  • IDK but I always like to call that 'good management,' so long as the money flows. It's prize fighting. Always make the move best for you....

  • There is no doubt they wrote in 'purple prose' about everything during that period, politics, scandals, murders, and of course boxing.

But just to give them a little space, and excuse, those sports writers often had something we don't have, the emotional, edgy, experience of live anticipation...

  • I think (guess) he is being facetious. He has been challenged so many times for not being aggressive enough and accused so often for ducks (advantage timing) that he's probably had enough, so he answers in the extreme, "Yes, I am a coward."

It ends the questioning and he gets...

  • Nah! Fitzsimmons never 'sorted out' Corbett.

Corbett was beating Fitzsimmons into next week until Fitz caught him with his famous Fitzsimmons Shift (solar plexus) punch.

It took Corbett only 20 seconds to regain his breath, ten seconds too late.

    Fitzsimmons was...

  • Does one actually think the the word "prime" was part of 1910 Jeffries' vocabulary? Was the word 'prime' even part of the boxing lexicon back then?

The Wenatchee Daily World was owned by the Brothers Wood, Rufus and Ralph.

It was a Progressive 'Bull Moose' publication...

  • You're as hard as adamant.

    10 to 1 odds. Yeah, that's a bet I might try.

Punching power counts big time in prize fighting. Should I give you a list of fights where it made the difference? I know, you know I don't need to show you that list.

    Ten-to-one! Those are...

  • I heard it was actually Roger that was the trainer.

As Queen, likes to put it, crack-daddy was just there for the money. Maybe I'm wrong.

A big yes to "am I serious," ... but I did say I would need odds because it was a risk!

    You want to make money...

  • I thought Roger was a cagey fighter. Subtle but excellent footwork for positioning. Good at punch blocking with his arms.

He was able to beat everyone except the very top; a gate keeper.

And wasn't he the one who taught Floyd Jr. how to box?...

  • Yeah! Now here's the problem from the other side. We have become such a liberal culture that the youth revolt has to keep getting more extreme.

They have to try harder to upset their parents/society.

It was so much easier for BBs to shock and dismay the GI generation. All it...

Is Ketchel taking your money; making you less powerful, hurting the prize fight game; being used in some form of hate rhetoric; is going to affect us in anyway, tomorrow?

    No! He's not.

So why do you need to deflate his value in other men's eyes?

Are the he/she's that big of a deal? It's just another youth fad. This to shall pass.

Didn't you think your dad silly when he assumed every hippie (long hair) was a communist?

  • I was hanging out one night in Paterson. Ended up at a black nightclub where I had a great night.

    But . . . (it was 1972)

I was sitting with some guys in a small bar downstairs from the main party, drinking some beers (only guys, they were taking a break from their bitches.)...
