Thé only way Arum makes any of those fights is if Bud is loud enough
Crawford , if he really wants it , would have to force Arum’s hand by making noise
I think Bud is realizing he needs a name on his resume to propel him
you're so right. If Crawford was interested in doing bigger fights he would have demanded a Pacquiao fight to propel his career. But I don't think Bud wants big fights. To be honest, I don't think Crawford believes in his heart that he can beat Manny Pacquiao that's why he never calls out Pacquiao. Crawford should have been looking to settle that Top Rank issue with Manny that was screwed up by Bob Arum. That'd be a heck of a fight, if Crawford wants it.
Floyd, for all the wrong reasons.
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are two completely different personalities.
Floyd does things to keep himself in the news.
Manny on the other hand is low key.
Obviously, it would be more difficult to forget Floyd because he lives for the news. He's still trying to get people to like him.
You can't say the same about Pacquiao who lives to help his fellow men, which is boring.
The best example I can give is pretty much like who will get to a given destination first, a guy who is in a hurry and running or a one who is not in a hurry and is walking.
This example is as corny as the question in the thread.
Holyfield is hardly the reference you need 'cause he could eat punches from anyone. As a matter of fact sometimes it seems like Holyfield just liked to get hit. He was actually out-jabbing Bowe from the outside but preferred to go inside and rumble with him, punch for punch. There are very few chins stronger than Holyfield.
Both fought in vastly 2 different eras so the comparison doesn't really make any sense. Duran might have a greater win against Leonard than any of Floyd's opponents but Floyd fought and easily dominated a lot more champions and top level guys over a longer period of time at the top of the P4P list than Duran.
Plus when Duran fought there was no drug testing in boxing and fighters used to be roided out of their damn minds in the 70s and 80s, but when Floyd fought he probably took advantage of the advancements of trainingd and nutrition, both have their cases and both were great, Floyd was the absolute greatest of his era, Duran is one of the all time greats, let's just leave it at that.
There's documented evidence that Floyd was on PEDs.
fights are won and lost in the ring...not on paper
Leonad beat Hagler and Hearns; Hagler and Hearns beat Duran; guess who beat Leonard?
On paper, Floyd Mayweather beats every boxer that ever lived. This takes us back to the title: fights are won and lost in the ring...not on paper
How pathetic of FM to include Manny's IRS issues as a promo to himself.
I don't think Floyd realizes that by knocking his dad and uncle Roger for giving their views about Broner and his latest loss to Maidaina, he's actually doing the same thing to them.
Why didn't he just say "..no comment..me, my dad and my uncle are three different people and are entitled to our own point of views.." Instead, he went on to quote all these inferior boxing win/loss records and title achievements as a premise for why Floyd Sr. and Roger should keep their mouths shut.
As the interview got longer, it got worse.
I don't know how Pacman's issues with the IRS could come out of the original question. Surely he's using Manny as a springboard. It's also called 'kicking a man when he's down'..especially a fellow boxer. Also, by saying Manny is using his present dilemma as a reason to pursue the fight, clearly, he's only showing the fans a whole new breed of excuses he's fabricating to protect his gracious "0"...which now more look like "45 wins-0 risk".
It's the first time I've ever seen a boxer put down a fellow boxer so far in the distance of potentially the greatest showdown he'll ever be involved in both financially and legacy wise. He even tries to woo the public into believing that his opponent is irrelevant by discrediting all his opponent achievements and he makes accusations based on unproven data to avoid fighting him.
I guess all this becomes easier to expedite due to the hefty contract that was given FM. He doesn't need the money...but, the fans need the fight. What's more important?
It's obvious, Pacquiao is in his Floyd's head and it's going to haunt him even when they finally get in the ring.
I know the fight will happen. If the boxing fraternity let this fight slip away then it's a failure for all..mostly Showtime, HBO, Top Rank, GBP. This is what you call injustice. The fan is your meal ticket and they're not getting their money's worth..that's cheating and the fans are hurting..I am! History will have the last say.
Floyd Mayweather jr. could say what he likes about Manny Pac; if this fight doesn't happen his legacy would take a beating and his avoidance of Manny would be looked upon as the most blatant duck in the history of the sport by arguably the biggest coward. The more he uses the term "great" or any superlative of it to describe himself, is the more ironic and hilarious it sounds.
I truly don't know where he's going with the whole patriotic reference to himself as "American" and how much he loves his country and care about the American people and all this crap; but it surely reminds of one of his earlier excuses to avoid fighting Pacman when he said '..how could Americans allow this Filipino guy to come to this country, make all this money and take it out..' or words to the effect.
It sounded like a joke to me then and his patriotic rant in this interview sounds the same. I remember the first time he said it, I was thinking, 'does this this guy have a clue of how immigration works?....for every country has immigrants in other countries doing the same..more so, America.
Floyd owes me, a black man, two things 1. fight Manny Pacquiao. 2. Find a way to get more intelligent and put more depth in his interviews. Even Mike Tyson is more quotable than Floyd Mayweather jr.
Floyd's bitterness and ****iness gets in the way of his intelligence. Tyson's humility and honesty brings out the best in him.
I honestly think he will lose the fight with Pacman. I actually wants him to lose so he will come off that false high he's on and realize that boxing greatness is not measured by a win/loss record.
A perfect record only puts into question 'who was the competion' and 'how much you extended yourself'...not the fact that you were perfectly good.
The man offered Manny the fight twice and was turned down twice. So ya I'm sure Floyd is getting a little kick out of Mannys situation. Especially the 09 offer. Who in their right mind turns down a 50/50 split with FLOYD MAYWEATHER to fight Joshua Clottey? Then he turns down 40 mil guarunteed, at a time when nobody had ever gotten that high of a guaruntee before. Now only 4 years later Manny is broke as a joke. Aint life grand?
you slightly sound like a boxing fan. You're a Mayweather fan not a boxing fan. The type that would help Floyd find new excuses. That's why Floyd and his fans will keep regurgitating the 50/50 offer, the 40 million offer etc...when Floyd said himself he would never do business with Bob Arum. Why make these offers when you won't do business with Bob. My guess is, only the true boxing fan sees the flaws in those ridiculous offers. They were smoke screens to mask the true reason Floyd will not fight. He's afraid of Manny.
It's strange how 90% of people believe Floyd will beat Manny or even school him if they ever fight. But, you know what's the irony of that statistic? Floyd is part of the 10% who believes otherwise.
Winky was so boring..it ain't funny
I have just watched 7 of Winkys fights the past few days and his skill was crazy. That shell defense was almost impenetrable in his prime. The guy held the great Tito Trinidad to 54 punches landed and 10% through an entire fight that is so crazy that I wouldntve believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. This had me thinking of who the greatest 154 of all time is. This weight wasn't around until 2nd half of the 20th century so the list of fighters isn't that long. The only guy Id have to put in front of him would have to be Tommy Hearns. But Hearns wasn't at 154 all his career like Winky ( Winky didn't move to 160 until 2005 and that's about the time he took long lay offs). I was just curious what u guys thought about this topic.
Winky, to me, was not a great boxer. He was a great defender because that's all he did. He comes out of his shell like a turtle, fires one jab and goes right back in for the better part of each round. Against Tito, you can see he was afraid of Trinidad's power that's why he covered up so much. The truth is Tito is not a defense-first fighter; so he is not hard to hit. Winky was afraid to engage 'cause Tito would have knocked him out. I suspect he doesn't even have a good chin. It's hard to tell because he's always in defensive mode. Against Bhop, he clearly exhibited his lack of boxing skills. His plan was to fight more and take more risks to entertain but that night he show me what a lousy boxer he was. Bhop outboxed him. He looked totally uncomfortable in offensive mode. He could barely capitalize on Bhop's mistakes.
Winky Wright depends on the skill of his opponent to carry a fight. When his opponent takes a break from hitting his defensive shell he pops out of it and scores with a few jabs. In the end it will always be a UD for him...never a knockout or an exciting win.
Winky frustrates boxers with his style that's why he hardly gets fights. He has the perfect style for Paul Williams who throws a million punches per round. With PW, Winky gets hit constantly whether he's covering up or coming out. PW's volume gets him. He just had no answer for PW 'cause he's a lousy boxer.

I rather watch Floyd only because he's less boring. I'm just amazed how fighters who are in the hit business, want to be called great and demand so much money are so afraid of getting hit..even by guys who present no danger of beating them. A good defence only means that you should not be getting hit every time your opponent throws a punch. However, you should be prepared to take a good punch every so often, if only to get inside and finish a sub-standard foe or even as a means of strategy against better fighters. That's the only way you get to showcase you true mettle as a great champion and give the public a better and memorable fight for their money. That's what fans remember when boxers retire. That's why I have a hard time appreciating fighters like Bhop, SOG, PBF, RIGO..'cause they take no risks and they are contented to UD themselves in the record books and HOF...but one place they lose out is in the minds of true boxing fans.
I will believe it when I see it Floyd.
Floyd has given the most justification I have ever heard from a fighter as to not fight another fighter.
well said!!!
Although I first heard this quote from Glen Johnson, I understand it was previously said by Mike Tyson. I don't know it he is the original though but I like it anyways:
"Everyone has a game plan until they get hit"
The beat down is also a beat down to the confidence and everything that stems from the pugilistic beat down including the aftermath makes up the overall make up of the beat down lol
well said!!!
When JMM nearly killed Pac n' PEDs Dec. 2012.
How humiliating was that? Pac took it with a smile. Let's see how PBF will take his when he gets it on May 2nd. I'm positive without a doubt, it's going to happen
I was a big fan of PBF
Until he and his family started relentlessly blaspheming Pacquiao's name in the news as a PEDs user, as a smoke screen for his PEDs usage.
I couldn't understand how a boxer could do that to his most lucrative dancing partner until the real facts came out that he was just masking his own steroid use.
It also showed me that PBF's was willing to pass up $300 million rather than risk putting his unbeaten record on the line in a a fight than he wasn't quite sure he could win.
The sad thing is, he won the money by cheating with PEDs, and the nod from the judges in an unconvincingly win with fewer clean shots landing than Pacquiao.
I still look forward to the day when the truth be told about PBF's PEDs usage.
A next reason why it's hard for me to ever like Floyd again is the way he boast about his money. Most sports personalities make the news for their charity work and their foundation activities.
Floyd's news is all about how much money he gambled away, gave to prostitues, cars or jewelry he bought and all these trivial stuff.
A next thing is, he exhibits such low intelligence when interviewed. Floyd says nothing that is quotable; he keeps saying the same thing over and over in a very unintelligent way; a clear sign of a phony.
I'm a big sports fanatic and I love to hear interviews by champions and winners, even in defeat. What comes out of their mouth straddles on honesty and sincerity. That's why I like to quote them. Even Mike Tyson.
PBF is not my type of guy. I'm sorry. I'm also a black man.
I agree, post of the century.
I laugh when people say "Arum's loose lips" are hampering the fight from happening. What is this, a sensitive mission to rescue hostages in a far-flung area? LOL. This is Sports, not effing Palestinian/Israeli negotiations.
Anyone in the negotiating table could say whatever the hell they want and the fight would still happen if Mayweather would just behave like a normal human being.
Who tf cares what Arum says in public? What a mess this TBE guy did to this Sport. I've never seen anything like it in all my life.
This post made me laugh cause it makes so much sense. I can't even think about adding to it. It is so complete
I think you're wrong
Remember when Pacquiao said he'd fight mayweather for free, then a week later said 40 million wasn't enough? Was that lip service or nah?
The free offer from Pac came years after the $40 million offer from Floyd. Pac offered to fight free 'cause Floyd was saying Pac just want to fight to pay off his tax problems; or something to that effect. Get your facts straight before yapping.
so why don't you do a run down of Floyd Mayweather's PED usage like the one you did on Manny. Don't forget Floyd's PEDs usage was well documented and covered up. What about the cheating he was caught doing for the Manny's fight. It's surprising how much you guys try to diminish Manny's accomplishments in the ring and praise a guy as TBE who just nuked his way to hundreds of millions under the guise that he cared about the fans when it's obvious he was all about safety and money, PBF.
I also agree
Man you can't be serious. This man is one of the best to ever promote fights. You mean to tell me Arum talking will stop you from fighting and making 120M? Keep it 100, if Floyd really wanted this fight to happen, we would be getting ready to watch a rubber match. Floyd talk more ish than anyone but Arum calls him out and that may stop the fight. Man gtfoh with that bs. Arum sees it like millions of ppl sees it! After all these years, it seems like May has been afraid to fight Manny. You know the "midget" "he'll beat with ease". Well beat him with ease and get your 120M. The man who really loves money is going to let Arum words stop him from making 120M. Where I come from, we call cowards out. This is no hate... May is a "rich coward" with a lot of talent but won't fight the BEST man in their era. It's a d@mn shame how some of you fans are blind to the fact that this man doesn't want to fight Manny. We've heard plenty of excuses and roadblocks from May. theres plenty of footage of him making his excuses. Keep it 100 and call like you really see it. Its been a duck since Dec 2009. I'm not going to get into all the blood test dude used to get out of the fight. The fake 2yr retirement to avoid tough fights and the bs fight with JMM. Just call it like it is, May don't want it. He's being forced into this fight because Showtime been losing money and most important, many of his fans and fans period tired of him ducking Manny. Period.
Well said bro!
I said he'd pick Thurman all along, because if you look through his resume he always picks fighters coming off losses and bad performances recently. That's what Pac does.
Does that also mean Timothy Bradley and Mayweather?
well said Curt!!I think you're right about that. I feel for Manny in that sense. He could have made way more money if he was an American with that talent and likability. Also, if he was American, he would have been more hip to political correctness and not made the Christian based comment on gay people. He also would have been able to put a better perspective on the tenets of Christianity. That's why I never hold it against him. He is just a product of 3rd world upbringings.
You may be black but you don't know jack about the Bible. It's also pretty insulting to say that all blacks are brainwashed. You should check yourself.
What you're saying is exactly what I mean. I imagine you are black; that's why you're hurt...'cause I'm insulting your "black intelligence". I did check myself. 90% of black people would be most hurt with what I say.
I did check myself and I saw our race at the bottom of the intelligence spectrum. We barely know how to bring up our own kids so we put them in the hands of the pastors of the church, who, instead of giving them leadership courses or other career options, give them bible classes and drive them to stupidity with FEAR and GUILT. The GUILT of original sin and the FEAR of losing heaven and going to hell
Oh! I forgot to mention, these pastors today are intelligent black people who drive expensive cars and live in big houses that they've earned off the backs of poor low-intelligent black people who've placed their trust in the hands of the pastors.

Chavez speaks simple conversational English, although not enough to do a press conference in English.
Plus I imagine that Floyd being around many hispanics in boxing throughout his life has picked up some Spanish.
I can't imagine how chavez speaking his "...simple conversational English..." and Floyd speaking the Spanish that he picked up from being around "...hispanics in boxing throughout his life..." will make for an interesting conversation. They going to have to speak the same language or it may sound like the workmen in the fabled "Tower of Babel"
I guess anyone who can't stand Mayweather is either a hater (a fan) or jealous (ex boxer) The truth is, most boastful people are not popularly liked. The difference with PBF is that he is widely looked upon as a ducker who cherry picked his way to big money and short changed the fans like me. I was a die hard PBF fan. I had no choice but to completely turn away from him 'cause his integrity is low. I do see him as a coward and very disrespectful once he knows he can walk all over you. He is hushed now for this fight 'cause he knows he's in with a guy who would most likely beat his ass. He also does not have the grit of a true warrior. We all judge each other whether it's right or it's wrong, we still do it. When you say the old boxers are jealous or anything else, you're judging.
Ali was not too liked because of his boasting. The difference is he took on every meaningful heavyweight in his day. Could you say the same about PBF? I could go on all day saying things that has made me turn against PBF but I don't like digging that **** up. All I can say in one sentence is: His integrity is low, he is highly insecured and he is highly overrated. Manny is going to beat him. All the great boxers favor PBF to win 'cause his ring intelligence is better than Manny. I'll tell you this: they're all wrong. Manny is highly underrated in this fight. He's going to expose Floyd huge. Maidana exposed Floyd; the problem is no one saw it. I saw it big time. Also this idea that Manny walks around as some saint and Mayweather is the villain is nonsense. This guy Pacquiao is not any different than Mayweather. Both are imperfect human beings who have made mistakes. Manny Pacquiao may be well liked in the sport. But I think this perception that he's a walking saint is nonsense.
Making statements like " God will bring me the victory " just shows a true lack of understanding. Wearing rosary beads around your neck and making a cross sign on your chest don't count for anything. And though he hasn't had many legal issues, he's definitely had some character issues that came out.
We're always quick to judge. Mayweather this, Mayweather did this, etc. I don't worship the ground the guy walks on. But I'm not going to criticize the guy because he made mistakes or he's created some bad guy image. The same people who criticize the guy proclaim they walk a higher path but make dumb decisions as well.
I do believe many of the greats are jealous of the success of Mayweather. Maybe it's not necessarily the success but the fact that he proclaims he's the TBE. Maybe they take offense to that. Maybe they think it's disrespectful. But it's his opinion and opinions of others. He is one of the all time greats though like it or not. But I think his ****y attitude causes other greats to dislike him and root against him. More fuel for the fire.
Honestly after floyds last domination of the only guy who had a chance does it really matter who he fights!!!!!!!
He prooved there is nobody around his weight meaning 1 division up an 1 division down how it should be that can even come close cottos lost 2 of 3 canelo dont want no part of a rematch right now an pac is gettin slept by a guy floyd beat easy who else bradley.......ya ok.....prov.....danny.......come on now haters just realize hes the best an theres nothing or noone who can change that period!!!!!!!!
TMT!!!!!
He ain't prove nothing. Why do you think Floyd and his entourage makes so much demands of Manny? Cause they're afraid of him. The casual fans saw the knockout but PBF, TMT and the hardcore fans took note of Marquez's face after the fight.
didnt read the article or any replies so forgive me if im redundant...
but hes on the verge of it....years of being misled by arum and koncz and being too generous to too many people...has caught up to
manny is the type of guy bob loves....nice but dumb...a yes man....manny saw checks he never dreamed of that bob put in front of him and never asked the real questions...the hard questions...just "keep em comin"...i feel bad for manny...nice guy...great fighter...just a bit naive....
its sort of a catch 22...on one hand bob did right by him in many ways....but also bob didnt.....i guess thats the nature of the business though..
Well said Curt!!!
I really feel for Manny. He could have made way more money with that kind of talent and likability. Also, if he was an American he would be more hip to political correctness and would not have made the comment about gay people. He would have been able to put a better perspective on the tenets of Christianity. That's why I never truly held it against him. He is just a product of 3rd world upbringings: faithful and obedient and be thankful for small mercies.
