On the one hand Floyd doesn't hug, he'll use his elbow but at least he isn't as dirty. I think they average the same amount of punches thrown, maybe Ward throws more and he puts combinations together more often than Floyd and for a fighter in a higher weight division that's a bit more impressive. Otherwise there's little that separates them. When Ward gets aggressive he is more entertaining in my opinion and he doesn't move around nearly as much, but his dirty tactics negate that. So who would you rather watch?

I rather watch Floyd only because he's less boring. I'm just amazed how fighters who are in the hit business, want to be called great and demand so much money are so afraid of getting hit..even by guys who present no danger of beating them. A good defence only means that you should not be getting hit every time your opponent throws a punch. However, you should be prepared to take a good punch every so often, if only to get inside and finish a sub-standard foe or even as a means of strategy against better fighters. That's the only way you get to showcase you true mettle as a great champion and give the public a better and memorable fight for their money. That's what fans remember when boxers retire. That's why I have a hard time appreciating fighters like Bhop, SOG, PBF, RIGO..'cause they take no risks and they are contented to UD themselves in the record books and HOF...but one place they lose out is in the minds of true boxing fans.
I agree with many of the sentiments in this thread. Ward is hard to watch, he has a great boxing IQ but his style is not aesthetically pleasing at all. The guy clinches way too much. He basically hits you then hugs you to prevent being countered.
I'd much rather watch Floyd fight. He uses head and foot movement along with the shoulder roll to avoid getting hit. His style is much more pleasing to the eye.
Let's put it this way, after Floyd fought Canelo 90 % of the people in the fight party I was at started doing the shoulder roll and trying to dodge punches without getting touched. People were having side conversations by the 6th round yesterday.
they weren't doing the shoulder jump or clamping each others arms after watching ward "fight"? they must not be true boxing fans.

I enjoy both equally. I was really entertained by wards fight last night I know a lot of people on here disagree and complained about the holding but it was a good interesting fight IMO
I enjoy Mayweather fights more based purely on the buzz and excitement he generates. He gets the casual fans excited, and I get hyped cause for one or two days a year I get to show my friends the splendor of boxing. I would never invite them to a Ward fight for obvious reasons.
Ward has the most "SOG" awful (pun intended) style in all of boxing! That's why he can't draw flies to a pile of s h it! I can't stand either fighter but I would rather watch Mayweather anyday over The Hugger, Headbutter, I don't fight away from my home, Ward! This guy is the worst champion in the history of the Super Middleweight division! It look like a wrestling match at times last night, not too mention that the ref sucked a s s with the ridiculous 2 pt deduction that changed nothing in the way the were fighting. Rodriguez was not a challenge at all to Ward, started strong and fizzled by the 3rd round. Ward needs to fight one of the other champs outside of California, especially Oakland! Or he needs to move up to 175 and see how fares there, I bet he won't be undefeated for long if he does which is why he keeps avoiding the move up!
