Floyd's hardcore fans are failing to see is that great fighters are always revered according to the fights they've had.
Guys like Leonard, Hagler, & Hearns each had very significant fights that were both lucrative & risky. But win or lose, it defined them as fighters.
Floyd on the other hand is a phenomenal fighter and possibly one of the best fighters in the last 25 years, but he has yet to have a defining fight(s) that could propel him into a dominant position as an ATG or THE greatest. I mentioned in another thread about Rocky Marciano retiring undefeated, but isn't looked at as one of the top Heavyweights of all time simply because he fought older guys way out of their primes.
At the end of the day, you're only as great as your dancing partner lets you be (no pun intended)

What Oscar did above his lower weights is more impressive than Floyd. The caliber of opponents was much better. He won more titles. But of course, since that goes against what you initially said, you have to say its just "alright". But when Floyd does it, its the greatest accomplishment ever.

I do not really have any issue with what you say because in the end he could have done more but to me he is still a great fighter. He did beat atleast 4 hall of Fame fighters ( in boxing it is not saying that much) Corrales, JLC, DLH and probably Hatton possibly even Gatti (LOL i know but i think he will get in at some point). If you beat 4 or 5 HOF fighters in dominate fashion for the most part i think that will look impressive going forward

i genuinely think he's one of the best boxers ever, and the people who he's supposedly ducked wouldnt add much to his legacy anyway...
also doesnt the fact that he's unbeaten count for anything?

What part of i think he is great for more reasons then winning titles in multiple divisions, do you not understand? The starting point for his greatness is being one of the greatest super feather weights of all time. From there he displayed great skill and ability dominating pretty much all his opponents over the weight. You can say he did not clear out division but he was a division climber after 130 and that is special also when you take into account how he did above his original weight.

So??? I told you you did not get my point and you still do not. Do you not understand what after 130 meant, meaning he dominated 130 then climbed divisions and did not spend enough time in any division there after to really dominate them. That does not change the fact that what he did was impressive. Also this was about Floyd so i do not know why your bringing up other fighters randomly.Last edited by The Gambler1981; 08-22-2008, 10:43 AM.
