theres too many different reasons but Gerry Cooney- good white heavy weight, clean cut, and came when every good boxer seemed to be black Ray Leanord- had alot of charmisma, looked good, smiled alot, olympic gold metal, clean cut Pernell Whitaker- was painful to watch, too good that it was boring Marvin Hagler- did become popular with boxing majority with a win over Caveman Lee and with the mainstream/casual fans with the Hearns fight but you're right, he was still not widely popular, namely because he didn't have much charisma

you know the first round did it for me but its funny how we all compare other fights to this fight corrales/castillo 1 and ward/gatti1 but this fight is above them in a sense because ward and gatti were c+ fighters and corrales and castillo have yet to prove themselves as all time greats

you know i believe that hamed has still got somethign to prove, consider the man's been out for 4 years, hes fat, ring rusted like a mother, hes gonna be a huge underdog so maybe hes got more motivation this time around. he's kind of like a roy jones in the sense all the things he has done inside the ring, the unorthodox fighting style, flashines etc., he might actually have a different style, an effective one he realized he needed to win. naz also reminds me of wilfred benitiz in the sense that for all his greatness and accomplishments he never seriously trained and with the memory of MAB slammin him in a turnbuckle maybe he'll finally get his act together and train and live up to what ppl said he was all along Naz also did something great for boxing though, for all the crap he's pulled throughout the years the ego maniac hes been he did two great things for boxing (well one the other is up for debate) 1. alot of ppl years ago wondered if there was even goign to be a featherweight division, but that all changed with Naz, he made ppl want to look at the feathers and brought the attention back to the feathers, without him i would be hard pressed to believe there would be so much pandamonium for the feathers as there is today, 2. he gave credibility to the WBO strap, love it or leave it, he did, maybe giving credibility to another alphabet title was a bad thing, the fact that he did, would the WBO be still lightly regarded if he didn't come along? would we even recognize soem fighters if they did where the WBO strap? tru joe Calgzahe gives it credibility too but it was started with Naz .....it also helped in lettin ppl not get so worked up over the belts as they once were, we knew he was the best feather in the world out there even if we did hate him or if he didn't have all the trinkets fact remained he was the best regardless of anythign around his waste, so maybe he did 3 good to great things for boxing. its good to see if he can come back, but against an active MAB? i don't know about that one, but it would be interesting to see if he changed up his style and got disciplined and if not hes going out, you can bet on that

i don't understand the point of this fight, tarver is the best light heavy but so what he's still a light heavy, micheal spinks beat holmes and was teh heavyweight champ, tyson is fighting a guy with no HW credentials, tarver is quick and confident but i highly doubt he can hurt tyson. i believe tarver's skill would eat up tyson but untested at HW, can he take tyson's blows? i don't think so, and the fact that he also coasts makes me believe tyson will slip something in and ko him. this might put him back into the public spotlight though, i dont' think it would damage him further than the state hes at so this will only help him no matter the outcome

i like aggressive swarmers like joe frazier and roberto duran who like JC Chavez had very underrated defense defensive genius toney but its hard for him to deal with lateral movement as evidenced by montell griffin and RJ jr.(even though toney had to sweat down and damn near kill himself to make weight you could tell he was frustrated anyways) gotta give it to prime tyson because of that head movement, i dont' think anyone can replicate the combo of head movement, power and speed and i love me those guys that give their all, not very good technically but man their tuff gatti, ward, barkley (talk about warriors) so basically i like aggression even if its pretty calculated like hearns, trinidad, hagler don't like movers SRL, Ali and btw i don't honestly believe that the general public was so fascinated by his skills that made them want to watch him, it was everything else, his charisma, the civil rights stance, the ability to sell himself, all these things i thinked helped make him along with boxing so big, his skills alone would never take him to where we hold him today ti was everything besides the actual fighting itself. can you imagined if he never ryhmed or never dodged the war or never was a black muslim?
