P4P Crawford was better than GGG. But am unsure how he fares this high up in weight- he is going up a lot from his established welterweight.
Luckily, Canelo is older than he was for GGG- not as old as GGG was fir their first fight- but close.LarryMerchant'sBottle likes this.

And thats an interesting point, because just like Fury (with Wilder) Canelo has been through some battles and has taken some shots in his career. Maybe the cumulative wear and tear will have added up for him and Crawford will be the straw to break the Camel's back. I don't think it is the case, but...

Yeah, it was a great era, but do you put it ahead of late 40s?
Ez, Arch, Bivins, Billy Smith, Lloyd Marshall, Harold Johnson emerging, tail end of Gus Lesnevich. I still lean towards that era....Willie Pep 229 likes this.

What am I missing in the '60s welters? Griffith was a stud, Napoles emerges by the end of the decade, and Cokes was good. Seems good but not great, but i'll admit not knowing much else- lemme know who else made it the best....

Thats a good call, I can see that era being better than the early 30s, especially with its depth. Though I would still say late 40s is the top of the heap....

Thats pretty good, I'd agree it definitely at least is runner up, if not top spot. But I think its probably two different eras. The early 80s, with Arguello, Prior, Mancini, etc. And the latter part of the decade with Chavez, Paz, Pea, Haugen, etc. I'd probably lean more towards the late 80s on tha...Willie Pep 229 likes this.

Each Wt Classes Golden Era
Am wondering what were the ‘Golden Era’ for each of the original 8 wt classes? Whatever criteria you want to use, use (topline talent, quality of matches made, etc). Just try to keep the eras contained, I hate that we tend to define the Golden Era for heavyweights as the mid 1960s through...

Depends on what you are ranking by. Byrd's top wins this century are better than Wilder's: Prime Tua, aged Holyfield, and Vitali (even if that win is kinda dubious). Based on that, then yeah he has probably gotta be #1 over the past 25 years.
But I am openly biased in favor of Wilder, as...

First off, let me reiterate that I too view Ketchel as an all time great. That being written, there are some questions I have to your logic.
You wrote, "Stanley Ketchel was an ATG because they said so." this seems to imply that there is no second guessing of previous opinions...Mr Mitts

Its interesting, we have hardly any film on him to judge by. We have the Johnson fight, which was pitting him against the top HW in the world in a fight that wouldn't even be sanctioned any time in the past century. Then we have him wrestling around with a thonged Billy Papke (no cheap shots at Papke...Last edited by DeeMoney; 06-17-2025, 03:07 PM.
