  • RING Magazine: "Mayweather Doesn't Crack the Top 25 Greatest Ever"

We can almost certainly agree that Mayweather doesn't belong in the top 10, hallowed ground reserved for names like Robinson, Armstrong, Ali, Louis, Pep, Greb, ect. And the opinion here is that for all his remarkable talent, his body of work isn't enough to crack the top 25 either. Looking at that 19-42 range, the upper end just doesn't seem right given the talent pools of the past.

So our final declaration is this: if Mayweather never fights again, he ranks somewhere in the second 25 in boxing history, pound-for-pound, taking into account both his ability and his accomplishment. "Pretty Boy" and his devoted fans may not want be happy to hear it, and the Floyd haters probably won't like it either, but that's where he belongs.

Well he's not far out of it, he's proberbly in my 20-30 althought 15-20 isn't a stretch.

Floyd doesn't deserved to be ranked amongst the best yet. When it has been years that he's retired, I think only then can we rank him with the best. Style wise he is already amongst the best. As far as his resume, that is where the scrutiny lies.

I can't really argue there. Mayweather made his decision to retire young and undefeated while not risking his health so he understood the ramifications of his decision.

If he stuck around and cleaned out WW then he would be IMO. But.... he didn't. Seriously, he was only like 3 or 4 fights away from accomplishing this...

Absolutely, he does not belong in "greatest ever" but he will make it to the HOF. A fighter retiring in his prime with meaningless oponents(besides a 34 yo DLH who almost beat him) does not deserve an ATG spot. He needs to comeback and accomplish, great things, not great money. But im sure mayweather doesent give one bit of a **** being an all time great.

                  Yeah, I agree.

                  You think he'll come back?

I agree. Whilst I often think resumes are over emphasised, and performance under - Mayweather has similar not done enough or fought enough to deserve it. His own choice and fault.
