Hard to determine how much Manny will get if this goes all the way. But comparing what lou DiBella was awarded $110,000 in compensatory damages and an additional $500,000 in punitive damages for the Libel remarks Hopkins made back in 2005. It can be assumed that Manny may get something similar or possibly more.
Hopkins is not the fighter he once was and that has been obvious since the Eastman fight. VS Eastman he gave away lots of early rounds and showed he cannot fight hard for 12 rounds. He took that reality to an even greater scale vs Taylor. He's just old now, and he will not be able to beat Taylor who will now have the benefit of having been on the big stage with the former best middleweight in the world.
Bernard is 41, guys. He will not win this fight.
I agree, and I hope that the ones that are saying Hopkins will win, won't be the ones who come back and say its cause Hopkins is old, and a Prime Hopkins would have stopped Taylor. Hopkins fights the same way every fight, he slowly puts on pressure, and breaks down his man. Taylor will fight the same fight, and pressure Hopkins. I believe that Taylor will have enough in the Tank to avoid getting Knocked out in the end of the fight.
I rarely watch FNF, does anyone remember when USA Network did Tuesday Night Fights? I remember watching that series every week. In my opinion it was 10x better than FNF. Anyone else agree?
This is the third PPV I have not ordered over the last 15 years, and the 3 I have not ordered are from this year.
Barrera vs. whats his name?
Campas vs. Who?
And tonights .
I will say that I almost gave in. But luckliy there is a Preseason football game in HD tonight.
i agree, but thats what they said.
Shaw even held out the possibility that the fight still could be for the WBO and WBC lightweight titles, even though castillo weighed in well over the limit for that class.
"They want their sanctoning fee's" Shaw said of the organizations "and diego still wants to fight for a title."
That what it says in the paper
The organizations would love to get thier hands on the fees for this fight. I am sure they are pissed off, now that they are cut out of the fight. I am not sure what the WBC/WBO is offering Corrales, but it better be a sweet deal if this ends up being a Title fight.
This fight is now a special 12 round attraction. No Titles are at stake. Castillo really screwed himself. If he wins, he still does not get the Titles, and if he loses then a third fight will not likely happen. Who cares what the weight is at this point?. If I was in Corrales corner, I would say Fight a similiar fight that Jones Fought last week, Even if Corrales loses he still keeps his Titles. Corrales could even quit on his stool after round 1, and still keep his titles.
This fight should be cancelled, or put onto Showtime, and should not be PPV. There is no Title at stake, and means nothing. They should at least knock the price of the PPV to $25.
Gatti vs. Ward I was a great War , but with no titles the rematches were on regular HBO.
The Fans are getting screwed on this meaningless fight.
Its all about License fees. ESPN paid a bundle for the current Lot of fight films from Bill Cayton. The Rights to the fights you want are being held by Top Rank, and DKP.
HBO has started to rebroadcast some recent fights, Its a step in the right direction.
I barely post on here, and everytime I do I remember why I don't post more often.
Jones had a A$$hole father, but you are taking the stories, and painting a inaccurate picture. Unless you were there, and know all the circumstances, you should not judge.
Jones Sr. will be there for his son.
Roy will not Die. Roy will have his Dad in his corner in this fight. His Dad will not let Roy fight on, if he sees that Roy may get in trouble.
If Jones looks slow, and starts to look like he did when he fought Johnson, then you will see Roy's Father Call the fight.
Jones's Father is a "safety of fighter first" kind of trainer. In the Past Roy was told by his father not to fight a washed-up Buster Douglas, he said Douglas could kill him. Douglas got wiped out by Saverese in 1 round a couple months later. It was Roy's Dad who gave Jones the Safe opponents attitude. I believe that Jones has doubts about the fight, and wants to ensure that someeone will have his back, and stop a fight before he gets seriously hurt. His Dad will save him, if things get tough.
Well this fight will not be replayed, so do not expect to see it next week.
I have seen Peden fight, and he is no pushover. I believe that Barrera will have trouble, and will need to pull out a late KO to win. Barrera is not in his prime,
I will buy it.
Roy Jones Jr, who is considered the greatest fighter of the last 10 years, had a great Amatuer career, and really won a gold medal in the olympics. Yet even with this vast amount of experience he still fought 20 easy fighters then fighting for the Vacant WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight Title against Percy Harris who record was 15 wins 3 loses.Percy Harris was a 29 yr old fighter for that fight.
Chavez Jr, is learning his trade. Its too early to tell if he will be something special.
Boxing is a sport. Professional Boxing is entertainment more than sport. Promoters are looking for fighters that excite crowds, and that are agressive. For professional boxing to survive, and for fans to keep filling up venues, and for fighters to keep getting the big paydays, it takes the exciting fighters to keep the public interested. It is the paying fans that want excitement. There are few boxing fans that watch professional boxing for the sport. It is all about keeping the customer entertained. The exciting fighters are the ones that bring in the money, and therefore the establishment will always favor a aggressive fighter over a dull fighter.
Hopkins has been in this sport for many years, he says he is aware of how the system works, and has done everything to battle that system. Well Hopkins was a fool on Saturday, he had a chance to close the show and KO Taylor , but fought with no real urgency in the last 2 rounds while Taylor was exhausted.
My thinking is that Hopkins knew what he was doing. He threw the fight. Hopkins knew that he was behind in the fight, and decided to close the Gap in rounds 9-12. But when Taylor got hurt with a counter right , he was forced to pull back and let Taylor recoup.
Hopkins was not that upset at the end of the fight. There was no cry for a investagation, but there is a rematch clause. So make even more money on the rematch, and at that time Hopkins will come out and beat Taylor easily, like he was suppose to the first time. This will make Hopkins look like a greater fighter than ever.
The Closing comments to the HBOPPV broadcast by Manny Steward rang true. He mentioned that Hopkins had many opportunites to hurt Taylor, but didnt. Hopkins is a great fighter with many weapons, but only chose to use the counter right all night. Both statements that Steward made are true, and lead me to believe that a fight was thrown.
By Hopkins tied to another fight with Taylor, this leaves out the possibility of Hopkins fighting Wright. I believe Hopkins did the right thing in a business sense. He lost the fight, but not without contraversy, and now will make more on the rematch, and at the same time will be able to beat Taylor easily which will award him a higher status in history, and lastly not having to fight Wright a more dangerous opponent.
I highly doubt Bernard would have ended his streak by throwing the fight.
Come on now guy.
Streaks do not get you more money in retirement. Hopkins wins in every way money wise, and then gets vindication for the contraversal loss. Its business.
He had a consussion, was bleeding profusely, out of gas, and STILL hung on to eek out the SD.
GIVE THE MAN SOME CREDIT.
And its amazing to me how many people are clueless about boxing on a freaking boxing website.
I usually just read the nonsense for entertainment. I truly believe most people that post on here are trying to get attention. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion. But the facts will always remain. Taylor won a SD against Hopkins. No matter how much people gripe and complain, the outcome will never change.
He's gonna announce DLH vs. Trinidad II
I agree. Trinidad vs. De La Hoya II is the real money fight, with lower risk, and a revenge factor. If Oscar beats Trinidad, then a fight with Winky. Trinidad fans would like to see thier hero one more time beat the great Oscar De La Hoya.
De la Hoya has a huge fan base, and so does Trinidad. Therefore the money to be made would be huge. Mayweather does not have a huge fan base, and he will end up demanding a high purse, and will out price himself. Therefore the fight will not happen.
Now that Golden Boy Productions has been dealing with Don King Productions, it seems they can come to the table and work out deals better than GBP and Top Rank. King still promotes Trinidad, and Arum promotes Mayweather. Everything points to a De La Hoya vs. Trindad Rematch.
Quality source, with as little transfer to DVD as possible.
Record in SP or XP mode, but capture straight from the original source if possible. The DVD video will only look as good as the original video.
I capture the video to a HDTIVO, then transfer to a DVD recorder using S-Video, I record in SP mode. Then edit the video onto a computer.
I suggest using Maxell DVD-R's made from Japan, or Taiyo Yuden DVD's.
Good luck!
I have not seen Ikeke fight, so I am not sure what he will bring. I have seen Echols fight, and he can fight a rough fight. Echols will need to muscle Ikeke to the ropes, and keep the fight close. Ikeke may come into the ring nervous being that this is a step up in comp. It would be wise for Echols to attack early, and look to hurt Ikeke early. This fight is a crossroads for both fighters. The only way both fighters will lose, is if the fight is boring. Ikeke needs to be explosive, and show he has got what it takes to be at the top of the rankings, Echols needs to be focused and use his experience to make Ikeke fight a Echols fight.
I am a Barrera Fan, but I am a boxing Fan more. Therefore I did not purchase this PPV. I will say that this is the first time in over 10 years that I did not purchase a Boxing PPV fight. This one was a rip-off. Barely good enough for boxing after Dark. Shame on HBO and Golden Boy Promotions for trying to pull this scam. I believe the Julio Chavez vs. Ivan Robinson PPV is worth more than this match up was.
Expect the numbers on the PPV to be about 25,000.
Tyson is a Attraction in DC.
From Fightnews.com
Fans buy nearly 6,000 tickets in first three hours!
Boxing fans flooded the box office on Friday purchasing nearly 6,000 tickets, totaling over $650,000.
In Boxing you don't have to be the best fighter to make the most money.
I am hoping for a mid round stoppage for Ikeke .
I am up here in Spokane for business, so I will be there live at the fight. Hoping for a solid fight card.
If Corrales had the mindset to drop the mouthpeice, then he was not that hurt, maybe stunned. He did do it on purpose, but that meant he knew what he was doing. Castillo was out of the building when he was hurt.
Trinidad has been known to throw low blows when he has been hurt, (against Vargas), Barrera threw a lunging headbut against Pacquiao, those fouls are worse than what Corrales did.
It was Castillo's fault for coming in and allowing Corrales to nail him with 4 left hooks. Castillo should have been a bit more cautious when trying to close the the show. A hurt fighter is a dangerous fighter.
Corrales lost his mouthpeice the first time on a shot from Castillo, the second one was a strategic move, then Goosen dropped the mouthpeice in the corner. It was a veteren move by the fighter and the trainer. Both fighters and both corners used tricks in the fight.
Castillo shot many low blows when the ref was on the other side. Castillo's corner was suppose to wipe the excess vasiline, but wiped around the face, keeping the glob on the cut.
This fight was so even, and both fighters fought a high level. Great fight , and a great night for the fans.
