Whitaker took the fight to him and beat him at every aspect of the fight. He landed more punches, harder punches and continually had Chavez turning. Honestly, it was an amazing performance and one of boxings worst robberies.

        - - It took Frankie Randell to beat JC Sr pillar to post, and the people cheered.

Pea had some top natural attributes for a fighter, but finishing a fighter he ducked for years after Sr completely wrecked Taylor, well, that's too difficult and not in Pea's DNA. Clowning was his forte that he got away with vs lesser opponents.

End of the day their nose candy finished both, but Sr held on for a swan song. Pea didn't even have that in him.

No, I wasn't making a statement on that fight whatsoever (thats why I noted it as an "aside").

I just hate the premise that when a favorite wins (or draws) a fight by a closer margin than anticipated, that people use that as evidence that he actually lost. A fight is judged by what happens in the ring, not expectations prior to.

Head to head, id probably pick Toney. Hopkins could have had that fight but didn't seem to want it.

Hahaha, you're right, I think that when I read about Hopkins running out the back door when Toney came in the front, Toney might have already been at 168. I don't know, it's a ling time ago and I'm just bs' ing here anyway!

But, at 160-168-175 I'd still take Toney over Hopkins.

                  Thanks.

Lol great minds in the same gutter... I picked Toney as well.

If one is diplomatic... people tend to look at Haggler's resume and names that present as "obscure" and assumptions are made. Those obscure names are some of the toughest SOB's in boxing history. Guys like Antofuermo, Hamani and Hamsho... Hagler, in addition to fighting the best, really had a baseline of no nonsense fighters in one of the toughest divisions in the sport...
