After that pathetic performance by AJ, perhaps it’s Tommy Fury he should be fighting next
People are far less interested in this matchup after this fight. Seems like karma
You forgot about Justis Huni - the WBO Global champion
the standard WBO world champion is only champion of the world - as in all countries and continents
the global champion is champion of all countries, continents, all the rivers and seas, random islands and natural structures, the molten core, satellites and the gravitational pull of the globe itself
theres levels to this game
Crazy that they’d make this a PPV fight in the US, was definitely a British event
A lot of the lower tier domestic US PPVs are coming over to the UK as PPV now also - Tank vs Roach for example.
getting worse
Kell Brook for all the titles
How does Khan deserve a shot at all?
Thurman i'm ok with, he's beaten more than a recently beaten Alexander, at least
I'd love Mayweather-Bradley, but it won't happen
gomez, IIRC, was the lineal champion
i know that the WBA / WBC had fractured the world championship belt by the 70's, but i'm pretty sure that gomez established legitimate lineage and was ring mag champion when he beat the korean bloke for the 122 lb title.
golovkin is an alphabet soup champion. he's the best fighter at 160 according to anybody with a working set of eyeballs, but he's not the legit champ.
the legit champ is miguel cotto. he beat martinez. martinez beat pavlik. pavlik beat taylor. taylor beat hopkins. you can't get a more lineal champion than bernard hopkins at MW. dude was the definition of lineage, which he established when he boxed off for a vacant lineage against tito trinidad in '01.
Yeah this post accurately deals with the original post. Comparing the whole recognised championship to Golovkin's single belt is a bit weird. But 'title defences' barely mean anything, and hardly did back then (take Joe Louis for example) unless those defences meant something themselves.
As a HUGE tangent though, I find the idea of championship inherently flawed. The idea that one, as a (lineal) champion, is better (or even more comparable to past fighters) than a guy who is practically the consensus best of the division, just because he is the (lineal) champion seems absurd to me.
Its a flawed system, as championships can never really follow consensus indefinitely. The lineal system is far better than the ABC titles, as it follows consensus much more often, but I don't believe it should be taken at face value alone as it often fails too. GGG/Cotto, Huck/Hernandez are prime examples, but even ones such as Gonzales/Estrada provoke some discussion.
MAJOR websites have rescored the fight and have declared Pacquiao the winner. I have no doubt that different judges would have given Pac the W as well.
Pacquiao lost, get over it
If Jinkee, Manny's mom, and Buboy judged the fight, with every person in the Philippines holding a gun filled with bullets laced with AIDS, the mumps, the plague and Ebola at their heads, Manny would still lose the fight on the cards.
Mayweather won, get over it
oh damn I dunno why I typed that. Meant to say Inoue.
Yeah, the Amnat v Roman fight could be sold a number of ways plus, imo, they may be the two best flys on the planet.
Yeah i think you may be underestimating Amnat here
He could quite well pull off the upset, he's established himself as a very formidable Flyweight titleholder
Not underestimating him at all, I'm saying they are the two best guys out there, so why not make this happen? Win or lose, the Inoue fight would still be big, especially if Roman got a rematch and won.
Personally I think it's 60-40 in Roman's favour against Amnat.
I meant to quote your other post where it seemed to assume a Gonzales victory, though obviously I was wrong to think that
I agree with you 100%
Does anyone know Roman's deal with Teiken and HBO? Teiken and HBO working together seems crazy to me, how global the sport really has become
Mayweather-Cotto is an awful fight
Only hardcore mayweather fans want to see it because they place value in the lineal title that only has face value alone
Its practically a Pacquiao rematch or nothing, theres just nothing left for the both of them. Matthysse and Khan? Lol
IYO will HBO mace this fight seeing as how they just invested in Gonzalez?
I'm not sure, I think they are testing the waters with him right now, it's rare to see HBO back such a lower weight fighter
It would demand a sizeable purse, Gonzales had a pretty tough fight the first time around, and will do so again.
Pretty sure a Gonzales-Ruenroeng fight could happen (barring WBC/IBF negotiations). They could easily hype Amnats win over Shiming, alongside Gonzales who KO'd his way to the (relative) spotlight
What constitutes a 'casual fan'?
Theres so many posters here who only post about Mayweather/Pacquiao, or from that, Arum/HBO - Haymon/PBC and anything indirectly related in that manner.
Nothing else. It's sad now that a lot of them now have strange self righteousness over the other fanboy squad, as if their fanboy ways were somehow vindicated.
Yet i'm supposed to believe these are 'hardcore fans'?
I just don't go into most threads, you already know who the posters you'll find are and what their responses to that thread will be.

With those 3 on your list (1 inactive, two had rather limited resumes right now), you should consider putting Uchiyama on your list somewhere. The guys been at the top of his division for around 5 years now, and has already KO'd the guy below him. Him being unknown doesn't take away from his achievements in the ring (You have Gonzales on there too, how come?).
Takashi would have ripped him a new one at 130, a smart move to move up with haste.
at 147 he was by far the weakest titleholder
At 135 he was ranked no.1 though, you have to give him credit there.
Uchiyamas been one of my favs for a while now and I always wanted for him to have a big payday against a recognisable name. He has some solid fighters on his resume and there was a time when Mikey was being mentioned but I think that's not going to happen now.
Not to mention the injuries and the inactivity, fun fighter who sadly will not be remembered for anything more than that.
You're probably right, he won't be remembered as he should be
Being the outright champion at 130 (if he beats Miura again) and retiring undefeated and as a genuine champion is still a feat in itself though
Uchiyama is such a bad ass. I'd probably take him over Miura, but Miura has improved since then and he is younger.
My friend (from Japan) is a big fan of Uchiyama, but still picks Miura
Whether thats a rational choice i'm not so sure but its an intriguing matchup. I wasn't convinced until Miura completely wiped out Dib with one punch and looked in great shape, despite the opponent.
