he said in the post fight presser he hurt his hand in the second round, maybe there was a mistake in the translation but watch after the second round in the corner what happens, they put ice on his shoulder, and they continue to do this every round on
I think it was his right hand. After the fight, I noticed Loma pointed to show his dad his right glove. And both gloves stayed on a long time before they cut the tape off, and even then they weren't just yanking the gloves off. Wouldn't surprise me if he broke it and fought through the numbness.
"War" Cotto!
"War" Margarito!
"War" whoever is flavor of the week!
Childish use of this word like something an overweight nerd teenager made up for boxing forums with the help of playing one too many Everquest games...or worse, watching MMA/UFC.
I didn't hear anything about Manny and the IRS. I mean I know he has that house ( I mean mansion) in L.A. so he does indeed pay some taxes in Cali and the US like property and what not, but am thinking this IRS stuff is just an exagerrated rumor to piggy back off of that record label trying to sue Pac for millions.
Anyone going to go to Alexander vs. Bradley in St. Louis? Do you think this fight will be a sell out and draw a good crowd in St. Louis? Is it actually confirmed for the Lou? I heard St. Louie yesterday and know Don King has some serious pull (understatement of course), but something tells me we could still see an announcement change of venue...to Vegas namely. Mosley set the bar two years ago with this niche date in Staples Center that's squeezed in b/w the last playoff game and 8 days before the SuperBowl, so I would have to think that's more of a reason for Mandalay Bay or MGM to get this fight...considering the influx of people making their way to Sin City in advance of the SuperBowl. I mean, how does St. Louis compete with that other than a guaranteed 11,000 capacity at Chaifetz Arena on the campus of SLU? And why in the world would Bradley agree to this site when Vegas is a 40 minute puddle jump from LAX or Ontario CA airport or simply a 4 hour drive from Palm Springs? Just don't get it at all considering a date of January 29th which has absolutely no NFL football on and surely to drive in some serious network revenue and/or ppv dollars with a Vegas casino. I respect Bradley for going to the UK vs. Witter and fighting Holt in Montreal ( I believe), but St. Louis just makes little to no sense for me...from a Team Bradley perspective.
I'm sure you remember the contract proposal from about 2 yrs ago just a couple of weeks before Haye claimed a back injury which many thought had to do with possibly not getting paid from Sky Sports (UK network teetering with bankruptcy) etc etc. Anyway, the contract basically had the two brothers as an all-inclusive "one party" where it was mandated that David would be forced to fight Vitali if he beat Wlad yada yada. This was an unprecedented type of boxing contract in that it artificially made the two brothers, ostensibly, as one single party.
So this is one answer to your question. Another would require a lot less legal interpretation and brain capacity as follows: They're both 6'6" plus and fight in a very similar fashion, they look alike, they were both conceived by the same baby gravy, they have agreed to never fight each other, they sound alike, they are both robotic yet efficient, and the list goes on. Does this help answer your question lol?
If they would fight for a 3rd time it would be the ultimate admission that the gloves were loaded in the 1st two fights! Think about it, there is absolutely no reason for a 3rd fight when the 1st two were mid round stoppages. And Arum is too smart to open up this can of worms so I doubt we'll ever see Cheato/Frog trilogy.
Like Rosie Perez said: "Sometimes when you win you actually lose..." I just don't like the lead up to this fight from a Ward perspective. I think that his Olympic pedigree and slick switch hitting (at times) will lead to a pts win, but I see this fight putting 30,000 road miles on those Ferrari tires. I see somewhat of a blueprint being put down by Green, for future Ward opponents namely Dirrell, even though Ward will outclass Green like 116-112. I am also skeptical that Team Ward kinda faked an injury to bide a little more time for their young gun to come back down to planet earth after skyrocketing past Kessler in that tko win. Just conjecture and opinion here on that possible stall tactic, but the fact remains that Green is coming into this fight with nothing really to lose; loose as a goose and is a far cry from what the tapes Team Ward studied on Jermaine. Can't wait for this fight and I'll ride with Oakland to hold off a dangerous AG.
After Tim "Dirty mini me Headbutt/Holyfield) Bradley outclasses the sh*t outta Abregu at welter, the only fight bringing him back down to 140 is the dollars and cents from Khan and his Reebok, multi million $ endorsement to wear those Reyes private labels by UK Reebok). That's low risk and high reward which Bradley seems to be all about these days after his sense of entitlement from beating up a game but young and 'still learning on the job' Lamont. Bradley is scared sh*tless of Alexander the Great b/c he's finally in there with a guy that can follow the slick boxing blueprint laid down by Holt (early on) and strong as an ox with in-fighting if Bradley uses the head as a battering ram (unlike what old ass Nate could fend off). But for his B+ boxing ability and A+ Holyfield tricks of the trade, Bradley is still not in Alexander's class especially at 140. Only guy I see that sprints out to a lead and holds on to a 115-113 vs. Alexander at Jr. Welter right now is if Berto can successfully drain 7 lbs. But that's fantasy at this point since there's no financial reward for Andre to face Devon even at a catch of say 44; Berto is only venturing down to 140 to tax Khan's English arse.
Already posted earlier but only packaged with other opponents; so let me dissect it for you: Watch how a young, undefeated Toney continues to stalk an undefeated Michael '2nd To' Nunn (having been outboxed for 7 rds easy) and then you see the brilliance of James Toney. Now if you want a Saw V performance, just watch James T vs Iran Barkley. Okay I'm done!
The author of this thread is either a boxing degenerate or a damn good writer, or all of the above. Excellent analysis here as I don't remember seeing any boxing analyst or journalist break this down so clearly. I like the parallel about May throwing it out there numerous times that JMM "clearly" beat Pac twice yet never moved the goal posts on JMM, leading up to their fight in Sept '09. Well of course he faked a rib injury for a better date of Mexican Independence Day for better ppv numbers; oh and who can forget the premeditated 2 lbs over on the scale...but at least there was a method to that both from a business perspective and physical/size standpoint. This filibustering of 60/40 and OSDT'ing up to the day of the weigh-in are holding Boxing at bay and ransom. I can't believe that I have to resort to old school mediums like ESPN or USA Today for the only "truth" about these negotiations; a true sign that Lil Floyd has Boxing at an impasse for the summer months b/c no big fights will be signed until the best-in-class hovering around 140 to 154 know for sure if they are "in" or "out" of the November sweepstakes' date already locked down by Bobfather. Thanks $May for ruining my summer.
Excellent breakdown, OP. I commend Hop for honoring this fight and repaying Chad in a way for stepping aside and smoothing the path for Hop/Pascal II, but I can't see Hop winning this fight. I think Hop will have to reach back in the old, dirty trick bag and try to head butt early (unfortunately), b/c this fight will get away from him quickly. I don't see a motivation factor for Hop like I saw for him leading up to Tarver, Winky (b/c so much smaller), Pavlik, Pascal I & II etc or even Calzaghe even though he lost. I have to think that Chad outworks and gets off first in the center against Hop in at least 8 of those 12 rds and Hop starts to look old from about the 7th on (similar to the Jones II fight minus the rabbit punch). Hop will not win this fight fighting 30 sec spurts like he tried against Calzaghe, and I see this fight playing out similar especially giving Steward another training camp with Chad; plus Chad's confidence of getting the rebound fight vs. Diaconu under his belt.
I don't see it happening b/c Manny Steward is Cotto's chief second now. Steward has made a living out of these tall fighters that have a pitcher's advantage sitting on top of a raised mound...latest pupil being Chad Dawson. Even though the blueprint has been set by Quintana/Martinez/Lara, I don't see Cotto being as effective with Williams. Manny S. knows this as the Margo, Bundradge or JCC Jr. fights seem to be a better risk/reward scenario for Cotto, the latter of which has been laboring punches in his last two fights with Yuri & Ricardo....just not fluid anymore at 54 due to Cheato and Pac's beating at 47 & 45 respectively.
C'mon dawg, I see this little game you're playing with this thread because if it does come to fruition then you'll look like a self proclaimed genius, especially after you dig up this dated forum and blast it all over B-Scene. But to put Bradley in the same category as B-Hop is utter stupidity. Yeah Bradley is a battering ram with the head like Nard did to Winky, yeah Bradley opens the gloves illegally and rabbit punches like Nard does, but that's where the similarities end. Bernard made a career of never being in the same place twice from a defensive standpoint; Bradley is about as far away from this craft as Malignaggi is to being a one punch KO artist. If you want to pick a legend and tie him to Bradley, do it with Holyfield for example. But leave Bernard out of this analogy as again, that's utter stupidity on many different levels which I only touched upon 2 or so examples. Btw, anyone can throw sh!t at a wall to see if longshot predictions pan out, but please have more respect for the Science than this foolishness; i.e. Base the outcome of future fights on pragmatics and styles, not this fantasy parallel semantics!
Holyfield in his prime was much more impressive than Bhop.. Im talking about the muhammad qawi error.. If Bradley really has that kind of heart he does stand a chance.. Against casamayor he didnt impress me much.. Can someone point me to a fight, which would convince me he has a chance.. perhaps is the peterson fight worth downloading?
Yes, I'm quite aware that Holyfield had/has the heart of a lion which is why I still used the adjective of "legend" before I introduced him in my post. And I'm not referring to the Holyfield that fought at cruiser (like u did) who actually let his boxing ability and 84 Olympic pedigree dictate good, sound fights. I'm referring to the Holyfield that would use his head in the clinches to get an advantage after his first fight/loss to Bowe. The Holyfield that could catch & release (parry & counter) better than anyone I've ever seen since Hagler. But still the Holyfield that looked for shortcuts in fights when a bigger Bowe set the blueprint on how to beat the former.
Oh and don't worry about watching Bradley vs. Peterson, Witter or Alexander; just watch the first 3 rds against Holt and you should be convinced that Manny will have relatively easy work if Bradley keeps it clean. However asking Bradley to keep it clean is like asking the SAW series to stay PG13.
The last quarter of 2010 as you outlined should be a great springboard for Alexander/Bradley in very early 2011. But if the last 2 years have taught us anything, look for half of these fights to not go off due to mysterious injuries (Haye's back, Floyd's ribs etc), mysterious ailments (Pavlik's perpetual staph problems), falling through a damn glass shower (thanks Zab), promotional & management problems (Maidana wanting no part of Desert Storm), neurological disorders (good one Dirrell) and the Who's Who list of cry babies go on-n-on!
This is starting to become a pattern with the Bay Area olympian. First he postpones against Green due to a sore knee and now that same Ward is involved in a 2nd consecutive "rain check", WTF? Goosen went on record saying he had no problem with Detroit and Shaw is smart enough to make the numbers stick to keep the Motor City as the site. I just don't get it. The only x factor to this would be some type of date later in the fall that could drive the numbers up, similar to $May faking a summer rib injury to secure Mexican freedom day vs. JMM. But both of these guys are American and I don't see any niche dates out there from Oct to December. I'm slowly starting to wonder if Ward's "hat in hand", S.O.G. approach to things is real or is he a prima donna much like Calzaghe was accused by Warren of being.
If you watch Valero fight you will notice something - he's not very good.
Manny is a world class fighter - one of the greats. Valero's chin was never tested so we can't say if he'd be knocked out or not.
If he has a weak chin, he'd get knocked out QUICK.
If he had a good chin, Manny would knock the steel plate out of his head, probably ending Valero's life.
I agree that we never saw Valero's actual chin tested, but what we did see was a guy that suffered one of the worst cuts over the last 10 yrs and actually came on stronger. He looked surpisingly more technical and fluid after that horrible gash than he did before it which is a complete paradox. But all the heart and granite chin in the world wouldn't have saved him from getting thoroughly outclassed by Manny at 135 and especially light welter. Roach would have had Manny throwing those beautiful check-hooks from the southpaw stance and on the reset, Manny would have led with the straight left over-n-over. By the 6th this would have been uncompetitive as Valero would be getting beat to the punch and walked/stalked down. Corner or doctor stoppage not that dissimilar to Pac v. DLH.
He's not fighting for 40 million, who's to believe he'd do it for 20
HBO Brass are too funny. They let a media indistinct guy like Harold stroll through the casino lobby and patronize $May in an effort to mitigate the whip lash from Greenburg's corroboration on Bob's stance last week. HBO playing both sides of the fence and having to drag poor ole Lederman into the picture cuz Lampley or the other drunk Merchant woulda been too obvious. Good try HBO but your boy Harold already creamed himself over the clash b/w Manny & Cheato so this brown nosing attempt of $May was pointless.
He has nothing to worry about, Kotelnik isn't much of a puncher and can be overly defensive. Alexander has this one in the bag, trust. The only problem I see here is that stylistically I don't see Alexander puttin' on a good showing due to the style clash. I've been saying this for the longest, hopefully I'm wrong. Completely concur. Devon is a g'damn gym rat and is way too zoned in right now to overlook a solid B level boxer like Kotelnik. This one probably goes to a lopsided UD for Alexander where the last 3 or so rds shows Devon just having fun in there and cruising to get some work in.
What do you call 3 Chuck Norris' vs. 1 Danny Green? A fair fight.
Why was the Internet invented? Because Danny Green allowed it to be invented.
IBO just advised that the opponent for Danny Green's next fight will be allowed to wear head gear and Green is mandated to wear 20oz gloves due to the sheer force of both his left and right jab(s).
Why wouldn't it still be on? There was a special 30 day, pre-fight weigh-in not but a few days ago. Dawson scaled at something like 177 and Pascal was in the 180's. Excuse me for being somewhat paranoid but I'm not sure why this question is being asked?
Im still thinking about it but damn the latter part of 2010 has been good.
Probably one of the best I think was Williams vs Martinez 2 just for the hillarity it brought about on the forums, rubbing it in.
Crap fights 2010: Cintron doing the Soulja Boy Superman vs. PWill; RJJ vs. BHop II; Danny Green vs. that dude that took a dive in Rd 1; and Fraudley Harrison vs. Haye.
My favorite: Martinez vs. Pavlik; JMM vs. Katsidis; John Wall vs. The Dougie; and Mares vs. Raging Bull.
Better late than never. It's got to be for Cotto's belt.
Nelson, you're always the voice of reason so help me out with something that just isn't sitting right with me: Is Cotto truly a free agent? I just have this funny suspicion that Arum/TR has some back doors with Cotto's alleged expired contract, and TR could hold up this fight through a cease & desist or another legal maneuver. Call me paranoid but something tells me that Arum will inject his way into this May 5th fight somehow, whether that is fine print showing Cotto is still enslaved to TR similar to the franchise tag in the NFL, or some other means by which Arum gets to "play God"...kinda like King was able to do with Mayorga by getting an injunction and stopping an MMA fight altogether.
I know why!!
I know why Floyd fans are just saying that Miguel has no chance, how its going to be a one sided beating, how FMJr is going to stop Cotto, and how he (Floyd) is going just to steamroll Cotto; how Diaz does not anything and how unproven he is...etc.
Because they are worried, they are scared and the DO KNOW that Cotto is a very dangerous opponent for Floyd and will give PBF the hardest fight of his carreer.
They know that Diaz is ensuring that Miguel is fit, and ready with fluid and dynamic game plans, smart pressure, cutting the ring and attacking the body, switching stands with quick accurate combos, boxing and trapping Floyd making him think that Miguel is on retreat.
Cotto is motivated, he wants this win, he wants to be victorious! Miguel is focused, and his mind is clear. Dont be fooled by his videos, dont think that he is slow, dont think that his foot work is crap, dont think that he is a one arm fighter......May 5th, Cotto will put Floyd down at least once!
Yo voy al mio! War Miguel!
Man I hope you're 100% wrong on Miguel going back to his 140 lb days and doing some switch hitting. Why? Because mixing in a southpaw stance against a guy that has one of the best lead rights in the last 30 yrs is a recipe for utter disaster. Cotto needs to remember that he is the established 154lber in this fight and work behind a jab from his orthodox stance, stay patient etc., but to get caught up in these gimmicks of switch hitting will put him in the same boat that Junior Witter was in against Tim Bradley. Lord I hope you're wrong on this front but do agree with the other x's and o's you laid out for Team Cotto.
Always refreshing to see pics from a fan's point of view b/c one can almost place themselves in your seat and feel the action & atmosphere. Enuf of my corny and "jealous" rant, THANKS for sharing!!! Good looking out.
I suspected Holyfield of juicing for Tyson I and II. Something about his heart condition after the Bowe fights and then his traps and shoulders were touching his ears (no pun intended, Evander) versus Mike. Dude's biceps, traps, and wingspan were unreal in those fights even though Evander was already carved like a T-day turkey beforehand.
I suspected Manny of maybe not outright juicing, but probably being on EPO or something similar from the DLH fight to Hatton. I think Manny may have stopped around the Cotto joint or Margs.
And then of course I think JMM was definitely on PEDs, maybe HGH stacked with some other things, for this last Pacq fight. I'm sorry but drinking your own piss doesn't give you those fricking shoulders...damn dude 's back and shoulders were jacked up like a middle weight.
I agree with you on Holyfield. I believe he's been juicing all of his career as an heavyweight. He actually trained with Lee Haney. He credits Lee with getting him up in weight from Light Heavy to Heavyweight. We all know how juiced those bodybuilders were back in those days. Thanks for the 411 on Lee Haney and Evander, did not know that. That would kind of explain some of Evander's fights like the first Moorer clash and the Toney fight where Evander looked like he hit the proverbial brick wall...which anyone that has ever juiced can tell you that when you peak out, it's a spiral downhill where you get weaker almost literally on the bench press doing reps. And then you have to get creative with a new stacking regiment or you just lay off that ish for a year plus. I just remember saying how is this the same guy against Toney looking weak in the clinches compared to the dude that bullied the bully in Tyson 1 especially in that 9th and 10th round. Like a darn juiced up thoroughbred running the Kent Derby.
