I understand not being impressed with the level of Danny's opposition in this fight but lets remember no one was impressed with Herrera before that fight. I thought Herrera would be tough and he was. Now in Boxing tune up fights are something that has always existed.
In 1982 after Roberto Duran fought Wilfred Benitez and lost a tough fight he then had a confidence building fight against a fighter named Kirkland Laing. Kirkland Laing was 23-3-1, he would go on to beat Duran in the upset of the year. Laing would then lose his next fight. In his career he would never win a world title but he still had that one night where he bested Duran.
In 1982 Marvin Hagler faced 22-2 Caveman Lee. Caveman Lee was easy work and was KOed in 1. Caveman Lee "earned" his shot at Hagler by beating 2-8-0 Reyes Escalera. BTW this was for the WBC Middleweight title.
In 1982 after a tough fight with Tommy Hearns, Ray Leonard faced 28-3-1 Bruce Finch with Leonards WBA and WBC titles on the line. Finch earned this fight by beating 0-1-0 Sonny Perez. LOL, you cant make this **** up. Finch obviously lost and would also lose his next 4 fights.
Danny Garcia is 26 years old and coming off of 2 tough fights.... he deserves a tune up... do I like this fight with Rod Salka? Hell no, but its not like its on PPV and its not even a title fight. its free, get over it.
I am not defending this fight. Im merely stating that this is something that happens and will continue to happen in boxing. Rod Salka is unworthy, yes I get it. But this fight is not much worse than the comparisons i gave. Truth is I could have done the comparison with fighters of today. I chose these legends because I thought it would make my point a bit easier. Its a **** fight, but every good or great fighter has **** fights on their resume. Maybe Salka will surprise people like Herrera did. My problem is really with the "what have you done for me lately?" attitude that boxing fans have. Fans said Garcia would duck Matthysse, he fights him... they say Herreras a **** fight (I knew how good Herrera could be, hes like a mini Carlos Molina) Herrera gives Danny all he could handle... now after two seriously tough outings hes taking an easy fight, easier than he should... but the truth is Danny doesnt make his own fights... matchmakers make the fights... im giving him a pass here because im sure his next fight will be against Peterson... you can all start typing your "PEDerson got KOed by Lucas" comments now.... the truth is styles make fights and Peterson is an even better inside fighter than Herrera and unless Danny gets an inside game hes going to have a lot of trouble with Lamont as well. I just cant stand some of you "FANS" who really dont understand the sport.

He shouldn't have gone for this guy for a busy fight. He literally could have fought any journeyman junior welterweight and it would have been better than this.
I'm not going to pretend to know how often Hagler and Leonard were fighting at the time of those fights, but fighters in general fought a lot more often then, so fights like those were a given. Kind of how Golovkin fighting 4 times a year brings those less than stellar names into the mix.
The problem, more than anything else, is that Haymon went to the bottom of the lightweight division for this fight. Not the bottom of junior welterweight or even the top or middle of lightweight, he went to the bottom of lightweight.
first of all this garbage danny is in is not comparable to anything you brought up.
and even if it happened to any top fighter before that doesn't mean it's ok for any top fighter now to do the same.
a **** fight is a **** fight...there's no defending that unless you're a stupid fanboy.
Ask yourself who wants to see this fight? Then ask yourself why am I defending it?
A tune up fight is when your career has derailed in some fashion, not when you're at the top of your game.
This is not defendable.
And for conversation sake, "let's just say greater fighter A did it," that doesn't mean it's okay.
Ring Ratings at JWW are as follows
1. Lucas Matthysse (Garcia has already fought and beaten him)
2. Lamont Peterson (this is obviously the fight GBP is building)
3. Chris Algeiri (scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao)
4. Ruslan Provodnikov (fights on HBO)
5. Mike Alvarado (fights on HBO)
6. Zab Judah (already beaten by Garcia)
7. Adrien Broner (surprised hes even on the list)
8. Jesse Vargas (fights on HBO)
9. Victor Postol (fights on HBO)
10. Khabib (last fought on HBO)
difficult to make a lot of these fights... I do expect to see Garcia-Peterson next. Garcia needs to move up to welterweight after Peterson because there really isnt much else for Garcia in his division.
if only you had something of substance to say... no one is saying this is a good fight. Im saying tune up fights and confidence building fights are a part of boxing. Try staying on topic.
No defense for him.
Harrera was selected to be a tune up for something big. He got schooled. Now he is taking another projected tuneup. You are the Champ, you spend almost 1 calender year taking on 2 tuneups. One of which wasnt even accepted a a title defense by the title. Al this in a jam packed division and with formidible competition calling you out.
Nah, dude, this is DISGRACEFUL.
He's fighting a supreme tomato can, with feather fists, from TWO weight divisions below.
There's fighting soft touches, tomato cans and then there's what Garcia is doing. Anyone who watches this is a sucker, and is actually doing boxing a diservice. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would want to watch this.
