Speaking of the Super Six, it seems awfully likely that the Andre Ward-Andre Dirrell super middleweight title bout scheduled for Sept. 25 is going to be postponed.
We're about six weeks out and there has not been a news conference, there is no site and tickets are not on sale, which you can't do without a site. That's not exactly a good way to promote a highly significant title fight between 2004 U.S. Olympic teammates and medal winners.
Keep in mind that the site for the Mikkel Kessler-Allan Green Group Stage 3 bout of the tournament -- Herning, Denmark -- which is also on Sept. 25, was announced a couple of weeks ago. Further, the site (Monte Carlo) for the final Group Stage 3 bout, Arthur Abraham-Carl Froch, which is on Oct. 2, was also announced a few weeks ago.
But with regard to Ward-Dirrell, there has been nothing but silence.
When I asked Dirrell promoter Gary Shaw about the situation the other day, he didn't want to get into it. When I asked again to please be honest about it, his response was, "I can't be honest. I'm a promoter." Maybe he was saying that in jest, maybe not. So when I pressed him further, Shaw told me to ask Dan Goossen, Ward's promoter.
So I did that. When I talked to Goossen on Thursday night and asked him to clarify the situation, he didn't provide a real answer, electing to duck it like David "The Ducker" Haye is ducking Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.

i can't ****ing stand Rafael he's always got a hard on for mayweather notice how despite his claim that he loves the super six because it means he doesn't have to think about the mayweather pacquiao fight not happening he mentions it nonetheless because thats the type of prick he is
also is a so called boxing journalist supposed to call a heavyweight champion a ducker i don't think so
then he takes away bundrage's glory by saying spinks is a shot fighter funny that seeing as he hasn't been stopped since he fought zab judah in 2005
:soapbox:
This is starting to become a pattern with the Bay Area olympian. First he postpones against Green due to a sore knee and now that same Ward is involved in a 2nd consecutive "rain check", WTF? Goosen went on record saying he had no problem with Detroit and Shaw is smart enough to make the numbers stick to keep the Motor City as the site. I just don't get it. The only x factor to this would be some type of date later in the fall that could drive the numbers up, similar to $May faking a summer rib injury to secure Mexican freedom day vs. JMM. But both of these guys are American and I don't see any niche dates out there from Oct to December. I'm slowly starting to wonder if Ward's "hat in hand", S.O.G. approach to things is real or is he a prima donna much like Calzaghe was accused by Warren of being.
WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward revealed last night on Marc Lichtenfeld’s highly acclaimed weekly radio show “Through the Ropes” that no site has been picked for his September 25 Group Stage 3 Super Six World Boxing Classic showdown with Andre Dirrell, but it will be at a neutral site.
Venues have already been named for the other two pivotal Group Stage 3 matchups. WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler will take on Allan Green in the newly-built state-of-the art MCH Multiarena Herning in Denmark, also on September 25. The following week, Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch will collide at the Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille in Monaco.
Fight news is the source, from August 6.
I agree. But, it just kills me how guys are crying as if the fight is off. I mean, we have posters calling Ward and Dirrell "cowards" because of all of this.
:lol1:
Neither Dirrell nor Ward have spoken out about any disputes, its been their promoters. But the thing I like about the tourney is that they WILL fight.
Yeah, I agree.
At least this TS managed to put an accurate title.
These postponements are annoying, but the fight will happen.

How are you gonna tell people to shut up about the venue and then post a link where they're arguing over the venue?
Shaw thinks its unfair for Ward to have all his fights in Oakland?
Yeah? Well so does everyone else.
:dunce:
My last post clearly went over your head. I said, I hope that they fight outside of Oakland, so everyone can shut up whining about it. Then, the link that I posted was to SHOW that 1) the promoters are the ones with the dispute, not the fighters and 2) this started with the promoters back in March, and its nothing new.
With that said, I want them to fight outside of Oakland. Heck, I would love for the rest of his fights to be outside Oakland. To show that, no matter the location, he still beats the guys IN THE RING.
i think this issue can be resolved.
ward will be in oakland while dirrell in michigan...while they play Fight Night multiplayer mode.
what a bunch of divas.
Its the promoters that are having the dispute, not the fighters.

I don't get Andre Ward at all. Dude is starting to turn into the new Sven Otte. He has already had two big fights in his hometown, so who cares if he has to go on the road....even if it's in Detroit.
All the greats have went on the road and dominated, so why can't Andre do the same.
With those greats, going on the road meant out of the country, and last time I checked, Detroit isn't even all the way accross the country, just half way (from Oakland) making this more pathetic.
Ward has a very decorated amatuer career, so he has fought outside of friendly confines before. And, I hope that they fight in Detroit or anywhere besides Oakland, so everyone can shut up about the venue. Besides, this is moreso a dispute with the promoters. And, its nothing new.

Just put them in Vegas with a good undercard.
Why must they both ***** about location?
