On the topic of Grebs nationality. Since all I know about Greb is from this one book, it states he is German.

Yea but those clippings stating he was dirty were actually conspirators that didnâÂÂt like him. I know this seems absurd at first, but the press decided if you were well liked or not. Many of the written accounts of his bouts turned out to be false. Take the tunney series, Greb actually beat Tunney about 4 times. But the judging was rigged. He was called dirty throughout the bout but the ref later was almost taken to court about it.

at least thats what this book says, and the author seems to know more about greb than anyone, heâÂÂs the only one to have written a volume on him and to cite all his work.

in fact much of that info you posted is simply not true. Its not a knock on you, its the source you are drawing from. For example, his eye got damaged in the norfolk fight, which is not early on in his career.

and for example Tunney claimed Greb butted him in the first bout, but everyone ringside said it was a punch. Greb was mad about the thing Tunney would lie about.

Why would anyone want that? Whom are you referring to? This belief regarding Tunney existed in 1923? I find that difficult to compute. Why would anyone want to replace a money maker like Dempsey with a LHW.

When Dempsey was all finished, Tunney was next up. Tunney was a very good fighter but also was protected.

if you know the backstory yes. Tunney had rigged judging. All written accounts say Greb was robbed it was a joke. They could do this because it was newspaper judging. The last fight, the 5th one, Tunney did beat him, but Greb had so many injuries from fights and car crashes that help Tunney. Tunney hit his body very hard, but Greb was already healing from a broken rib. He also had his eye gone. So that last fight with Tunney was just as much Grebs decline and Tunneys growth both in size and experience.

on the topic of the robberies, yea go read the newspaper accounts. People were baffled. Greb beat the brakes off of Tunney in the first 2 bouts, and won onesided/ competitive decisions in the next 2, lost the last one.

lets not act like this isnâà‚€Â ™t believable either. The first fight they gave to Greb and it was a terrible beating, some though it may have ended Tunneys career. Tunney showed who he was. But if your face and body is so beat up they have to cut the trunks off of you at the hospital - I donâà‚€Â ™t think its out of the realm of possibility Greb was not washed in 4 fights.

you gotta remember as well, Tunney p4p is one of the greatest, and even underated fighters of all time. He would adjust and style and was very fit and strong. Very mentally tough and sound.

but the first fight wasn’t close. It was a one sided domination where people pitied Tunney for having to take such a beating without knowing what to do.

in the second bout he starts to work on Grebs body. He has some success but largely gets beat up most of the fight.

in the following 2 fights Tunney starts to ramp up the body shots. By the 4th fight Tunney is able to hurt Greb to the body and slow him down. Ringside all said Greb still was out-landing him 2-1 for most of the fight though. Tunney is starting to get stronger though and fill out into a small heavy. He is capable of taking grebs shots. However in the last fight Greb is on his last legs its sad if anything, how he was ducked because they didn’t want a heavyweight champ that weighed 168 lbs.

besides the Gibbons ko and the last Tunney fight, all of Grebs newspaper losses could easily swing in the other direction and probably should have.

WHOA. Post you proof of punch stats. Greb was not out landing Tunney 2-1 in fights 3,4,and 5! Name all five times newspapers viewed Greb as the winner and please provide me the link as proof.
