if only you had something of substance to say... no one is saying this is a good fight. Im saying tune up fights and confidence building fights are a part of boxing. Try staying on topic.
I am not defending this fight. Im merely stating that this is something that happens and will continue to happen in boxing. Rod Salka is unworthy, yes I get it. But this fight is not much worse than the comparisons i gave. Truth is I could have done the comparison with fighters of today. I chose these legends because I thought it would make my point a bit easier. Its a **** fight, but every good or great fighter has **** fights on their resume. Maybe Salka will surprise people like Herrera did. My problem is really with the "what have you done for me lately?" attitude that boxing fans have. Fans said Garcia would duck Matthysse, he fights him... they say Herreras a **** fight (I knew how good Herrera could be, hes like a mini Carlos Molina) Herrera gives Danny all he could handle... now after two seriously tough outings hes taking an easy fight, easier than he should... but the truth is Danny doesnt make his own fights... matchmakers make the fights... im giving him a pass here because im sure his next fight will be against Peterson... you can all start typing your "PEDerson got KOed by Lucas" comments now.... the truth is styles make fights and Peterson is an even better inside fighter than Herrera and unless Danny gets an inside game hes going to have a lot of trouble with Lamont as well. I just cant stand some of you "FANS" who really dont understand the sport.
Ring Ratings at JWW are as follows
1. Lucas Matthysse (Garcia has already fought and beaten him)
2. Lamont Peterson (this is obviously the fight GBP is building)
3. Chris Algeiri (scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao)
4. Ruslan Provodnikov (fights on HBO)
5. Mike Alvarado (fights on HBO)
6. Zab Judah (already beaten by Garcia)
7. Adrien Broner (surprised hes even on the list)
8. Jesse Vargas (fights on HBO)
9. Victor Postol (fights on HBO)
10. Khabib (last fought on HBO)
difficult to make a lot of these fights... I do expect to see Garcia-Peterson next. Garcia needs to move up to welterweight after Peterson because there really isnt much else for Garcia in his division.
I mean it's not the end of the world, this is boxing and it can happen to anyone...I've seen some post of people talking about Khan..Yes he loss 3 fights..But the kid is young and can rebound if he takes his craft and opponents more seriously...It's like that with loads of fighters tho,if the fighter loses fans lose interest in the fighter...This is something I've never got, hell sometimes a loss is a good thing and a learning experience..What are some thoughts on this subject....
I completely agree... boxing fans are the worst fans in the world... most boxing fans rely on the ideas of commentators and writers who are quick to write a fighter off after a loss, rather than formulating their own insightful ideas... I think this is becoming a trend in boxing because of the aura surrounding Mayweather's undefeated record... now when you lose a fight you are deemed irrelevant... I don't believe this to be so... many great fighters have lost big fights and still went on to have more big fights and win some of those... I think it's great when great fighters take a big risk. a loss doesn't make a great fighter any less great. I don't believe there is a better measure of greatness than how one comes back from a loss...

truth is if you work with a guy that has a history of supplying athletes with designer steroids that are undetectable, your motives for doing so must be questioned.... and any man calling that coach a genius (Ariza) should also be under suspicion... but everyone is innocent until proven guilty... you wanna keep PEDs out of boxing? ban the coaches who have a history of cheating in sports (conte, heredia, etc.)

I'm not ready to say golovkin is P4P material... but i have always thought sergio is overrated just a bit... if Golovkin can manage more than Chavez 26 ppr... he should stop sergio.... but this fight wont happen as long as europe keeps ****ting out tall slow footed middleweights for martinez to feast on.

never will happen.
but lets play this game, trout would avoid the rematch call out floyd but floyd will ignore him and trout goes on to fight nobodys at 154 .
you are a combination of blind faith and hate my friend.

I think Trout/Cotto was tbh. I mean when Floyd fought Cotto, Cotto was a beast. After Trout mirrored the act, Cotto instantly became shot. Seriously, like a millisecond after the decision was announced.

Because it was already being discussed. Cotto vs Canelo was the fight they wanted but wanted to lagitimize the fight with the belt.
What they really wanted was Cotto to beat Trout and then set up a big fight on PPV between Canelo and Cotto, Trout fuked that up. K9 was never in the picture.

You just answered you're own point there....lol
no your implying Cotto NEEDED to beat Trout in order to get the Canelo fight.... thats not true... im saying Cotto wanted the strap for more leverage during negotiations...

ellies not a reporter... hes a fan with a cam who asks the most ridiculous questions.... never displays an objective view.... and now hes like a mascot for oxnard... hes a bird.... Chris Robinson on the other hand actually asks legitimate questions in his interviews... hes more of a journalist....

He was missing by a mile on some of the shots you described. IDK if he's ever been that inaccurate and I really can't even remember a significant blow landed by him in the fight. I chalk that up to Trout's own ability because Cotto looked alright to me, I don't think he's that far gone.
He put himself into good positions with his footwork but Trout's body is really hard to hit at distance and even in close because of the angles he was taking. I still have questions about Trout's resistance to the body because he's kinda skinny, but maybe it never comes to that. for cotto, without being able to land to the body early it was pretty much over
I thought he tried some different approaches, but nothing worked. I guess he did a little better when he had Trout coming to him but he was only doing that because he was tired and had to move...i don't know if that was necessarily a decision they made midfight, he does it all the time when gassed.
Cotto landed some viscious left hooks in that fight (which was a close fight).... I question whether you even saw this fight. Cotto fought in a very similar style to that he used against quintana... with more movement... while he had some success ... his handspeed isnt the same as it once was... he lost a couple miles on the fastball...

Cotto has always done better when he's being followed. It was evident in the fight with Floyd also. I agree that he should have fought in reverse as much as possible.
thats just not true... it is an aspect of his game, and he can fight going backwards but he is at his best applying intellegent pressure behind his jab... Trout was a really tall mountain to climb... not sure why everyone is writing Cotto off... Id put money on Trout vs Canelo... Canelo doesnt do as well as Cotto... not enough versatility in his attack and hes not as good defensively.... dont let cottos face fool you... his face swells badly since Margarito I...

Castillo's wins over Casamayor ,Stevie Johnston and Corrales > every single win Cotto's ever had possibly combined.
Cotto lost every major fight he ever had Margarito, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Trout. With dispusted wins some say he lost like Clottey and Mosley
but wait, he did get wins over old shot Mayorga, 1 leggend Foreman, Torres, Malignaggi and he got a vacant title against Jennings. ATG stuff right there.
I like Cotto but when are people going to realize he's glorified gatekeeper?
you sound like an idiot.

When you fight a come forward style, your bound to get hit sometimes... and yes Zab caught Cotto with some good uppercuts... doesnt change the fact that he lost almost every round of the fight...cotto came forward the entire fight constant pressure.
zab has fast hands ... he has a REAL knockdown that he should have gotten credit for on floyd....
mosley... cotto fought that fight coming forward for most of the fight... won most his rounds that way... he only switched styles when mosley started to rally and cotto saw he wasnt going to knock him out...

You're right. About Zab. Cotto got comfortable and Zab folded. I don't know what the hell him knocking Floyd down has to do with it but OK. As for Mosley, he worked in and out. Cotto has to be able to switch it up like I stated. He doesn't have much in the way of reach. He should have given more ground and used his jab against Trout once he saw Austin was better than he expected on the inside. Its OK to give ground as the smaller guy and a seasoned vet. Get in and get out. Trout gave him chances. Trout was dog ass tired because he hasn't had to fight like that much.

He didn't have experience over Cotto. Cotto abandoned (not taken away) what he does best and that's jab and body work. Trout is the new Mike Jones. Lengthy with solid skills. Not some brilliant ring general like BS posters would lead you to believe.
the zab knocking floyd down comment was meant to stress that everyone gets hit in fights even mayweather...but that didnt change the fact that cotto dominated judah... and he was coming forward on mosley for almost the entire fight... but i see your point... letting trout come to him did work in round 6... but that doesnt change the fact that in rounds 3,4,5 cotto was successful coming forward... maybe a different look would have helped him... hard to say... I think Cotto could really use a new strength & conditioning coach... i think a new philosophy in that department would do wonders for him.

I personally don't want the Guerrero fight but after Manny lost I'm fine with it since it's set in stone that they won't ever fight.
Lara beat Paul Williams, had a draw with Carlos Molina, and was kicking Vanes's ass before the fight got stopped because of the cut. All three are better opponents than anyone Alvarez ever fought.
Trout beating Cotto was a really good win, not excellent but really good, for Trout because he is a young fighter trying to prove himself. We had never seen him fight anyone on that level. We've seen Mayweather fight half a dozen Cotto level fighters before.
i think Cotto was the only Cotto level fighter floyd faced.... i think cotto beats anyone mayweather faced from 140lb up...
