theres too many different reasons but
Gerry Cooney- good white heavy weight, clean cut, and came when every good boxer seemed to be black
Ray Leanord- had alot of charmisma, looked good, smiled alot, olympic gold metal, clean cut
Pernell Whitaker- was painful to watch, too good that it was boring
Marvin Hagler- did become popular with boxing majority with a win over Caveman Lee and with the mainstream/casual fans with the Hearns fight but you're right, he was still not widely popular, namely because he didn't have much charisma
i dont' think we'll ever see him at welter again, i could be wrong but i doubt it"i weigh 172 pounds" lol
theres no shame in losing to tito and dlh, i mean c'mon these are future hall of famers for sure
i was overlly surprised he went down early against dlh, i mean weren't you guys? in the first round?
hes gotten a lil cocky though, i dont' think he thought dlh could hit that hard, i didn't either
i would love to see a match up between him and vargas though, if both of them can pick up some belts, cause mayorga is a lil slower and not as strong as 154 and i think vargas has slowed a little, enough to make this a very interesting match
i don't think mayorga is shot but won't be long until we find out
you know the first round did it for me but its funny how we all
compare other fights to this fight corrales/castillo 1 and
ward/gatti1 but this fight is above them in a sense because
ward and gatti were c+ fighters and corrales and castillo
have yet to prove themselves as all time greats
you know i believe that hamed has still got somethign to prove, consider the man's been out for 4 years, hes fat, ring rusted like a mother, hes gonna be a huge underdog so maybe hes got more motivation this time around.
he's kind of like a roy jones in the sense all the things he has done inside the ring, the unorthodox fighting style, flashines etc., he might actually have a different style, an effective one he realized he needed to win.
naz also reminds me of wilfred benitiz in the sense that for all his greatness and accomplishments he never seriously trained and with the memory of MAB slammin him in a turnbuckle maybe he'll finally get his act together and train and live up to what ppl said he was all along
Naz also did something great for boxing though, for all the crap he's pulled throughout the years the ego maniac hes been he did two great things for boxing (well one the other is up for debate)
1. alot of ppl years ago wondered if there was even goign to be a featherweight division, but that all changed with Naz, he made ppl want to look at the feathers and brought the attention back to the feathers, without him i would be hard pressed to believe there would be so much pandamonium for the feathers as there is today,
2. he gave credibility to the WBO strap, love it or leave it, he did, maybe giving credibility to another alphabet title was a bad thing, the fact that he did, would the WBO be still lightly regarded if he didn't come along? would we even recognize soem fighters if they did where the WBO strap? tru joe Calgzahe gives it credibility too but it was started with Naz
.....it also helped in lettin ppl not get so worked up over the belts as they once were, we knew he was the best feather in the world out there even if we did hate him or if he didn't have all the trinkets fact remained he was the best regardless of anythign around his waste, so maybe he did 3 good to great things for boxing.
its good to see if he can come back, but against an active MAB? i don't know about that one, but it would be interesting to see if he changed up his style and got disciplined and if not hes going out, you can bet on that
russia and cuba are the top amatuer boxing countries, yes they kick our ass in the amatuers
dont' believe em look at the olympic results overall in history, who wins more? not the U.S. Soviet Union or now Russia and Cuba, overall,
you can even look today at all the countries that broke away from the U.S.S.R., they're good, real good
hmm both past their primes fighting at a time where noone is really interested in their careers, mosley at a horrible weight(has he even stopped anyone at 154?, vargas with the new crap style of his( i miss the old go for broke style) but hmmm does this make anyone really want to watch it?
not really but i'll watch anyways just because i like "the old vargas" no this "old vargas" i hope he wins by ko, unlikely secnario but i hope so
a fight for Ruiz here garners no money cause of no fans
Germany = dollars
WBA mandatory
For all his awful fighting "skills" he is a true fighter in the sense he has ducked no one and has challenged everyone, he's not afraid to go to someone's backyard and fight him, oh yeah he got some balls, he just sucks and is boring to watch, however he's tried to be more crowd pleasing as witnessed in the Toney fight but still, he's boring, i don't like his style but you gotta respect the man cause he'll fight anybody, anywhere, he's proven that.
i don't like PBF much but i got respect for him for taking on corrales and castillo twice, you gotta have balls for both.
problem now is that i believe he beat gatti to gain attn. its not uncommon to beat a known low risk fighter.
the problem i had was that he called out winky and didn't really push for a fight with him, uncool and did he really want winky? i don't think so.
would he beat cotto? yes
hatton? toss up cause of the volume punching of hatton
how about margarito? hmmmmm i dont' know about that one margarito is a swarming volume punching fighter whos also naturally bigger, true hasnt' fought the same level but i think margarito could pull it off.
not a bad idea to start of with mitchell first though cant' blame him for it.
calling out DLH but on terms fo 47? i don't think so, especially since DLH inked at 54 with mayorga, winky's in 60, and i believe he'll stay at 54, cause no one else is there except vargas and maybe finally unify for fist time, and take on vargas
prognosis: i know PBF gets past mitchell and probably gets passed judah as well, then i think he ducks margarito cause lets face it, i love this mexican, but hes got no name recognition, so he'll move up to 54 for his first bout with DLH, problem is DLH has been at that weight for a long time and up to 60 with hopkins and it would be PBF first time at 54 and DLH will sit on his punches more and probably gets a late tko over PBF. eh but what do i know, it would be interesting though
he got KTFO though, aint nobody dissin him, he lost we speakin on it we aint dissin you just amd coz your boy lost
you idiot, KTFO is reserved for a brutal assault, a vicious knockout, that was no vicious knockout, he just got stop but by your way of thinking Pacman himself got ktfo when he was stopped by Singsurat right? nope dumbass, he just got stopped
mad coz my boy lost, you faggot, i was going for Pacman the whole time and me and my ppl were in the middle of a sports bar filled with mexicans, we were the only ones besides two other couples that were cheering for Pac, dumb faggot
one more thing i dont' like to cuss or diss people but don't make assumptions when you dont' know the facts
i just don't like how ppl would quickly degrade EM just to pump up their boy Pacman
who doesn't know Pacman is the shit?
Yet everyone wants to diss EM to help boost the image of Pacman
its not needed Pac=best featherweight/jr lightweight right now
no need to diss EM, hes better than both MAB or JMM
mitchell's a BITCH! there not even big shots and he goes down!
oh really? when you get hit in the liver or the solar plexus you're gonna go down, very rarely do guys continue to stand there even if the shot isn't hard, and especially since mitchell really didn't see it coming so he couldn't really brace for it.
he didn't do that bad i thought, well for someone thats shot, anyways, he had a good going in the first 3 rounds
i don't understand the point of this fight, tarver is the best light heavy but so what he's still a light heavy, micheal spinks beat holmes and was teh heavyweight champ, tyson is fighting a guy with no HW credentials, tarver is quick and confident but i highly doubt he can hurt tyson. i believe tarver's skill would eat up tyson but untested at HW, can he take tyson's blows? i don't think so, and the fact that he also coasts makes me believe tyson will slip something in and ko him. this might put him back into the public spotlight though, i dont' think it would damage him further than the state hes at so this will only help him no matter the outcome
you know whats interesting in the least though is that homles will probably never retire and when he shifts through the ropes ever now so often he actually doesnt do very bad, hell he beat some good guys for being over the hill and shot he beat mercer in 92, survived undisputed champ holyfield and survived oliver mccall who was coming off of a knockout over lennox lewis...
NO, i don't think he'll unify the titles, he might be able to pull a win off of NK though and in the end its his life...
in the U.S. its the principle of equal oppurtunity and this is his oppurtunity to try something, theres far worse fighters out there and most likely holyfield could be damaged beyond repair or even KILLED! but its his choice, his life...
its his business, i'll just might watch not because i want to see him get beat but so he can earn some money, what else does he have to make a living?
i don't think he can beat the top level mma guys like cro cop, fedor, arlovski but who knows tank abbott has had great success in the ufc through just streetfighting/pitfighting tactics
but i don't think tyson can beat everyone in history, you'd be an idiot to believe that
b-hop boxed when he was younger as an amatuer before he got locked up
and as far as boxers coming straight out of prison, there are boxing gyms and prisoners do learn how to box through coaches, they also have tournaments and the like in prison systems so they're not just a bunch of tuff macho dudes who got locked up and learned how to fight like that.
fighting and boxing are two different things
i like aggressive swarmers like joe frazier and roberto duran who like JC Chavez had very underrated defense
defensive genius toney but its hard for him to deal with lateral movement as evidenced by montell griffin and RJ jr.(even though toney had to sweat down and damn near kill himself to make weight you could tell he was frustrated anyways)
gotta give it to prime tyson because of that head movement, i dont' think anyone can replicate the combo of head movement, power and speed
and i love me those guys that give their all, not very good technically but man their tuff gatti, ward, barkley (talk about warriors)
so basically i like aggression even if its pretty calculated like hearns, trinidad, hagler
don't like movers SRL, Ali and btw i don't honestly believe that the general public was so fascinated by his skills that made them want to watch him, it was everything else, his charisma, the civil rights stance, the ability to sell himself, all these things i thinked helped make him along with boxing so big, his skills alone would never take him to where we hold him today ti was everything besides the actual fighting itself. can you imagined if he never ryhmed or never dodged the war or never was a black muslim?
