Naz asked Barrera (at the Hatton fight) if he would fight him next year, Barrera accepted.
It looks like Hamed will be fighting Spadafora in summer 2006 as a warm-up for a Barrera re-match (Spadafora beat PBF in the amateurs, like Augie Sanches beat PBF in the amateurs). I think the plan is for Hamed to fight at 135 despite being a natural 126 so that it will help him with speed against opponents.
i believe that hamed has still got something to prove....
Agreed. Hamed's legacy has been so badly tarnished that his only chance to "prove it" is to beat Barrera by a wide UD or KO. Otherwise, Naz gets a narrow decision win and proves what? He's competitive? The division is so deep now, Naz will then have to do more, despite decisioning Barrera. Good Luck.
Yeah right, Naz and his fat face can't get back down to 135, don't even mention 126. I hope he does try and come back so I can watch him get beat from ring post to ring post.......Welcome back B I A T C H !!
Ambivalent. That's the word.
I could care less if these guys actually meet, because I'm tired of the the "will he" talk.
But, if they do, I wanna' be there to watch Naz's face as he experiences another ass whoopin', Mexican style.
However .... I also figure Spaddy beats him first.
spadafora as a warm-up? naz has no idea what hes talking about.
As i recall, in the build up to the Naz - Barrera show down 2001 they were saying barrera was the warm up for a summer 2001 showdown between Hamed and morales. oh how times change.
barera should fight pacquiao first.. so that they can stop making excuse for the beating he got... delahoya should shut the fucc up about his excuses after every barera win over chumps he fought after the pac fight(except morales)
you know i believe that hamed has still got somethign to prove, consider the man's been out for 4 years, hes fat, ring rusted like a mother, hes gonna be a huge underdog so maybe hes got more motivation this time around.
he's kind of like a roy jones in the sense all the things he has done inside the ring, the unorthodox fighting style, flashines etc., he might actually have a different style, an effective one he realized he needed to win.
naz also reminds me of wilfred benitiz in the sense that for all his greatness and accomplishments he never seriously trained and with the memory of MAB slammin him in a turnbuckle maybe he'll finally get his act together and train and live up to what ppl said he was all along
Naz also did something great for boxing though, for all the crap he's pulled throughout the years the ego maniac hes been he did two great things for boxing (well one the other is up for debate)
1. alot of ppl years ago wondered if there was even goign to be a featherweight division, but that all changed with Naz, he made ppl want to look at the feathers and brought the attention back to the feathers, without him i would be hard pressed to believe there would be so much pandamonium for the feathers as there is today,
2. he gave credibility to the WBO strap, love it or leave it, he did, maybe giving credibility to another alphabet title was a bad thing, the fact that he did, would the WBO be still lightly regarded if he didn't come along? would we even recognize soem fighters if they did where the WBO strap? tru joe Calgzahe gives it credibility too but it was started with Naz
.....it also helped in lettin ppl not get so worked up over the belts as they once were, we knew he was the best feather in the world out there even if we did hate him or if he didn't have all the trinkets fact remained he was the best regardless of anythign around his waste, so maybe he did 3 good to great things for boxing.
its good to see if he can come back, but against an active MAB? i don't know about that one, but it would be interesting to see if he changed up his style and got disciplined and if not hes going out, you can bet on that
Hamed approached Barrera to psyche him out! Being approx. 40 lbs over the Feather limit was meant to give MAB a sense of Hamed's limitations, when in fact it's a Hollywood Fat Suit.
It's not? Hamed is fucked.
your telling me that barrera was in manchester??? at the hatton fight? yea right!
Barrera was in Sheffield to support his good friend Ricky Hatton, Barrera and Hatton have been very good friends for around seven years now.
IMO the reason ppl are believing naz this time more than any. is cuz hes on tv saying this, hes challeneging ppl, he has a contract n stuff like that. b4, it was jus "hes coming back".
im a huge naz fan, n i hope he does come back.
hes going to be a huge underdog in the fight, n if he does come back and win, itll be something HUGE in boxing
Yeah, it would have to be a money fight...Hamed got his ass beat by Barrera the first time and his skills probably haven't improved with the layoff. Barrera, love him or hate him, has been fighting big fights since beating Naz and seems as good as ever. Barrera by ko inside 6 if this happens.
You've bummed him.
Anyway, I can't believe anyone would come out of a four-year retirement and take on someone as dangerous as Barrera after just ONE fight. I'm not saying I don't believe it will happen, I'm saying Naz is an idiot to come back that way. That's even worse than Ali challenging Frazier for the title as his third fight in six months after a three-year layoff.
I wonder what Naz's style will be now? He can't go back to the Brendan Ingle reflex style, surely?
IF....Hamed does fight Barrera after one warm up fight then it won't be a question of fighting style or ability, it'll be a money issue. Hamed wants money, his name is probably still worth a few million and since he certainly doesn't care about the sport anymore ( if he did he'd have made an effort to fight before now ) he has a kinda uncashed check ( cheaque for the Brits out there ). He's gonna cash his lotto ticket and barrera is gonna spar with Hamed and get paid decently too! Its not a competitive match, it's to benefit hamed's bank account.
Naz looks terrible. This comeback is a joke and a desprete move by hamed's camp to make a few bucks before someone kicks his ass. A 5ft 3 lightweight who's been out for 4 years gonna beat Barrera, a man who has already beaten Hamed up. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
